I'm re-reading Death Note (manga) at the moment... I just remembered why this is one of my favourite mangas of all time :hehe: I <3 L

I'm going down to my local book store later today to check out if they have some new books. I asked them to get more Battle Royale mangas since my friend went on for hours about how awesome it was.

Still, I definitely need something fresh to keep me busy over the next week or so, what do you guys recommend? I'm only looking for mangas at the moment as the only way to get anime here in Iceland is to purchase it online and I really hate using my credit card. :/ I really like Death Note, Claymore, Bleach and... that's it. Yeah, I don't ready a lot of mangas :P

oh, and I tried reading Fruit Basket last week and I wtf'd so hard it hurt my brain

Started watching Spice & Wolf. The mercantile setting appeals to me. ^_^ Good to see a show with none of that nonsensical 'all confrontations equals battles with superpowers'.

And yes,the song at the end is disturbing. :s

I have the CD for the ending, I play it when I drive sometimes :hehe:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ6QXWP3XJI#t=22m37s

"Seven apples on a witch's tree / With seven seeds to plant inside of me. / In springtime I grew a magic song / Then skipping along, I sang the song to everyone. / I looked at the world through apple eyes / And cut myself a slice of sunshine pie. / I danced with the peanut butterflies / Till time went and told me to say hello, but wave goodbye. / A thousand sugar stars / Oh put them in a jar. / And then whistle 'round the world / Oh wistle 'round the world. / I'm a little wolf inside a girl, you say / And off I'll go from June to May. / Oh, whistling round the world. / Let's whistle round the world"

Oh Engrish, you got to love it :D

I live in Iceland and I have no idea what advlt Swim is.

Of course I like L, Light is an annoying kid who likes to play god. L is brilliant, he's the good guy in the manga.

I'll give Fruit Basket another shot

Imma google Gunslinger Girl real quick and see if it's anything I could imagine reading.

it's anhymanwsnetwork.com right?

Can anyone recommend a good, preferably dubbed, anime? I'm into more "mature" animes like Ghost in the Shell and personally can't stand animes like Naruto that have countless filler and are just plain silly and wacky at times.

So far I've seen:
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and all three movies
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni
Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate
Afro Samurai
Devil May Cry

Ergo Proxy is pretty much my favorite anime. It's along the lines of Bladerunner, iRobot, AI, Judge Dredd etc. It's on http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/Ergo_Proxy/70057364?strackid=7780bb567519f855_0_srl&strkid=913061484_0_0&trkid=438381 now too.

Also worth watching imo: Full Metal Panic. It's one of the "High School teens pilot mechas to save the world" genre but it can be a bit silly, especially the 2nd season "Fumoffu" which is pretty much just a gag season. Also on http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/Full_Metal_Panic/60032899?strackid=3817d7a5417b219b_1_srl&strkid=920860387_1_0&trkid=438381, btw.

And if you like the "mechas save the world" genre, (more along the lines of Evangelion) check out Rah Xephon, which I thought was pretty cool as well. Again, available on http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/RahXephon/60030788?strackid=3ca09196a685412f_1_srl&strkid=733359030_1_0&trkid=438381. (Man their anime library has really taken off!)

Yes but if your in America it's sad that we can't get all of the manga . But the first series is very good , if you have digital cable it's on IFC ( independent film channel) that is where I first saw it.

I know, right? Netflix is awesome. I just wish they gave you a way to use subs on the Instant Stream releases. :(

It's even better when they suddenly realize 4+ episodes in that they mistranslated the English lyrics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w41Cb2zysM Damn I love everything about that show.

Edit: *squints* The Youtube video also has mistranslated lyrics. It's "incurable sins", not bloody "all these scenes." <_<

This is how I saw the series. Sure, he may be twisted, but he's twisted for the sake of justice! Near is lame, I don't even consider him and Mello main characters. The second season just felt so tacked on.

Light is probably closer to a http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VillainProtagonist, or an anti-hero, depending on your perspective. Either way, though, he is still the protagonist, and still the person I rooted for, especially in the later portion of the series, because L seemed at least to be a more likable antagonist than Near. Personally, I'd say they should have just ended it after
Spoiler
L's death. Or if they wanted Light to fail, than just have it be L who beat him in the end.

Right on. :goodjob:

I just found it more exhilarating wondering what crazy scheme Light would come up with next to avoid discovery... rather than hope that he gets caught.

Well I was honestly hoping to see Light in his utopia or in the place you go after you die.
