Unofficial Anime Thread VIII

Post » Fri Dec 24, 2010 5:54 pm

I've finally joined my school's anime club. It's tons of fun and wished I had joined last year. Can anyone give me a few suggestions on non-mainstream anime that they highly recommend?

Aww, no Oreime and Togainu no Chi. Hasn't both One Piece and Naruto been leaked early but still continued the next week?

Hulu added Tears to Tiara so I checked it out

It seems decent enough so I'm going to keep watching (has only seen the the first and second episodes)

Legend of the Legendary Heroes had a recap episode. I mean the series only has twelve episodes how much is there to recap? Oh well it was still a good episode so I can't complain too much.

I watched Blue Submarine No. 6 today for the first time in 10 years, since it aired on Toonami, and boy is it a great show. Talk about an apocalypse done right, with a hint of Dr. Moreau to boot. I wish it was longer though, or maybe even get a new series/reimagining one of these days. Might look into the manga now.

Edit- Except that the manga doesn't seem to be readily available anywhere I look. Drat.

http://www.anhymanwsnetwork.com/news/2010-11-03/ann-to-resume-streaming-oreimo-togainu-no-chi. I am soooo glad it has been fully worked out, and much faster than I thought it would. :twirl:

Links will be re-added to the OP on Monday, discussion of the series until that time is still prohibited (even if you did see episode 1 before it was taken down)

Edit: AND I get a new volume of Skip Beat today? Could it be a better day?

Edit2: Oreimo readded to OP. Episodes now up.

Just wondering if anyone knows any good sites to find high res anime pictures? I'm looking for SDF Macross/Do You Remember Love? images but I'll take any site with a decent selection. Mainly 1920x1080 and up, so wallpapers are fair game.

I made http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/2738/stickart3.png pretty Macross picture to use as art on my new arcade stick and it's just way too low of a resolution to print out nicely. :meh:

Note: This shouldn't affect most big-name websites, HOWEVER, if ordering through a buddy, ebay, or Yahoo Auctions Japan, you may not be able to get your package. My suggestion is messaging the person you are buying from beforehand (most ebay sellers are really good about this) to see how it will come into play.

PMed them to you, as some have less-than-forum-appropriate pictures in the mix.

Try Danbooru/Gelbooru for normal images and Konachan for wallpapers, I won't link to them though since quite a bit of NSFW content gets posted there.

Quck Edit: http://www.anhymanwsnetwork.com/video/5947/ is up on ANN Subbed, I believe it's up untill the end of the year, In my oppinion it's the finest Gundam series made definately worth a watch if you want some oldschool Mech action.

:woot:

Christmas came early this year! Minami arrived early. Shipped Friday (US, Saturday Japan) arrives Monday (US, Tuesday Japan). I don't think I've EVER had something arrive that fast. I think EMS must have seriously upgraded their Teleportation technology.

Unfortunately my memory card for my camera decided to goof, so I don't have a picture of her in the packaging, making her one of the very few figurines of whom I don't have a picture still NRFB.

Gonna clean out that shelf just for her later during Thanksgiving weekend.

PSA: http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=show&b=342 -- I've been on a binge of anime with anti-government undertones lately, so I've been watching it.

im looking for an anime that has good sword battles or magicish battles
like naruto but awesomer

http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=show&b=52 -- NOT like Naruto, but excellent sword fights

http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=show&b=17 - Also great fights

http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=show&b=330 - A bit more fantastical

http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=show&b=280 -- Needs explanation?

Other series to consider: Black Blood Brothers

Awesome fight scense, but no swords/magic (primary weapon is a gun): Black Lagoon, Baccano!, Gunslinger Girl

Berserk
Bastard!!
Bleach

Bleach is probably closest to what you're looking for. Pretty much Naruto with swords. Berserk is much darker and a little less epic but with a very interesting story. Bastard!! is... think Dungeons and Dragons. Very swords and sorcery with equal parts humor and drama. A little cheesy in parts but very entertaining. It's the shortest of the three, probably about 4 to 5 hours total.

Makes me feel old with all these new animes when I stick to my oldies and semi-oldies. I wish it weren't so hard to find some...Finding a decent price on Gundam Wing (individual DVD's) and Rurouni Kenshin (60 bucks and up new) has been a chore. Though I have taken to Bleach, FMA, and Samurai Champloo.

Hah? You feel bad? You think that's old?

Please. I'm still remembering episodes of Lupin III season 1.

Yeah, I watched a ton of anime as a kid. For some reason it was insanely popular in Venezuela, and they went all the way back to stuff from the seventies on to modern times. It's why I don't like it so much now.

Also, as far as I know, it's OK to talk about the Lupin III anime, because it was released in America under another name.

I've started watching the original Gundam series. It was technically the first anime I ever saw, but I hardly remember anything about it at all since it was taken off the air after the September 11th attacks. It's uncanny how much they made Gundam Seed like this, at least in the beginning.

I'm also planning on watching Sword of the Stranger soon too. Not sure when though. It'll need my undivided attention and I'm doing a 12 games of Christmas challenge so I've been multitasking.

Started watching The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

It's hilarious. I'm trying to watch them in order but Crunchyroll didn't put them in the right order but luckily someone posted the right order (I know that the episode titles give a hint to the order but I'm too lazy to try to piece it all together).

I didn't know what was going on at first but I did know the first episode wasn't really the first episode (and it was pretty obvious that the episodes were out of order).

I didn't understand the first season at all until I read the light novels.

I'm pretty new to the anime scene, but I like it so far, I'm just a little... picky. I seem to like series that don't go on FOREVER, have plenty of action, some humor, and I love originality. I recently watched Gurren Lagann, and I'm in the process of watching Darker Than Black (I LOVE it btw). I just can't seem to find the time for it, I also suggest it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
