Unique RP idea

Post » Sun Jul 11, 2010 2:52 pm

Well I just came up with an idea for an RP that I have never seen done before, the idea is that the players are members of a mercenary group, and they travel around random places doing whatever. There is a primary thread which is the HQ, the members RP in it and the characters go on about their lives and whatnot in the HQ, and the members cast a vote on where they should go next(IRL).

When the vote is done, the in-RP characters have a meeting and their intel guy finds for example a distress message from the location voted, and they go in to help for the right price. Then, another thread is opened in which we actually travel there. It would be titled something like:

The in: The Empy City.

Then after that thread is through, we go back to the primary thread for debriefing and such. It's basically the same characters in new stories. What do you guys think of it?

I think the structure of finding where the group is going to go is unique and innovateive and you should be applauded for it (clap clap), however the whole mercenary idea has been done to death so you would have to work really hard to make your groups actual activites unique.

Im not saying you're not up to the task btw.

EDIT: I keep reading replies wrong..

Anyway, I KNOW the idea has been done to death, but this is an ode to my banned account's masterpiece, which was a mercenary group. Once I post my character's sheet, the few who remember it will know who I am and what I'm talking about.

Interesting... Very interesting, and original, mercenaries has been done to death but it can be worked in perfectly... Run with it if you want to, I'd be up to having a shot at it.

Only if I'm allowed to use Rachael and maybe possible actually be able to finish an RP with her without everyone else bailing out.

It's an interesting idea... at least the whole way of doing it, is unique, but like it's already been said the Mercenary scene has been done too many times. I still think you should keep with it though, the entire thing I mean.

Also, just to get this straight. What your saying, is that you would post TWO threads. One where the players (out of character) vote about what should be done next, while the other thread (in character) would have the actual RP and game? Interesting, but the only problem is you can have only ONE threat open for one particular RP or story. So you might come into some complications via the mods about that, and so you might want to maybe some how incorporate the two together.

Thats my two cents, I say go for it, but you'll have to work on the two threads thing. You will get some friction for having the two.

I have an idea! Why not have the Thread where we vote for what happens and in the HQ closed when we aren't in it; when we're doing the other Thread? Then, when we're done with that one, we close that Thread and re-open the HQ one? Hmm?

Blackwater?!? Or not...

Maybe... The Red Fang? Or just... Red Fang. "I'm a member of Red Fang." Sounds [censored] to me. Just throwing out "foreboding" names. The Company?

:banghead:

I'm a big fan of single-word names. Something dangerous sounding.

It's not about sounding dangerous. You're mercs, not assassins or thugs.

The Upstanding League of Refined Mercenaries?

I was under the impression that mercenaries were dangerous people. If you want to hire people to kill things, you're going to want to hire the Blood Bringers before the Society for the Letting of Blood.

Sorry for the delay.. Was unable to get on.

Looking at some of these names, I'm disappointed. Too simple.. Mercs for Hire? ???????????????????????????????????????? That's toooooo simple. Way too simple. And obviously they're mercs for hire. How about something cool, like Cougarclaw Mercs?

Mean.Evil.Real.Cruisers(?)

 Something like that always sounds good, but it's making something sound good IN IT that's hard.
