Unnofficial Final Fantasy Thread III

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:42 pm

I've been playing trough FFIX, just ran trough Pandemonium and ran into few Malboros. I had forgotten that they are flying monsters in IX, and their Bad Breath only hits a single target  VII, VIII and X got them right; big, scary and dangerous. Are they still present in XIII?

God, I hated those things, especially in VII and X. In VII, there was a point in the game where I had to climb up a snowy mountain. Malboros had a chance of spawning, and since I had very little to defend myself against them with, encountering one was almost always an automatic Game Over. I managed to survive one encounter, and that was with two characters dead and Cloud turned into a frog.

In X, they're not that bad, but what makes them truly annoying is getting any XP from them. The only method I've found is to have someone with First Strike, then replace them with Yuna and summon something. But that made it so only Yuna benefited from it. By the time I was able to beat them without that method, they weren't worth fighting for XP anymore.

Nope :shakehead:

How can you have a Final Fantasy without Malboros? Please tell me even Behemoths are in.

In VII the key to beat them was to equip Ribbon (found in Temple of the Ancients) and Enemy Skill with White Wind on a character, that made beating them pretty easy.

VIII was a lot tougher due to junction system, you had to junction berserk and preferrably confu to status defense for a character with Siren's Treatment command, and pray the character wakes up before the Malboro or confused party member kills him.

I can't remember how i've dealt with them in X, in XII they really weren't trouble. Except those special Marks.

That monster has always sort of amused me, it's a monster with poisonous breath attack, with a name that is almost the same as a brand of tobacco, Marlboro. I think they were called "Mad Oscar" before VII, though.

EDIT: BTW, after visiting Chocobo's Air Garden i got a flashback from a Final Fantasy spin-off game i remember playing an eternity or two ago. I think it was a like a strategy game (not Tactics) for SNES and involved floating islands, i think it had "Bahamut" in it's name. Does anyone have a clue what i'm talking about?

No Malboros, but plenty of Behemoths, and plenty of their seemingly endless variations, all much too weak.

Still on the Palamecia and nowhere near where I want to be in terms of weapon and accessory upgrades

For me to just get the weapon upgrades where I want them (ie the second tier of upgrades for each character) would probably take at least another twenty hours

I don't even want to know how long it would take me to get the accessory upgrades to where I want them

I have to say FF XII was kinda boring. I didnt like the character accents, or the combat system. It was all too hectic. When I play FF I feel like I want an epic story, and a nice non real time action setting to it. Having to run around so much in combat was obnoxious. What made me stop playing was also due to my TV though, really bad picture when playing this game, made it hard to make out details.

Dont take me wrong im a FF fan, I own 1,2 5-10, 12 and Crisis Core for PSP). Just bought a ps3 and XIII, and will def try XIV when it comes out. My favs are V, VIII, Crisis Core, and IX most definitely, X was also good I must admit, I used to think it was the worst, but its grown on me.

Anyways im excited to play this new one, I have a feeling about it :D

That's why most people wait til chapter eleven to begin upgrading. There's a lot more gil and CP to be had. And accessories upgrade really fast actually. Most only have one level that's only a few hundred to a few thousand experience. The weapons are what take a lot of time and money.

Well I'm better off than I thought I was

I was able to max out all but Snow's and Hopes tier 1 weapons

And was able to get one of Lightnings tier 2 weapons (I upgraded a gladius to a helter-skelter and I maxed out an Axis Blade)

Of course I only have about 15,000 gil now

but hey I'm owning all the enemies now so I guess it was worth it

Plus I have about 100,000 extra CP to throw around

How long will it take to beat Final Fantasy 13? (Usually play Veteran/MEd-Hard to Hard settings if it counts for anything)

~40 hours doing the bare minimum. Maybe 35 if you rush.

So most definitely longer than ME2?

Also, will I become bored at any parts? Anything that may seem repetitive or not fun to do?

I found 7 and 9 to be real good.

I played some of 10, was okay, 10-2 was good, got halfway, and then 12 was good, but diddnt finish.

Basically the storyline and battles are very action packed

Unless the sidequests are boring later on (So far all I've heard is that they can be fairly difficult) the game is very fun

I just got my whole party and now I can choose whose in it

Who should I pick?

I was thinking of going for a Lightning, Snow, and Hope team

But

I really like Fang and she seems like a good offensive and defensive character

So far I haven't seen that in Snow but I have seen an awesome defense

I keep Lightning (leader), Fang, and Hope as my main team. My paradigms are set up like this (listed vertically because of forum's formatting):

Lightning.: Ravager......Commando...Commando..Commando..Commando..Medic
Fang......: Commando...Commando...Saboteur....Sentinel......Sentinel.....Sentinel
Hope......: Ravager.......Ravager......Synergist....Synergist....Medic........Medic

Edit: the first paradigm is for building chain gauges; the second for dealing damage once enemies are staggered (typically only if there is only one enemy however, because the two commandos never attack the same enemy otherwise); the third is for simultaneous buffing and debuffing; the fourth is the first of the defensive paradigms, it's used for buffing, while the synergist is unhindered in his casting; the fifth is for minor healing; the sixth is for immediate healing. I usually start the battle on the fourth (COM, SEN, SYN); I find that with Fang taking all the hits, Hope buffing, and Lightning attacking, I can end almost any battle very quickly and without ever having to switch paradigms.

