Unique Races

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 7:18 pm

In the recent Game Informer update it was said that races uniqueness would be ramped up greatly, so that you could tell very easily what they where. So what sorts of things would you like to see in terms of aesthetics for the races? I for one want to see the elves change quite a bit, I remember in Morrowind their facial structure was a lot longer and thinner, with eyes that in most cases had much larger pupils, making them look much more fantastical, whereas Oblivion made them look more like people with pointed ears, but that's just me. So I'm interested in what you guys are looking for.

I want a longer and thicker neck for the Argonian, bushy nostrils for the male Bosmer, bigger than the rock shoulders for the Orc.

I know they were trying to make them different from humans, but I found the elves kinda freakily ugly in Oblivion (in a different way to the humans). I hope they can make them look cool, and differentiate them from humans without me being repulsed by them.

Yes, I'm thinking not being repulsed by everyone you see would be a very good thing, but from the screen shot we've seen so far of a human face, it does look like we will be in luck.

Female Bosmer having perky elf-faces and voices again.

Oh, and black eyes!

This is definitely something I'd be looking for, the eyes really defined some of the elvish races and changing the Bosmer eyes back to black would certainly set them apart.

I liked the black eyed Bosmer. Made them look less cute and more like the little gremlins they are.

Differences in ear shape between elven races would be nice. I always pictured Altmer with bigger ears, Dunmer with more jagged looking ones, and Bosmer with ears that stick out/flop over more.

Humans really, really need distinct facial structures. The Bretons and the Imperials were really hard to tell apart just by looking at them in Oblivion. I wouldn't say no to the slightly pointed ears someone suggested for Bretons, though people would throw a hissy fit over it judging from that topic.

I like the beast races to look fierce. They were pretty cool and cartoonish in Ob and it kinda fit with the lotr-like world, but this time it's skyrim and it's war and I expect their faces to inspire more ferocity. Their gestures including tail gestures should be strange as hell, less like humans would look if they had tails.

No human legs for beasts.

I also want to see some differences between Bretons and Imperials.I cannot think of anything,so I'm eager to see how it'll be done.

I'd also like to see High Elves being somewhat cooler...I don't know why,but they have a "coward and snob" image on me...I think I'm gonna play as one to break this image down.Still hoping for more heroic looks though.

Dark Elves were perfect in MW,so I'm hoping for a similiar appearance.

I have to agree with you there, I think it had something to do with the voice the hair just the overall feel, but the High Elves did strike me as very snobbish creatures, also yes, the Mrrowing Dunmer were awesome.

different hights for each race.
Beast races that look unique
different eyes and bone structures for each race
possibly different skin colors and unique tatoos for each race

I like a lot of the suggestions here, especially for the elves, the black eyes for the Bosmer returning would be awesome. I'd love to see a few different varieties of the Khajit, instead of just one type.

I think it would be interesting to see the orcs look a bit more savage, while at the same time showing a bit of their possible elven heritage.

Okay just my take on things ... tweak it if you must

Beast Races- They are beasts for a reason and need to look that way! Make them look fierce and make them walk the way they were made to, not like humans! I'm hoping to see a lot of good customizations for them as in manes and horns and stuff like that!

Human Races- In my opinion the human races were pretty good in OB but lacks variety. Like most people have said they were hard to tell apart aside from the voices but even then I still got them confused. Personally I'm not to big on the human races so I wouldn't know how to tweak the details to make them different.

Orcs- Kinda self explanatory if you ask me. Give them options to look like hell spawn demons! They looked too kind in OB and that kinda pissed me off. Make them raged and bigger, preferably a deeper voice and less human quality's!

Elven Races- Like people have said give them differences in the ears and give them natural set eyes! The high elves should look majestic, Dark elves need to look sort of evil and less radiant, Wood elves should be nimble.

So please correct me where I'm wrong because I'm sure there's some things I left out but this is just a basic lay out.

I'd like Orcs to be shorter and at the same time broader. Makes them look like war pigs :P

And since Nords are totally METAL they should remain the buffiest race, maybe together with Orcs.

I agree. No other race should be able to be as broad as Nords or Orcs! They have always been the berserker race's and they should stay that way.

One thing I forgot to add was all Races should have different hair styles. In OB I was tired of seeing human hair on elves even though I know that its not impossible for an Elf to have their hair like that. I just feel the Elves should hair some long elegant hair along with some short elven hair styles while the humans have the usual types.

About that - there's one thing that mocked me in Oblivion. Only Orcs had access to the Berserk power! WHAT THE HELL? Berserk is a Viking thing, so if any race should have it, Nords should!

Lots of interest comments about the races here, I agree with what many are saying about variations in the Human's as well as they just need that little something to show them apart. Beat races being more beastly is also a very good idea.
