Never big on Final Fantasy games. I played FF IV when it came out for the SNES and it totally put me off from the series. It was good, but it wasn't great. It was incredibly hard, and required more grinding than Diablo II.

I watched Final Fantasy advent children which, in my opinion was brilliant. From the music, to the animation, it was amazing.

In all honesty I don't think FFVII warranted a movie

For some reason I think FFVIII would have made for a much better movie while FFIX would have made for an excellent anime series

Well your problem is that you're playing FF4. Not the best introduction to the series, in my opinion. Though the North American release was supposed to be much easier than the Japanese.

To this day I still don't see the hype over FFVII. IX was a much better game, IMO. So was X.

I liked FF7. I didn't see what was so great about the story, but it still hooked me and was fun to play. I couldn't stand FFX. I only rented it a while back, but Tidus was so annoying that I returned it before the time was up.

I just got Odin

I got him on my second try but man he was tough and Hope almost died a couple of times but I was able to keep him up. If he had died that would have been it because he was really going after Hope and it would have been difficult for Lightning to get her attacks in.

I know other people had a tough time with him and I was worried I'd get stuck and would have to train even more than I already had.

Edit:

Finished disc 1

Oh and

Spoiler
lol Cid and The Lindblum

Spoiler
Alright I'm on board the Palamecia and I'm in control of Sazh and Vanille right now

My friend came over yesterday and was amazed that I had over 100,000 gil at this point when he was further along (about 20 hours ahead of me) and only had about 15,000 gil. So how much gil is good to have now?

Also I'm looking for a weapons upgrade guide that will tell me what items will give me experience bonuses when I use them to upgrade. So far the only thing I've found is the actual upgrades and what they do but no guide on the actual individual items you use to upgrade them (if that makes any sense)

For the money question: that's a good amount. You'll still need practically millions more in end-game if you want to upgrade weapons to ultimate forms. So basically, just don't worry about money until way later.

And for the second question: I've yet to find a good guide on the subject. But you should probably wait for upgrading until later (at least until chapter eleven). Basically, any organic item (has an 'x' looking symbol next to it) raises the experience multiplier, and any synthetic item (has a bolt/screw symbol next to it) gives the real experience. So when upgrading, use organic items to get x3 multipliers and then use synthetic items to actually get the experience need to level the weapon/accessory up. Also note: synthetic items cause the multipliers to go back down, so use as many as you need all at once, or get the multiplier back to x3 before using more to avoid loosing potential experience.
And one more note on upgrading: ultimate weapons retain the abilities of the weapons they were upgraded from. So when deciding which weapon to start upgrading to the ultimate form for each character, find a weapon that gives the most useful effects for how you use those characters (i.e. if you use ____ as your primary commando, you may want to upgrade from a weapon that has a high strength stat, etc.)

How do you ride a chocobo? I found one with a feather marker on it on the map, but I can't ride it.

It makes me sad...

Ok, so I figured that out, but now I'm on a mission that just seems to go horribly wrong no matter what.

Spoiler

Mission: 16 - Surrogate Slayer, Mark: Sahagin, Class: B

It's the mission where you have to kill that fish looking thing where you first find the chocobos. It's 2 fish things and 4 frog things. The frog things does the Courtship Dance which calls in 4 more frog things. I've tried multiple setups and the one that seems to work best is to have Lightning as Com, Vanille as Med, and Snow as Sen. It was working perfectly for a majority of the battle. Snow's HP was staying up and he was keeping their attention while Lightning went around and killed the frogs. I was about to kill the last of the main frogs and move on to the called in ones when, out of the blue, Snow lost ~3500HP and died. Then Vanille and Lightning quickly followed. I have no idea what happened. I didn't change anything, so why, with less enemies, Snow suddenly die?

It's quite frustrating.

I've forgotten exactly which one it is, but
Spoiler
you have to complete one or several of the Cie'th Stone missions. If I'm remembering correctly, it's mission fourteen that you have to complete to ride the chocobos.

Can anyone here recommend 13? I have heard mixed reviews about it, saying it's a good game, but a straight line has more choices than it's linear storyline.

I got the newest game a few days ago. Is uh... is the whole thing just running through halls? No cities, no overworld exploration?

The game's very linear up until later in the game, and then it branches out a bit more, allowing for optional missions and such. So no, the whole thing isn't just hallway after hallway, though a lot of it is.

And Betrayer: I would recommend it, but only if you like story driven games. It's no secret that the only real reason to play the game is to experience the story, seeing as how for a large part of the game that's pretty much all you can do.

Well, I don't play FF games for the diversity per say. I play them for the stories. They are usually pretty good.
I think I might pick it up.

Yeah. The mission I did after I found the chocobos let me ride them.

And I beat the mission I was stuck on. I was attacking the enemies in the wrong order. I'm still 3 minutes over the target mark, but I'm sick and it's after midnight, so I'm fine with that haha.

That's good to hear. I don't really mind it, seems to allow the main characters to interact with each other a bit more rather than just the one character interacting with NPCs.

'Course I'm not really sure that's entirely good. Vanille's actress sorta makes me want to kill myself.

I got to play as her briefly inside the falsie (or whatever it is called). There aren't too many opportunities in video games to skip and prance between killing things, I guess. :P

I'm stuck on mission 62, I think it is. I've gotten five stars on every other mission, but this one's a doozy (as in, I can't even beat it, let alone try for five stars). I think there's also a mission 63 and 64 after this one, but I can't find their stones anywhere, so I suppose I'll only be able to attempt them after clearing 62 or something.

Unfortunately Square seems to think that this "innovation" they keep going with should remove Overworld Exploration, Random Battles, and Turn-Based Combat. They don't seem to realize that over half their sales seem to come from fans...And fans don't want that much change.

I was very disappointed by XIII... easily my least liked in the series.
I have just started playing IV again and am thoroughly enjoying it. FFIX still takes the cake for me as easily being the best one.

Also was anyone else surprised to find out that Mehrunes Dagon was behind it all? :obliviongate:

My favorites will always be VI, VII, IX, and X. I even like X-2...No, I'm not high. I have a few issues with VI, mainly getting skills for Gau and Kefka being a boring villain. Yeah, poisoning hundreds of innocent people is horrible, but then that laugh of his just...svcks out all the evil from everything he does.

The translation is amazingly funny, though, I'll admit. "Son a submariner", indeed.

That was fun, another one i remember "Don't tease the octopus, kids."

I've been playing trough FFIX, just ran trough Pandemonium and ran into few Malboros. I had forgotten that they are flying monsters in IX, and their Bad Breath only hits a single target  VII, VIII and X got them right; big, scary and dangerous. Are they still present in XIII?
