Unique Races

About that - there's one thing that mocked me in Oblivion. Only Orcs had access to the Berserk power! WHAT THE HELL? Berserk is a Viking thing, so if any race should have it, Nords should!

LOL! Your not the only one that was wondering that. Nords were my favorite besides Dark elves which is why I'm pushing elves to be more Epic! I'm hoping every race gets tweaked in a big way to make the game that much more amazing!

Two worlds 2 style orcs would be cool. Other than that agree with most of the above. But the high elves worked for me as an orc/nord fan I have always seen them as a very snobby race since the days of everquest and lotr.

I'm glad I'm not! :) True, throw the stereotypes from LOTR into Mt Doom and make your own fantasy world. They aren't all THAT stereotypical, and of course the series should remain consistent, but any small addition like longer necks on Argonians, white fur on Skyrim Khajiits, and all the elves changes requested so far will make this game's world even more unique. Not just "That race is based on Japanese culture, those are half-lizards and those half-lions (?)" and so on.

Yeah I'm not wishing for any changes to be too big, I just want them to tighten things up. Plus I always wanted longer hair for some races (mainly elves) but they always made it way too short for my taste. Oh and one thing I do hope they add in this game is that your hair is affected be wind patterns not so stiff.

Judging by how awesome humans look, I have no worry that elves are going to look incredible. I cant begin to imagine how argonians and khajiit will look.

In my opinion, I'd like the ability to create Ohmes-rhat Khajiit, instead of just the Suthay-raht.

About the discussion going on: sadly for many, every race in Elder Scrolls is based on a real world culture. Its impossible to create things not anologous to our own world. Thats an epistemological impossibility. Akavir is basically Asia, and all the species are stereotypes of far east asian meta-culture (tigers, monkeys, katanas, ect.)

And I dont see reason why Skyrim Khajiit should have white fur. People are always migrating all over Tamriel, so I doubt for one that the Khajiit population is big in Skyrim, and that the little Khajiit there are have had families that have lived there for centuries. I doubt that. Khajiit come from the friggin desert.

While the visual differences all seem really engaging and I'm very excited to see how each race looks, I'm more excited about how different they will feel.

WIth the suspicious absence of attributes, I'm hoping that physics and Havok Behaviour have made it so that each race truly is different. An Orc just is larger, heavier and swings his mace harder then, say, a Bosmer. I'd like to feel more nimble as a Khajiit and run a different way then the Argonians, who in turn swim differently then any other race. I'd like to know that as an Altmer my spells are just grander, more powerful then an Imperial's efforts. Each race should have invisible attributes that set them apart and give true depth of choice to character.

I know right lol I mean we are into a new age of gaming and so far Skyrim is the prime example of how we can create another breathing world ... why not make things somewhat realistic with the Characters as well!

Nowhere has it been said there are no attributes. There are no CLASSES, however.

I didn't say that.

I said with the suspicious absence of them, I'd like to find out it means they are invisible.

Lack evidence isn't evidence. Yes. I'm merely speculating on what I'd like to see. I understand that some have perhaps flown off the handle a bit on that topic but this thread is about what makes the races unique and I was offering my take on it. Tangible physics and gameplay related difference between characters, further refined through leveling and perks. It's a sound theory even. But I didn't say or assert that it was the way it is or that attributes are gone for good.

And I didn't mention classes at all. Whole different topic that, really, is best left to Role Playing. Just as I don't need a 9 on a Strength chart to swing an axe harder then a woodelf, I don't need a nametag in the pause menu that reads "Battlemage" to assure my myself I can sling a mean spell too.

What kind of "cat faces"? I think both Morrowind and Oblivion did really well on the Khajiit faces. Can't say I approve of Oblivion having them walk upright like men and mer, though.

By "Cat Faces" do you mean with a flat face (no nose)?

As long as the make the Race bonuses part of the gameplay (maybe permanent skill bonuses? 105 instead of 100 for High Elf magics).

Redguards' Adrenaline rush should activate automatically when your low on health,
Khajiits' Night Eye should activate automatically in dark caves (the lighting transitions from dark to light).
Orcs' Berzerk should acticate when you land many attacks in quick succession (eg: fill your invisible rage meter).

And Dunmer's Ancestral guardian should actually be useful...

Female Bosmer having perky elf-faces and voices again.

Oh, and black eyes!

I disliked the way my bosmer character looked and sounded in Oblivion. This was after tweaking her as much as I could on console.
Looking forward to hopefully having more voice actors, and a return to mer, beast, and the races of men appearing noticeably different.
That's one area I hope the staff spends time and resources on.

And more choice for the look of the Khajiit: Manes and Tiger/Leopard/Cheetah/Jaguar/White Tiger/Puma Fur Prints.

Okay just my take on things ... tweak it if you must

Beast Races- They are beasts for a reason and need to look that way! Make them look fierce and make them walk the way they were made to, not like humans! I'm hoping to see a lot of good customizations for them as in manes and horns and stuff like that!

Human Races- In my opinion the human races were pretty good in OB but lacks variety. Like most people have said they were hard to tell apart aside from the voices but even then I still got them confused. Personally I'm not to big on the human races so I wouldn't know how to tweak the details to make them different.

Orcs- Kinda self explanatory if you ask me. Give them options to look like hell spawn demons! They looked too kind in OB and that kinda pissed me off. Make them raged and bigger, preferably a deeper voice and less human quality's!

Elven Races- Like people have said give them differences in the ears and give them natural set eyes! The high elves should look majestic, Dark elves need to look sort of evil and less radiant, Wood elves should be nimble.

So please correct me where I'm wrong because I'm sure there's some things I left out but this is just a basic lay out.

Dunmer are in no way evil, but their appearance needs to be closer to the one seen in Morrowind if you ask me, gray skin tones, red eyes (Red irises that is, all red will look awful, I can guarantee that.) and their hair and facial hair needs to have a distinct look. What I liked about the Dunmer in Morrowind was that they truly felt like their own people, in Oblivion they were just elves with darker skin, that's not what the Dunmer are, they are vastly different as a people form the other elven races.

The beast races should look like proper beasts not overgrown bipedal house pets.
