[RELz] Unique Finery Replacer

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 11:19 pm

Yeah. I took a screenshot of the item in Nifskope, then cropped it in Paintbucket. Then I transferred the .bmp to my laptop, ran it through the photoshop procedure, and used that nVidia plugin (for photoshop) to make the .dds. For the robes, I had to actually open up the CS and dress up an NPC in the render window. If I did it in Nifskope, the arms would be sticking out straight. Then I had to remove the NCP head, hands, and feet, do a little strategic touch-up in photoshop, and made the icon.

It all sounds complex to me. I'm not new to the CS, but I've never tried anything with other programs, which, um, probably limited me alot. But I gotta learn eventually. Stuff like this is one of my hobbies at this point.

EDIT: I need some tutorials on this; and I mean the whole process (lol). Does anybody know of any?

Anteres recently released a tutorial for how to create icons in GIMP (a free image editing program). The process is different from what I usually do, but that's okay. I should really learn how to navigate GIMP's GUI one of these days...

NIFSkope has an entire wiki! :o Lots of tutorials there. I sort of poked around and learned by trial and error and asking questions on the forums. :P I know very little about NifSkope; just enough for how to change textures, edit the UV, and edit the material properties. Oh, and flipping meshes (which I only did for making left and right gauntlets/pauldrons).

Issue with the Azura Ring mesh has been fixed. Thanks to R.D. for a detailed and useful bug report. Thanks to swrdphantom for fixing the ring mesh. :)

Added info about the ring textures in the Morrowind.bsa (as in, Bethesda put in the wrong textures) and where to get the correct textures.

So, I started tinkering again.

http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/amulet_agustas.jpg
http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/amulet_gemfeeding.jpg - thought a soul gem was appropriate, given the Soul Trap enchantment
http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/amulet_sotha.jpg - Sotha = Sotha Sil?

Let me know if you like 'em, dislike any of them, or have any suggestions.

How have you set up the amulet of gemfeeding? It looks good :)

I learned a new trick in Nifskope, about copying and pasting branches. I've been experimenting with it a bit with some other items, and I thought about trying to do it with other things, like amulets. So, I copied the Grand Soulgem's branches and pasted them into a .nif of an amulet (amulet of unity). After moving them around, and some other tweaks, I got everything to look good. I hope it it is the right size in-game, because I have no idea how to change the size of items in Nifskope.

erm, was that your question, or have I misinterpreted it?

the size of items in Nifskope.

right click the NiTriShape you want to modify
then Transform->Edit and change the scale value
or
Transform->Scale Vertices, if you want to resize just the x, y or z axis.

I know that part. The part that leaves me somewhat baffled is... well, here's an example. I can take a skull and paste it into the nif of the wooden stave, and the skull looks the right size in proportion to the staff. I can then paste the same skull over into a nif with a bit of jewelry (say, and amulet chain, where I've removed the pendant) and the skull doesn't look ginormous. But I know, in game, that the skull should be way bigger than that jewelry chain... but it isn't. Also, I don't know how big a mesh is going to be until I open it up in-game. I totally didn't know the heartfire belt was huge until I tried looking at it in-game.

They all look great, but the amulet of gemfeeding looks particularly lovely. Are we looking at a possible expansion?

:o Would I be so cruel as to post screenshots and never release the models?

(the answer is "no")

Yup, I want to track down the other clothing items I didn't get to in the first release. I might have to reuse some models, but with my new copy-paste skill, I might be able to successfully mix-and-match pendants, chains, and such.

I actually want to change the Necromancer amulet - I mean, the skull is okay and all, but it doesn't really feel evil, you know? I'll see what I can come up with, I've been having some success with the skull model lately for a skull-topped staff.

For Agustas' amulet, I tried to make it kinda Nordic, since that's what old Agustas was (a Nord). I dunno if it looks appropriate, what does everyone think? *scratches chin* Hrm, I'll root around the Bloodmoon textures, see if I can't get something that doesn't look like I obviously cut-and-pasted a shield onto a necklace chain.

I'm excited to see an expansion for this. awesome!

Might I make two requests....
The http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o90/plutocruel/MGEScreenshot1.jpg?t=1249756757 are very ugly.
So are http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o90/plutocruel/MGEScreenshot2.jpg?t=1249756756

I think these Quest/unique items could use an update :)

Whoops, sorry it took me so long to reply, I need to keep track of my topics more often. >.<

The big stumbling block I have with gloves is the UV map... I just can't get the fingers to look good on other textures. :( My hope is that texture replacers will be able to fix that. There's not much I can do about the meshes. Are there any BB glove/gauntlet meshes for the hand? Because gloves and gauntlets do look down-right hideous with vanilla meshes. :yuck: My wish would be a BB-hand based glove mesh with the finger UV maps split up so that I'd have four textures, one for each finger, rather than all four fingers connected as one big UV on one texture.

There's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1640, but you probably already saw them. Could these gloves be altered?
I thought Korana had some different gloves, too. Maybe?

I didn't know about that mesh pack, no. Hmm, the long gloves are, um, well, kind of long. If there was a way to shorten them to the types of lengths you see with the vanilla meshes, that'd be ideal. Unfortunately, I don't know how to use Blender, and I'd probably horribly mess something up if I tried. >.<

I can't get to ElricM lately, for fear of malware. :( I'll try poking around on ES Search later today, see if I can find anything on the other websites.

Made some breakthroughs recently. Some new items, but also I'm improving ones I've already done. Let me know if you like the new versions compared to the older versions:

Was V1 of that shaped more like the shrines (like a block)? I'm not sure if I remember the original right.

First version used a mesh that was shaped like a coffin. I thought that was a bit silly, so I plucked the sotha sil pendant off the Almsivi amulet and made it its own necklace/amulet thing.

I'm not quite thrilled with about the look of the band on the Sanguine ring; looks just a bit... chunky around the gem, and I'm not sure I like the stone look of the band. Everything else looks stunning though. The necromancer's amulet is great, and Foe Grinder is exquisite. Seriously, I told my husband I wanted a real version of that for Christmas.

Looking good overall! :goodjob:
