Unlockable Races

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:55 am

So what do ya'll think. Unlocked through hidden quests or achievements/trophies?

Update I only meant secret hidden races. Not our initial choices we had in Oblivion or Morrowind! Maybe 1 addittional already unocked then a few unlockable!

I really dislike that idea. TES has always been about making the player character you want to make, then doing what you want to do in their open worlds. Limiting initial choices through a grindish attempt at re-playability would be against those ideals.

No no, wait- people keep chanting "you can't go back, [feature] is the future!"

So since unlockable stuff is sooooooo 1990s...DLC is the future. You'll be able to play as a Nord or Dunmer initially, then you can add-on other races via DLC.

This is probably the most amazingly bad idea I've seen here yet. On this forum, that's saying something.

I voted yes and let me tell you why:

Every original race from the past Elder Scrolls games should be available from the get go. I'm talking the big 10: Altmer, Argonian, Bosmer, Breton, Dunmer, Imperial, Khajiit, Nord, Orc, and Redguard.

I think momulah's idea could work for unlocking new races, or rather races we've never been able to play as before such as the Falmer, Maormer, Kothringi etc. etc. Maybe by completing the game or earning certain achievements you could unlock the ability to play as a Falmer during your next playthrough. That might be an interesting way to introduce new races to the game and encourage multiple play throughs(not that we need encouraging)...

What he said. Also, I think it would create sort of a hierarchy between the races that really shouldn't be at the start of the game... Which ones would you start with, which race is "the best for last", that sort of thing...

Sorry, but its a horrible idea. Don't really like unlockables either, they are a bit of a gimmick, imo.

No offense this isn't CoD multiplayer,
You've reached X level you've unlocked such and such weapon
You've killed X amount of people you've unlocked such and such attachment.
Isn't really something that would fly with many elder scrolls fans.
