I started a sorceror character and apparently it had stunted magicka. Did this have to do wtih my race? Needless to say, I'm not going to continue using the character.

Standard sorcerer class has stunted magicka (i.e. "Inability to regenerate spell points" disadvantage) and Spell absorption. You may replenish your magicka pool by absorbing enemy spells or by talking to members of Mages guild. You may even absorb your own area affecting spells, such as Fireball.
