Unofficial Anime Thread VII

Anyone know any good, more mature animes they could recommend? I was a big fan of Ghost in the Shell, Ergo Proxy, Hellsing, Afro Samurai, and Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni if anyone knows anything else that would sorta be up that alley.

I've tried watching some of the more popular ones like Bleach and Trigun, but they were just way too silly at times, and could drag on way too long (directed at Bleach)

Claymore. Some people didn't like it because the last episodes weren't done as well, but it wasn't too bad to me. I think it's worse for people who read the manga first.

I've also been watching Monster. It's pretty good.

I just looked up Claymore. Mutants killing monsters for money? Sounds a lot like The Witcher book series, which is definitely a good thing. I'll be sure to check it out.

Does anyone know any good "how to draw Manga for dummies" guide?

I like to draw and I've come up with a nice set of ideas but I feel like it needs to be a Manga for some reason

Anyways, Claymore is an awesome Anime, too bad they kinda screwed up the final episodes of the show...

Still awesome though. :goodjob:

Almost done with my School Rumble DVDs (on the last DVD). Pretty helarious series and one that I can compare to the levels of Azumanga Diaoh. Gonna watch Lucky Star after this one.

No, but if you ask me, you're best bet at learning how to draw manga is learning how to draw, period. My favorite artists show an impeccable respect to human anatomy, so doing some figure drawing would do wonders for your ability.

Definitely this

If you're in school take drawing classes

Most of all: Draw. Draw all the time. Draw in your sleep. Draw in shower. Draw when you're in a gun fight (and I mean with a pencil though you might get killed)

Draw anything and everything

Spheres, cones, cubes, and cylinders make for excellent starting points. Curtains are a little bit tougher but once you get shadows, cast shadows, and drop shadows down it should be a bit easier

I would also recommend getting charcoal to draw with. It's really easy to use though it does make a bit of a mess.

-----------------------

I need to read more Fairy Tail

It's so cool! I wanna get more Rave Master too! But I really like Fairy Tail better

Well I learn art at school but I don't know, everytime I try to draw Manga it looks like crap, or maybe it might just be my OCD...

Anyways, thanks for the advice, I'll just try again and again until it'll look good.

So is the new Haruhi movie going to get dubbed here in the states? Because it seems that Bandai seems to have launched a trailer that is only subbed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAyCTepec4c&playnext_from=TL&videos=Lg_pii6hNsM&feature=sub

At the moment, the movie is being shown at San Francisco, and is subbed only. I think a dubbing will only come with the DVD edition, and the theatre version will be subbed only.

I do believe http://www.anhymanwsnetwork.com/news/2010-06-01/disappearance-of-haruhi-to-screen-in-la-june-24 is going to be the dubbed version.

Doesn't make sense to have the dubbing cast if it isn't being shown dubbed. Though I can't say for certain.

No, it's still subtitled. I have an acquaintance who went to the San Francisco premier, and there were several voice actors there, (Even Christina Vee) and they were there to sign stuff. They haven't dubbed it, because of the time involved, I think.

Looks like you are right. I am hoping it will be added to the schedule at AX (subbed version, I don't want dubbed version) It ain't on the schedule yet, but I can hope. I still find it odd that the dub cast is there if it isn't dubbed. Just seems... weird.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (the second season has a "2nd gig" at the end of it) is an amazing anime series that I highly recommend. It also has 3 movies, Ghost in the Shell(Also comes as Ghost in the Shell 2.0 with updated animation from the original 1995 version) Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, and Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society.

Long names, amazing animes you won't be able to put down.

Hellsing is another really good anime. It's got I think seven OVA's so far, and the first few Hellsing OVA have english dubbing.

Anyone here watching http://www.hulu.com/house-of-five-leaves?

Plot moves slow compared to other series, but I still think it's really good, and just recently all the characters have started to tie together.

Naruto is licensed by Viz Entertainment. Viz only puts up subbed episodes of Naruto. Any source offering dubbed episodes of Naruto online is doing so illegally and WILL NOT be discussed.

Well I've been watching FMA Brotherhood and it's so much better than the first anime series (and I liked that one a lot). It's crazy how far away from the manga the first anime was.

Spoiler
I was sad to see that Lust really didn't have much to her in this one though. She died so soon. :( She was my favorite homunculus in the first anime, and her story was nice in that one.
