Universal Mods?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:30 pm

Well, I feel a game like this is something to be played on PC. Just for bug fixes, better textures, etc etc by the modding community. Im wondering if it would be too much to ask to have mods portable to the XBOX/PS3 via network, or media card?

Even if they had the option to DL a mod, and open it on PC TES Construction Set, and save as a PS3 Mod, or Xbox mod?

At this point the only reason im looking to buy a new computer is skyrim. The only other game im looking forward to play is Dark Souls on PS3.

Possible? Would you like to see it?

It would be nice, it would be silly for us to be against it, but it's not going to happen.

not possible, both because of software issues, and the fact both Sony and Microsoft is paranoid about giving any chance for people to find a way to put software on there consoles....means hackers aren′t far behind.

Yeah, really thats the only issue, is getting the blessing of Sony/Xbox. Since in reality its just save and compression/encryption format that differs from the different platforms.

I think its possible on a PS3 for Oblivion but its not legal becasue you have to mod the console It would be cool if they implement a system that lets you download mods through an online database, I doubt you would be able to make them on the consoles, but maybe you can download ones PC players made if they upload some kind of system for it. But I have a feeling this generation of consoles will not see mods. This is why for now I am sticking with PC.

Never going to happen. It's simply not possible due to laws and contracts in Sony and Microsoft.

next gen maybe? IDK but it seems highly unlikely that it will ever happen, never hurts to hope though.

It's technically possible for mods to be available to the xbox 360 but it would require mods be able to be downloaded as DLCs from xbox live and it would require that microsoft allow the modding community to get ahold of the publishing tools, which would never happen. Now, BGS could publish your mods with the tool for the 360 and put them on xbox live but that is so time consuming when they will be working on TES VI not long after Skyrim comes out, not to mention all the other games they have on the table. So yes, it's technically possible to do but it's not going to happen, it just isn't worth the time.

It'll never happen, sony and microsoft are too stingy with their technology.

Technically? Yes.

Will it ever happen? Highly unlikely. You can blame Microsoft and Sony for that.

It too bad they couldnt make the file format of the mods the same, and allow streaming from the PC, or media storage move. I have used programs on my PC to make a server, and had all my music and videos playable on the PS3, as long as it could decode the formats.

But if Beth made the ESPs the same format that the main program loads, and outputs, then we could move mods over, and select them from the HDs and have no issues, and no use of software licencing.

Well I am a PC gamer, so I really don't care if consoles get mods to be hones... but I'm also not at all against it. I think everyone should be able to play mods since they are quite often the best part of most games.

With that said, its highly unlikely there will be mods allowed on the console for Skyrim. Until recently I would have said absolutely not going to happen, but Valve recently announced that Portal 2 mods will be console agnostic and be available on all systems. They haven't said how they plan to handle it yet, or given any details other then the fact that the mods have to be developed on the PC... but they will be there on all systems in some form. So since Valve is doing it, I guess its possible Bethesda might do it as well but its very unlikely.

Even if Microsoft lets them, and if there are not tech issues (both big Ifs)... allowing mods on the console might have a very negative impact on DLC sales. Valve all but gives its DLC away for free, so thats not a concern for them on the console. However, Bethesda has made DLC packs a big part of their sales model and I doubt they are gonna want to threaten those sales on the platform that does really well for DLC.

then Sony would just rewrite the licenses X3

trust me they don′t want the mods on there console.

Yeah, I know they dont want them, but its silly, and should be possible. I dont see how hacks could be put on if there is no encoding of the system. And since the game is going to be single player, if they mod in an uber item it doesnt effect anyone else. So in reality, if they made the mods a standard ESP, that is only executable by the core program, which then uses the mod, it shouldnt effect the system, or give up encryption.

Worse case you put linux or windows on your PS3, and try and run a PC version

Yeah, i was gonna order a new one last week, but LGA1155 was pulled off the market till march/april. And got thinking about it, I own both a PS3, and a 360, so why spend $1700-2000 on a PC to play this game, when its the only one ill be planning on buying for PC.

consider mods can crash a PC, it can crash a PS3, and it′s much more rougher and expensive for the owner to get a PS3 back to normal, trust me, in Sony and Microsoft eyes, if your not a game dev, your a idiot and besides putting tunes and pictures on your console, your to stupid to do anything else. So there just gonna avoid that mess and say no.

I bet you could get a PC good enough to run Skyrim for less than $1000. Especially if you wait until fall. And such an improved system will benefit all the other tasks you do on it, like web browsing and other games you may have.

I'm only 16 ( in a couple months ) and haven't been able to get a job yet. So at the moment all my money is from Christmas/B-day. Which doesn't even get close to the money I'd need to get a decent PC. If I got one I'd definitely get Skyrim and BF3 for it. I'd use it enough that it'd be worth it, but I'd have to have plenty of money, a luxury I don't have.
