United Bretony: The Hills and the Highlands

Dock yard south of Daggerfall

The Admiral set behind his desk reviewing the paperwork on prisoner's that his delinquent Captain returned with. The room was lit by the sunlight that was emanating from the large window that overlooked the east section of the harbor and out into sea.

Colin removed the page he had finished reading to reveal a page that wasn't a prisoner's information, but instead Bass' casualty report.

"How in the hell did this get in here?" Colin grabbed it and was about to throw it aside, "No, I should read this."

Colin scrolled his eyes down the page reviewing the material, "Interesting. I have to admit he is good at what he does. He has his men disciplined like no Breton Navy I have ever saw.

With that Colin put down the paper and stood up from his chair. He then proceeded over to his window, and to his surprise he saw Captain Basszone's men training.

"They are training as if nothing is different. Their commander is suspended, but yet they have the same work ethic as if he was standing right there watching them. He has such a ridged command structure, it is like nothing I have ever seen before. The man might be brash in his actions, but he knows how to drill men. This must be something he brought from the legion," Colin thought as watched both sailors and marines train under the morning sun.

He then turned his attention to the troops belonging to the Northern fleet. One should not mistake these men for scrubs for all the men of the Daggerfall Navy where truly outstanding soldiers, but there was a since of polish from Basszone's men that made even their counterparts look bad, and this infuriated the Captain's of the Northern Fleet. Maybe even to the point of a rift in the command structure.

"I Just don't know how he does it," Colin said in regards to the Northern fleet, shaking his head the Admiral returned to his paperwork.

Elusmyr looked down from the balcony of the keep as cavalry poured into the city. A group of riders made their way into the keep, hearing their leader's shouts, he smiled.

"They're certainly enthusiastic about their aquisition of the city's beaurocrats. Give orders for the guards to remove the officials from their rooms, use force if you want, have them brought into the main hall, we'll greet our new guests there." He said, turning to Calendras who was standing beside him. "Oh, and have the troops been placed?"

"Yes, they've taken position in the buildings around the keep. We have messengers in contact with them, we can give them the order to pull out and board the ships as soon as we're done with the Bretons."

Elusmyr nodded. "I'll make my way to the main hall then, you go about your things. Also, give orders for all Wayrestian diplomats on the Direnni Isles to be imprisoned immediately upon your return."

Elusmyr left his room and descended the spiral stone steps in the large and warm grand hall. There, he took his place on the small throne nearest to the hearth, observing the Direnni troops lining the walls and around the door. Sitting back, he waited as one by one the officials entered the room. The Bretons would be there soon, and he would most likely have all the officials ready.

OOC: Hope you don't mind me controlling one of your guards, Dren, I just wanted to move things along a bit. Thanks :)

IC:

Viana; Castle Orsinium

"What do you mean the King is not here?" Lady Viana asked, smiling politely to the orc. Her tone was cordial, yet underneath there was a veiled threat, carried mostly by her serious green eyes.

"I'm sorry, madam, but King Durgap left not too long ago. Commander Ming is here in his stead, but she is busy at the moment." The guard obviously did not want to be there, he was not used to matters of the state, and had no intention of disrespecting a royal princess with a stupid mistake.

"Well then, may we at least go inside that I might wait for her in some comfort. You would let a lady stand out here in the cold? For shame, I thought Orsinium better than that." Viana drew back in mock distress, the back of her slender hand touching her forehead as if she were about to faint. Her royal escort, David, stepped forwards, smile barely held back on his professionally stoic face.

"I'm sorry sir, we've had a long trip. Is there any way you can let us wait for this Commander Ming indoors?" David's tone humble, almost apologetic.

"I-I," the orc stammered, clearly he was not very high up on the chain of command within the castle, "I suppose you may await the Commander in the grand hall..." he finished meekly, nodding to an unseen fellow as the gate began to open.

