Unofficial Anime Thread VIII

I don't know If I've said this or not, but I've finished off my Figma collection of the TMoHS team, and Alter Haruhi too, but I'm keeping an eye out for the Nendroid of Vanishment Yuki that will come out fairly soon - and looks like http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/ultimatemegax/P1180117_m.jpg

I don't know if anyone else here will get it , but I have a feeling DEFRON will probably get it too. :P

In general I am not really all that fond of Nendoroid figurines. However, I am debating getting the http://www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/shop/figure/haruhi/genkei.html#genkei_top from Disappearance. The detail is exquisite, but I've spent/going to be spending quite a bit on figurines.

No good anime to watch on Hulu or Crunchyroll

So I decided to watch Clannad again

Damn I've watched this anime like five times now

It's so awesome

Edit: Watched the ending song (something I haven't done for a while) and the question arises: Why is there a bunny in the moon?

Japanese culture thing. Americans see a "man in the moon", i.e. some vague image of a face, the Japanese see some vague image of a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_rabbit.

Hmm

I like the rabbit in the moon better than the man in the moon

At least the rabbit waves to you

OMG! Negima! 27 is awesome.

Jack "Glitch in the Game" Rakan. "The man who won't die", "The immortal idiot", and a personal favourite "Hey, um, our swords won't go through that guy. Seriously.". I love that man.

Finished up Kiddy Grade and the first season of YuYu Hakusho over the weekend. Started Karin and loving it. Nothing like a blood-producing vampire rom-com to follow an action series. Plan on watching the second season of YuYu Hakusho after I finish Karin.

For some reason I see your reasons for liking Rakan to be more related to certain characteristics you both have in common :P

My favorite season. The first was great too, and the third was decent, but man they dropped the ball on the fourth. Really wish they would've kept it going a while longer though.

Aye. Second season is my favorite too. IIRC, though, the anime fully covers the manga.

Finished Karin, and currently half-way done with the second season of YuYu Hakusho.

My favorite part of Yu-Yu-Hakusho was the Dark Tournament arc. All the characters got a shot of awesomesauce injected into them, especially Hiei and Kurama. A shame the ending of the series couldn't match up to the rest of it.

So I'm watching the 26th episode of Code Geass, the last of the first season. I really don't like Lelouch. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to like him or not, but he's the main character. It seems like you should like the main character.

I stopped watching after the Dark Tournament arc

Of course I think Cartoon Network started the series over after that and I quit watching waiting for them to continue the series but eventually forgot about it

It wasn't a top priority as I didn't like the show very much though it did have some awesome episodes here and there

After the dark tournament arc was another very good arc as well. Introduced a new enemy that was probably my favorite of the series, and took a break from all the fighting for a bit.

Finally watched 5 Centimeters Per Second. Parts 1 and 2 were great, 3 was just awful. Didn't like the ending and I really hated that crappy music. Seriously, that music just killed the mood.

Then I watched some Dokuro-chan, hilarious. Now I'm watching Shakugan no Shana.

I'm mad at Bleach right now... advlt Swim bringing it back just for a crappy filler arc and cutting FMA Brotherhood to make room is not cool.

I think I cut out at least 10 or 15 episodes of the Save Rukia Arc

after that I decided that Rukia and Ichigo lived happily ever after and made babies together

That's how that series ended for me

The ending of 5 centimeters per second didn't grow on me until the second watch, though I do love One More Time, One More Chance. It is very fitting of what is happening right in that sequence IMO.

Dokuro-chan is amazing, I wouldn't mind being splattered by Excaliborg, Having just finished up SnS, I can definitely say I am looking forward to FUNimation releasing the second season

Finished Shana. It was meh. The best thing was definitely Yuji's mom. Trying to hook her son up with a cute loli, that's good parenting.

How is Shakugan no Shana? I've been considering getting that for a long while now.

Last thing I watched was the Slayers OVAs and movies. Regular series is good, but it's the movies that I loved most. Lina and Naga adventuring around, causing havoc and all kinds of crazy things, was the best. Felt like they had a lot more room to have fun with the plots in the movies than they did with the series, since they're all prequels of sorts. If you haven't seen them (the movies) then I highly recommend you do. It's a blast to watch. A really fun series.

My roommate at "A" School is into Anime too. Watches a bunch of new stuff off the free stream sites, and I haven't seen him watch two episodes of the same series yet, but at least he's got the right idea. Honestly I'm not all that impressed with what I've seen of this "hot off the presses" stuff. Could just be that he has bad taste too, or maybe I'm eternally stuck in the 90's. :P

Stop. Go watch Occult Academy instead. Campanella is just pretty characters having a wonderful time being pretty.

It's boring. Cliché characters that fall in love with other characters for no reason, average to boring action, villains clearly more powerful than the heroes and with an elaborate plan that gets foiled by plot hacks...

Figured I'd mention, I read Death Note: Another Note the other day. Frankly, I don't know what all of the reviewers on Amazon were smoking when they praised this book. It's sooooooo boring. You know, I'll just post what I said in my Amazon review:

Spoiler
I went into this book knowing a few things. I knew who the killer was, and I knew what special power he had. But that actually made me more excited to read it, because I couldn't help but think what kind of interesting stories someone could create which such a character and such a power. But wow was I disappointed.

This book has an interesting beginning. Naomi Misora is recruited by L to solve a particular case. Sadly, despite the character "L" being called "L," the "L" in this book is nothing more than a robot programmed to spit out answers at the right times. He has no personality, and the L you learned to love, or hate, while reading the manga or watching the anime is completely different than the one in this book. Likewise, the Naomi Misora in this book is quite different than the one in the manga. In this book, you really wonder how she was able to become an FBI agent. She seems to have no deductive abilities what-so-ever, and would seem like a helpless child if it weren't for the fact that she knows how to fight. Taking all of that into consideration, these two characters are really quite boring and their activities a chore to read about.

The main events of the book, which is essentially Misora investigating the killings, are dreadfully boring. Essentially, all that happens is that Naomi, with some help, goes from one crime scene to the other, looking for clues that will help her stop the killer. But it's all just so boring! If only the writer was better, it may have been as interesting as it was likely intended to be, but that did not happen. It just draaaaged along, as if the writer was attempting to lengthen an already short book.

The ending was very anti-climactic, despite signs that the writer was at least trying to make it interesting. What was supposed to be a twist was far from it for anyone who had already figured out who the killer was, which, frankly, would have been extremely easy to do even if I hadn't already known beforehand.

The most disappointing thing, in my opinion, is that any actual interesting plot elements are not deduced by Misora or L, no, they're told to the reader by Mello, as if the details were an afterthought. The killer's special power is told to you by Mello and is never known by any of the actual characters. The killer's motivations are told to you by Mello. All of the background information is not told to you by anybody but Mello. This story would have been 10x as interesting if it was L or Misora discovering all of these things, instead of the reader simply being told them. These details make the actual concept of the story seem really great, but the actual story itself is completely lackluster.

This book was a big disappointment, and as a huge Death Note fan it's even more disappointing. If you can find one, read a summary of this book online. But buying the whole book would be a waste of money. The only reason I'm not giving it 1 star is... well, it's still Death Note.

Essentially, the book was dreadfully boring, and disappointing compared to what it could have been. How it got such good reviews (4 1/2 stars with 39 reviews on Amazon) I'll never know.
