Unknown Race

Post » Thu Jan 14, 2010 8:13 am

Yes. There are countless extinct races from Tamriel, Yokuda sunk before anyone on Tamriel had a chance to explore it, and Akavir is still unknown.
This quote from Topal the pilot shows that there used to be bird-men in Cyrodill, so anything possible.

I forget, but arent the Ayleid sometimes discribed as having birdlike qualities?
or maybe im thinking of the Shi'ar Empire???

I don't know about Aldmeris but there could be more elves that were never related to the Aldmer.

Arent all elves kinda related to each other as descendants of the Elfenhoy?

1. Ayleids use bird imagery. They're elves.

2. Yes.

The entire southern hemisphere is uncharted. So there's room for Aldmeris, and more.

Aldmeris is fantasy, besides, I'd like something more 'new'...
I don't know about Aldmeris but there could be more elves that were never related to the Aldmer.

The Aldmer are the first mortal-elf-folk, all the rest came from them; so even if there were some undiscovered elves they would still be descended from Aldmer, because any elf that was around in the beginning was an Aldmer... besides, why not have something that is not elf or human...
...and I would have liked to have seen the orsimer before they were orcs.

*Glances over at the Altmer*

Something like that; they use bird symbolism (see their statues) and one is described as being able to transform into a bird in 2920...

But couldn't the Orsimer have been a "tribe" of elves within their own right, seeing as the Chimer were too? The very fact that they were the followers of Trinimac suggests in itself, to me at least, that they must have been more warrior-like than the Altmer.

*still glancing towards the Chimer*

The Altmer (tries to) look like they think the Aldmer looked like. The Ideal. A stereotype.
I mean, just search anywhere (especially any "art" community) for Viking, and you'll get a good idea of how they didn't look. The same goes for the Altmer version of Aldmer, however, these guys are working towards becoming their ideal, through selective breeding and all that jazz. Therefore, I think the Chimer would recemble the original elves better, as they abandoned many of the Altmer philosophies way back.

Possible. But if I remember correctly, it had more to do with them being oh-so-ashamed over what had happened to their leader.

Did the Ayleids look like the Altmer? It calls them wild elves on UESP so were they a different species?

Ayleid, much like the Direnni Clan (elves that lived in the High Rock area, ancestors of the Bretons) and the non-Velothi Chimer (those who followed Veloth's teaching, but did not go with him to Morrowind), differed from the Summerset Altmer much more through their culture than by actual "racial" traits. Wild elves, being the descendants of (and not "actual") Ayleids, however, I would consider a "race" of their own.

edit: So yes, I would say that the Ayleid back then looked very alike their contemporary Altmer cousins. They might still have had the darker skin (of the Wild elves) though, but I like to believe it came later. (I don't think there is any proof either way?).

IS it at all possible that there is an unknown humanoid race in TES universe? I was just asking because I thought it would be a cool thing to base the next Elder Scrolls on.

But surely such a display of zealotry had to have come from the fact that they were such devout followers of Trinimac? They would have probably just looked like big, muscular elves before they transformed. Brawn over brain type ideologies and what have you. Even though Malacath is corrupt, he has surely retained some of Trinimac's traits. And he had to have been a bit dense to begin with, having allowed Boethiah to do what he did.

No, I don't think so. They were changed into something the rest of the Altmer society would despise - thus the "piggish" and stocky appearance (this because of the favouring of "brains", and magic, over muscles that the average Altmer has).

I still think you would have been able to easily spot a follower of Trinimac in the streets; just as the Orcs walking around Tamriel in the games usually have a mace or a hammer on their belt and some thick armour. Think about it - how devout must they have been to have become so distraught about the whole affair?

Trinimac was the national hero-and-saint of "all" Altmer. He probable had a following of people more devout than others, but I do not think they differed from other Altmer in appearence. Can you tell a catholic from a protestant just by looking at them? And even if the followers would have been warriors of some kind, they would most likely have wielded weapons and armour commonly used in Altmer society in general - as I said, they changed into Orcs as a form because it would be despised by the rest of their community. The hammer and mace comes from the "brute" or "barbarian" stereotype of the Orcs, because of their physical strength, but while they were Altmer, they would probably have preferred other weaponry.

You can where I come from because the protestants wear orange sashes and play flutes together.

Couldn't resist.

I see your point, though. I still that the Orsimer must have been quite different to have been so profoundly affected by it in the first place.

The Chimer were the folk that the followers of Trinimac were trying to stop... it was screwing with the Chimer that got them turned into Orcs...

You might go that far, but really its about as different as followers of two different Divines in Cyrodiil.

Because if one of the two is going to look different from the would-be-Orcs, its going to be the one's they had the least in common with...
The Chimer are as well.

Yes, but the Chimer aren't the ones trying to look like the originals... And really you can look at the Altmer or the Chimer, it doesn't matter, however since there are no Chimer to look at we must turn to the Altmer...

Well, they were trying to look like the originals. The only problem was that they were under the delusion the Daedra were the originals.