"Thank you very much, my good man," Lady Viana nodded to the guard warmly, striding past him with head held high, David following behind her.

"If you could tell the rest of our men where the carriages can go, I would be very appreciative," the escort said quickly, hurrying to catch up with his charge.

Beyond the gate was a small open courtyard, occupied only by a few hustling servants and one well dressed orc woman, gazing up at the sky with a melancholy expression. Lady Viana reasoned that she was no minor guard or servant, and would most certainly be the one to speak with regarding her brief stay in Orsinium.

The pretty young Breton tapped the woman lightly on the shoulder, bright smile flashing as her escort stepped quickly to her side. "Greetings, I am Lady Viana of the Principalities of Meir, come as royal diplomat to the Kingdom of Orsinium. Do you by any chance know where Commander Ming might be?"

Bhoriane, Woodborne's head
------------------------------------------

A breton with a worried look stared out the window of the tavern's second story lounge. Enemies were amassing, that much was certain. The assassin had never shown up, and he knew that the military would soon be pulling out. The city should have been in a riot, but it was dull except for the large enemy force. The breton, named Finkus, turned away from the window, and looked down from a nearby balcony into the rest of the bar.

The King has screwed up, he tried to move things to fast, the city is now lost to enemies. Need to evac, but I can at least burn the bar first.

Finkus moved out of the lounge and into a storage closet, where a simple lever jutted out of the floor. It was not connected to anything physical, but instead was tied to the layers of enchantments applied throughout the building. Pulling it would disable the enchantments, and there was enough flammable material in the storage closet to start a roaring fire. He pulled the lever, and the back wall of the storage close crumbled away, revealing an extra foot of space. In this space, Finkus retrieved the poisons, potions, and other materials that were set aside for clandestine operations in the region. Once that was done, he opened the door to the storage closet and began building a pile of straw and other dry items. He then used one of the lamps in the hallway to ignite it, and quickly piled wood and other materials onto the fire. It was quickly building into a roaring flame, and Finkus used his recall spell to retreat.

The Woodborne's head would soon be ablaze.

Bhoriane, Keep
-----------------------
Most of the officials were mere accountants or administrators, and were completely surprised to find their door's busted down. Soldiers that they did not recognize dragged them into the main hall. Meanwhile, the spymaster had heard the commotion, and barricaded himself in the room of Bhoriane's mage.

"What's going on? I heard shouting!" Cried the pudgy and gray haired court mage.

The spymaster quickly pushed a bookcase in front of the door, neglecting to respond to the mage. He then approached him, put his hand on the mage's shoulder, and looked into his eyes. Without a moment's notice, he then pulled out his knife and stabbed the mage in his heart. He watched as the poor soul's face began to sag and his blood began to soak the floor. The spymaster then pulled out a ring, marked with a skull. He held it in his hand as the enemy attempted to break the door down. He sat down on the bed and put the ring on.

The guards outside heard a horrible screaming, and soon they would smell smoke, for the Spymaster had used the suicide ring to immolate himself.

Calendras, Bakery outside the keep walls

Many of the soldiers in the Bakery were sitting around, cleaning their weapons, or reviewing their equipment. They were all fully and equip and ready to move out. A young mage was sitting in the corner, staring off into the distance. "Gazidrin?" Calendras asked. The man nodded. "I am. Do you have new orders, sir?" He said, looking up calmly.

Calendras nodded back. "Yes, I need you to recall yourself to the Direnni Isles. Here, deliver this missive to General, or supreme leader as the cocky old bastard is probably calling himself now, Elindrin. Those are your orders." Calendras handed the man a folded up scroll, the man took it and placed it in his robes, and then started mumbling incantations. In a burst of lingering and liquidly moving and spiraling light, he disappeared.

Gazidrin, Direnni Tower

Gazidrin stumbled off the platform before righting himself. At least I didn't fall and vomit this time. I'm getting better. He thought. He was still new to the art of teleportation, and the room seemed to move behind itself as the guard pulled open the door to let Gazidrin out of the teleportation room. Navigating through the corridors of the tower where he had spent his apprenticeship, and had been given the privelege of being a full mage just a few weeks ago.

Two guards in front of him pushed open a large wooden door, admiting him into the throne room. There Elindrin stood on a stool next to the throne. To sit on the Emperor's throne would be a grevious offense. Gazidrin bowed and quickly stated all the needed pleasantries, and gave the missive to Elindrin, who unfurled it, quickly read it, and nodded at Gazidrin. No longer needed, Gazidrin left the courtroom and wandered back into the mage area to visit his quarters.

Captain Dwinder, Egarcion

Dwinder watched as the entire mighty Direnni navy prepared to move out to intercept the Wayrestian fleet on it's way to Wayrest. They would send patrols of small ships along the waters in hopes of catchign one, then try to block it off and persue it with larger ships. It was a cunning plan, and would bring great victory for Direnni and it's new allies. The orders had been given from Direnni Tower via magical signal a few hours ago.

Dwinder watched the port fade away away as he sailed his ship off into the west.

OOC: Little writer's block today. Not feeling it.

Leonard, Bhoriane Keep

Men stormed into the keep. The elven guards captured the Wayrestian officials, placing them in the hall under watch. Leonard and his men made their way into the main hall, stopping in front of the elven men. Leonard himself stepped forward, approaching what appeared to be one of the high ranking elven battlemages. Men came behind Leonard holding metal cages, which were barely able to hold a man. He nodded at the Altmer.

"Tie them up, put them in these cages..."

The soldier nodded at the request, pointing at the prisoners and shouting to the other elves.

"You heard the man, get these rats in their cages!"

Leonard nodded once more, letting out his final question.

"I have one last question for you before you take me to see your leader. Which one of these men is the governor?"

The elf stared into space, as if trying to remember something.

"The governor is dead, but that man..."

The elf pointed to a particular Breton, who wore modest robes and appeared to be a politician.

"...that is the lieutenant governor, second in command."

Leonard nodded. He walked back to his captains, whispering something in their ear. Within moments, they were extracting the prisoners via cage. The cages were tied to the backs of horses, where they were driven off to another location. Leonard turned back once more.

"Take me to see Emperor Elysmur, your leader..."

Louis, Chevalier Estate

He rode back from the western hills, to where Ciel stood with his men. He approached the man with his head held high, his might lion-fronted briast plate singing high into the mountains.

"Ciel, everything is in position, and a man is on his way to Kambria to see if these Wayrestians met with Lord Daric. Now, I assume you are ready to get to work on the primary fortress, as well as...survey the enemy..."

Louis' face fell, his mustache dimming in the late sky. He had used one word that changed everyone's outlook on the situation: enemy.

They had an enemy. It was war.

Napolean, East Of Bhoriane, Iliac Bay

Anticlerian sails mounted their way across the sun, as a keen admiral sat at the peek of a large ship. Bhoriane was in sight.

"And now, we begin..."

Another man approached him, who looked like a captain of some sort.

"Of course, Napolean. We are sons of the west, and you must not forget that..."

Random Redshirt, Bhoriane Keep

One of the guards nodded respectfully to the United Breton. "This way, sir." He said politely, and motioned towards a door at the other end of the room. Without looking back to see if the Breton was following him, the guard walked on to the double door, pulling it open for and holding it for Leonard.

"Bow and present yourself as you are in the presence of Emperor Elusmyr, Lord of Direnni Tower, Emperor of the Direnni Dominion and all it's domains, and high commander of the Direnni army, high admiral of the Direnni navy and full mage of the Direnni Academy of Magery." One of the guards stated.