Edit2: also note that the above paradigms are in keeping with each character's three natural roles. I haven't yet began filling in the other roles, so I'm limited in my paradigms. It'd be much more useful, for instance, to have Fang as a SEN, while Hope buffed as a SYN and Lightning debuffed as a SAB, or some other combination of the three roles. That way, the two casters wouldn't be interrupted. I've yet to spend the time to grind more CP to learn any of the other roles on my characters, though I have gotten everyone's three natural roles completely filled in.

Man, these people giving out hours must just go straight through the game. I'm about 31 hours in and I figure I'm nowhere close to being done. I also love over-leveling and the upgrading system has me farming a lot, so that's adding to the time haha.

Spoiler
Damn You Cid Raines!

Man he is a tough bastard

He's already killed me three times but I got him down now and my strategy is working

But I'm definitely gonna get a low battle score for this

Finally, Finally!

I beat him

I don't know how much longer I would have lasted against him

I almost had him with Odin but the bastard healed himself as he was about to die

Ok this is gonna seem like a silly question:

How the hell do you kill the enemies on Gran Pulse without getting your ass handed to you?

Pretty much nearly anything can kill me especially if I'm not careful

I know I'm probably not supposed to attack those giant four legged monsters (I fought one and it stomped on my party-game over), the Behemoth Kings are okay so long as I get the preemptive on them, the Gorgonopsid (One of the wolf like creatures) I can kill fairly easily if there aren't more than four of them, and the other giant wolf like thing that I also can't kill (mainly in part because I haven't found one that wasn't hanging around a bunch of Gorgonopsid's.

There's also a plethora of other enemies that I've been having trouble with but the ones listed above are the ones I fight the most

Oh and those little bastard Rangda's that summoned the Amphisbbaena (one of the wyvern types) were a particular nice bunch :glare:

But despite this I was able to gather up a nice bunch of components and CP (about 100,000 in an hour and a half)

A handful of the creatures there can be a pain right when you get there (i.e. the adamantoise, etc.). Once you level your party up some though, they'll all be easy. I'd suggest having some fun with the Cie'th Stone missions. Good CP (for the most part) and good rewards.

Best general advice though: pay attention to enemy strengths and weaknesses. Before Gran Pulse, you can pretty much get by with just attacking and attacking, but starting in Gran Pulse you need to pay attention to strengths and weaknesses a lot more. Always keep a synergist and a saboteur handy because you'll need them if you want to be efficient in battles now.

Man, I'm still in chapter 7, I made a mistake and spent ALL my stuff on upgrading Gladius, so all my characters are badly weak :( I barely went trough with Vanille and Sazh in chapter 6, needed 3 tries against Woodwraith duo, defaith on both, and then spammed lightning on blue one, and completely forget to check on my HP and change for medic since green one is making a pate out of my party XD Now I got to part with Snow and Hope, soldiers here seem to drop a lot of chips so I think I'll stay here for a while and net some for gil.

Well, at least when I get party with Lightning any battle is piece of cake ^_^ all the crowd is cleared with 2x blitz combo and anything tougher than that get's finished off with 4x attack, especially if they get staggered :D

I bought it 2 days ago, and I'm so amazed by the game, I adore it! And what's up with everyone hating Vanille, I like her. :hehe:

Edit: YES!!! Fang and Lightning! My dream came true! I mean....you know.....guys?

I found it difficult to play since I didn't have anyone to play it with

It really is a game that you play with other people so if you're used to playing alone and you're going to play the game alone it might be difficult

Since I didn't get very far I couldn't really comment on the storyline

Thanks, I do play alone. I did see a video on you-tube and battle looked confusing to me. So thanks for the quick reply.

The bit that I played was fun. The battling is something new, definitely, but it's a nice change. My brother played through 3 "years" in the game and then moved on, so he definitely got the $25 or however much we paid for it out of it.

Liked it. If you play with people using the gameboys as controllers, it really shines. Single player is alright but it loses some of the appeal since it's just not as deep.

Alright got to the Tower of Taijin

But I decided to head back to get some CP and gil and play some Chocobo Hot and Cold

I've already upgraded several accessories to where I want them and I'm already seeing the benefits

and

CHOCOBOS!

C'mon you know there's only two real reasons you play Final Fantasy: To fly an airship around (which hasn't happened since what? FFIX?) and to ride Chocobos

The plan is to get as many ribbons as I can (most likely three is what I'll end up with) to deal with the nasty side effects that I do oh so hate

I took a long break from FFXIII....

Spoiler
Because I couldn't beat Orphan, and still can't beat Orphan, I'm starting to get really pissed. No matter what I do, I have three maxed out instant death protector thingies, only one elixir, all the items I need, I have over 10,000 health, two third tier weapons (though not fully upgraded but somewhere in the lv 70-78 range), maxed out Crysterium and I still can't beat him!

Even with the instant death protection he still manages to kill me with, you guessed it, an instant death attack. This is the most frustrating boss in video game history I am sure (and has the most health of any Final Fantasy boss ever).

I've followed all the strategies on the internet, I've made up my own strategies, I've tried simple strategies and complex ones. Nothing works!!!!

This is so frustrating!!! :banghead:
