An Unique Nerevarine?

Post » Thu May 29, 2014 9:50 am

Hello Elderscrollsians, it's YoungStallion94. I'm pretty much done with my first playtrough in Morrowind, a Male Dunmer, and I'm thinking about doing something different in my next playthrough. The race I plan on making my next Nerevarine is an interesting/unique one, an Argonian. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether my Nerevarine should be a Male Argonian or a Female Argonian, so which gender should I play as, and why? Also, I'm trying to make a Nerevarine that all of the tribes/Dunmer would never expect the Nervarine to be, and an Argonian seems like a pretty good idea to run with, for in-game reasons/lore reasons/relationships between these two races, but if you guys can think of a more interesting/unique choice for a Nerevarine, I would be open for suggestions.

An argonian or a Khajiit is a pretty good fit.

You don't see many argonians or Khajiit hold high ranks in the Great Houses. Argonians and Khajiits are the common slave/cattle races in Vvardenfell too, so you're bound to (in a roleplaying sense, of course) make a lot of people mad.

Argonian sounds good.

Whether you want a male or female depends most on your personal preference. Secondary are the racial attribute bonuses that are quite different between male and female Argonians. A stealthy character is good with males and a magic user best for females.

However, since the original Indoril Nerevar was a male, I guess a female Argonian could be as far from him as possible. Vvardenfell's factions also seem very patriarchal, so a female main boss could be world-shattering for most traditionalists. :)

Man, Azura is really giving it to those Dunmer in your game... :D

Yes, that's what I thought. Won't the game/talking to NPCs, be much harder playing the Nerevarine as an Argonian since of what you listed above/the not so friendly relations between A. and D, since I would think it would be hard convincing the people of Vvardenfall/Morrowind that an Argonian is the Nerevarine?

This should be in Cheats, Hints, and Spoilers forum though, since there's a massive spoiler in this thread. I reported it to be moved. :)

I believe that a Nordic Nerevarine would be more lulzy and ironic for reasons that you are probably aware of.

Now that would really annoy the Ashlanders.

Good point, very good point, actually, since the Dunmer and Nords have such a violent history between each other.

Plus, it's highly implied that the Heart of Shor was the sole motivation for the Nordic invasions of Vvardenfell.

There are a couple of points in dialog where a race other than Dunmer would actually be more appropriate, and the only way a Dunmer fits at all would be because they were foreign-born. There are only a few Outlander Dunmer in the game that I know of, so playing one may be the worst case in terms of finding "friends".

I also played an Argonian Nerevarine, years back, and saw no real hurdles other than the minor initial resentment that you can easily overcome with a few extra points of personality or a bottle of bug musk. Come to think of it, nothing meets the "dragon born" criterion better than being a reptile. That would also play well with Azura's humiliation of the Dunmer for offing her champion, as pointed out by Archmagister Nelacayne.

Speaking of Nordic Nerevarines...my Nerevarine is a Nord. :D It really felt good playing someone that wasn't meant / expected to be a Nerevarine. The good thing is that even with the main quest done, Ashlanders' disposition towards him didn't greatly increase so unless directly talked to, some of them will still greet him in a usual way. Also, since he's a high-ranking member of the Imperial Cult, the Temple dislikes him, despite being the Nerevarine. Not to mention that killing Almalexia made him even less popular. I enjoy playing shunned characters.

In any case, YS94, I strongly suggest that you play a non-sterotyped character, it's quite a unique experience. An Argonian sounds good, especially female, because just as said earlier, that would be a real shock for conservative and radical Vvardenfell. But a Khajiit or a Nord would be a good choice too. Or a dumb Orc. :P