Calendras, Direnni Docks

Calendras watched as Direnni troops marched into the ships and prepared to depart to return to Direnni, Several of the military ships that had been sent with the transports for protection were almost ready to give chase after the fleeing Wayrest army. It was certainty that the Wayrestians would be seen by scouts and intercepted in time, but perhaps with the extra ships behind them, they could be chased into unfamiliar straits around one of the smaller Direnni islands, which would assure an easier battle for all the Direnni navy.Calendras and several of the transport ships remained behind waiting for Elusmyr, his retinue, and the battlemages and knights to leave the keep.

Captain Dwinder, islands along the immediate west of the Direnni main island

Captain Dwinder was on alert. Dozens of ships were combing the entire stretch of sea the Wayrestians were certain to trave lthrough. Lighthouses had been alerted and people were scanning the sea from the coast lines. With the mages maintaining communication, it would be certain the Wayrestians would not make it out of even the islands without alerting numerous agencies. This would be a glorious victory for Direnni. And if all went to plan, with few if any casualties.

OOC: walrus, it's going to take you time to deploy all those ships, you know. Realistically, your patrols would not have fully deployed yet, same goes for any ships following from bhoriane. And you guys do realize that a bar in the city of Bhoriane is on fire and there is a fire in one of the keep bedrooms right? Also, since you literally just gave the order to have men start looking for enemy ships, I would postulate that my fleet is already too far from the isles to be seen by any lookouts.

IC:
With a slight head start over any pursuing forces or enemy scouts, Colonel Wirich lead his naval forces along a parabolic route that would peak at Alcaire and end directly north of the Ur-tower. He sent two scout ships ahead of the fleet to monitor for enemies, while sending three scout ships south. These ships would follow the southern coastline of the Isle of Balifera and head in the direction of Wayrest. He knew that what he was doing would be insubordination, but taking the Ur-Tower would be a symbolic blow to the Direnni. Especially if he could destroy the external part of the tower, though the Colonel held no illusions as to being capable of destroying the metal cylinder at it's core.

We are now moving forward to day 6.

Most of the cities within a days range of Bhoriane have heard of this by now. Wirich and his fleet have took a curved parabola up near Alcaire and down into Ada-Mantia. They are met with 15 Direnni ships that have sighted them. They are about to do battle.

Meanwhile, Ciel and Louis have begun building the fort, and the troops are in their place across Chevalier territory.

The Elves have left Bhoriane and are on their way back to Direnni Isles via ship transport. They are followed by a number of troops, mostly Anticlerians. The noblemen and the Urvaiusians stay in Bhoriane to solidify the government there. The fire is put out after burning the tavern to the ground, but the United Bretony officials order that this tavern be rebuilt. This boosts the people's support, and seeing they have more rights and are no longer bounded by Wayrest, they are content with the new rule, not willing to rebel against the new government. The Rousseau Nobleman is put in power as senator of the town and is given a place on the United Bretony council. He forms his own council on the city, which consists of powerful noblemen, lawyers, doctors, and other respected members of the community. Some of the Wayrestian officials are placed in the Bhorianian prison and await their sentence. Others have been taken with the Anticlerians to Direnni isles. Any soldiers left behind from Wayrest, or any Bhorianian soldiers daring enough to take violent actions against United Bretony were stripped of their position and imprisoned.

Now, Anticlerians and Direnni alike ride on their boats going to Isle Direnni.

The Khajiit revolutionary politician in Camlorn has been found dead, and fingers point at Wayrestian agents who may have been responsible. Tensions rise in Kambria, as a recent council meeting has rumors spreading that relations with Wayrest are growing sour.

It seems now war has come with the wind, and is breaking the dawn. United Bretony has accomplished its first task of removing Wayrestian coastal power on the western peninsula. Wayrest, at the brink of a full-scale war with its neighbor Direnni, will have to figure out a way to solve these problems if they can be solved. The rogue colonel Wirrich seems to have every intention of invading the Direnni Isles. A political move made by a lowly colonel may now result in a full scale war...

The nations prepare for war.
