Unofficial Anime Thread VI

Post » Wed Oct 14, 2009 5:37 pm

Transplanted from this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1084062-naratu-naratu-shippuden-bakugan/

I like Cowboy Bebop and Gundum: Seed but just don't get some of the shows listed in my previous thread.

From reading through this thread I've only watched some of these shows/movies: Ghost in The Shell, Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Akira (though I didn't really get the creature thingy), Gundum: Seed, the original Speed Racer.

Some of the shows I don't fully understand because I find them difficult to follow.

It's the same way with television. You aren't going to like or understand every show on TV....

If you want to try something more mature than Naruto, I suggest Neon Genesis Evangelion and Death Note. FLCL is also a good watch, since it's only six episodes.

Still though, I recommend giving the show a chance, I've enjoyed it so far and I've been told it gets much better later on in the series, I'm only one episode 16 and there's almost 450 episodes in total.

It does. I would probably give the same advice to anyone starting One Piece, is "give it some time." It starts out very silly and buffoonish, but gradually becomes much more serious and starts telling some much better/more in depth stories, though it never loses its penchant for buffoonery. Not that that's any consolation for people who simply can't stand to watch a series that long.

What's a good fantasy anime?

I really liked Record of Lodoss war (I watched it a long time ago on the toonami site) and really enjoyed it

Is there any other anime that are like that?

I didn't like Tower of DRUAGA and now I'm gonna see if Ragnarok is any good

Any other suggestions? (oh yeah I did watch Claymore a while back)

Howl's Moving Castle is a really great fantasy movie and so are the rest of Miyazaki's works.

If you watched the TV version of Lodoss, watch the OVA, if you watched the OVA, don't watch the TV
Sorcerer Stabber Orphen (or something like that), first season, second season was horrible
El Hazard (something like that), recommending the first OVA version only
Scrapped Princess
And a bunch of Lina Inverse

Amazon says part 1 of season 2 comes out April 6th. svcks too, because season 1 ends with a cliff hanger.

Definitely. I would also recommend Bastard!! if you're into comedy, although it does have it's serious moments. You should be able to get the whole series on one DVD. I think it's about six episodes at 40 minutes each. Like Berserk, I don't think it was ever finished. The series ends but there's still bad guys to fight.

Am watching the anime of Gurren Lagann after a friend recommended. Holy cow, this has to be the manliest anime that I've ever seen.

Also: I must be suffering from blindness or sheer idiocy, because on the cover of the 4th volume of TMoHS, the DVD extra says that there's a special ending, which is where the team does the dance all the way through, but I cannot, for the life of me, find it. Is there something wrong with me or is it the DVD?

Does anybody know of any websites where I can buy a box set with all 26 episodes of the dubbed version of Cowboy Bebop? Preferably one that isn't ridiculously expensive?

Though if you wait for a Bandai sale on Rightstuf, you can get it for cheaper (I could get it for $27 during such a sale, since I would get 44% off :frog: )

I'm watching Myself, Yourself

It's interesting and I really like the animation

So far the story hasn't really picked up (though by episode 3 it's starting to get interesting)

But I'm always afraid when I watch anime like this because I'm afraid it will end up like School Days

Edit:

Spoiler
Let's see main character freaks out when he see's a bloody knife. There are two main female interests one of which seems semi obsessed with the main character....yeah this can't end well

Can't. Stop. Watching. Naruto. Shippuden.

I really should get some sleep before classes tomorrow, this weekend I've watched over 45 episodes and that wasn't starting from the beginning as I already saw some on TV.

I hope you're skipping over the horrible filler episodes, right?

But isn't that 80% of a shounen anime?

That's why I stopped watching it

I got terribly bored with it

I don't even remember the last episode I watched

Something about I giant turtle in the lake and some kid that summons it by screaming and what not

Sadly, yes. The Naruto animators make some of the worst filler episodes possible, sometimes I wonder if the writers there aren't mentally challenged.

Yep, that was a filler arc. Naruto Shippuden isn't all that bad, but you just have to avoid watching the filler arcs. As someone who also reads the manga, they're easy to spot so I make sure not to watch them, but it's harder for someone who doesn't read the manga to do.

The thing with naruto is that, for me, I cannot justify spending time on an anim? that requires me to skip the filler arcs. The entirety of the anim? should be good. As with many things I cannot see why one would spend time on something that is not of the top quality - there is such a total wealth of superior quality items (over many ranges of interest), that there isn't the time for mediocrity in any area. I pulled naruto a long for quite a while (until 105 of shippuden), and I've got to say it was a huge waste of time, as it stopped being very good within the first 30 episodes (of naruto - not shippuden). I am yet to find a good really popular anim? tbh. The only ones that are extremely well known that I consider very good are Neon Genesis Evangelion and Ouran High School Host Club (essentially the only two anim?s that have ever warranted a rewatch for me).

Taken as a whole, Naruto is a horrible, horrible anime. That's why I don't ever recommend it to anyone, because I know they'll watch the filler arcs, which make the anime a pile of crap. The parts that aren't filler are good, but the filler arcs drag it down an immense amount. I only watch it because I like the manga and like to see the manga animated.

I equate Inuyasha to be just as bad as Naruto

Hence I didn't watch Inuyasha after a certain point (and if I did it was because I was waiting for another show)

But Hulu started showing the final act and I decided to kill it off

and I did and eventually watched the last episode

I suspect I'll do the same thing with Naruto Shippuden, stop watching it until it gets to the end and watch it and hope I understand half of it

I watch the filler. Sometimes it's pretty awful but I just can't bring myself to skip episodes in a series. It's blasphemous. Especially since I don't read the manga.
