Unofficial "Is [insert game here] any good?"

As above. Also, what about Grand Theft Auto for the PC? Currently I'm looking at a deal on Steam for all Grand Theft Autos up to SA for ?16.99

I know that they were pretty good for the consoles, but were they ported over well, or not?

GTA 3 and Vice City were both awesome on the PC and had a lot of cool mods. I haven't played SA on the PC though but I'd assume it's just as good.

Is Rome: Total War any good? I enjoyed Medieval 2 a lot, but didn't really like Empire that much (although that's more to do with not liking the combat of 'stand there and shoot')

Rome's great. I imagine if you enjoyed Medieval 2 you'll enjoy Rome.

Okay, stupid question. Is Torchlight good? Is it good enough to be worth $20.00? Is it just a diablo-clone with pretty graphics and no redeeming value? The only hack-and-slash I really like is Titan Quest, due to the vast character class variety and the ancient civilizations, armor, weapons, and mythology, as well as the diverse and lush landscapes.

I do not want an addictive game, nor a game that is only fun if I play online with people. If there is no compelling first person campaign, then I won't want it.

Definitely not $20 IMO. It's fun for a bit but gets boring after a while. Would have been a lot better with some multiplayer.
Good thing I got it for 5 bucks.

Well, using google maps, there are, like, no good video games stores that aren't Gamestop, Bestbuy, and Walmart within a 30 minute radius of me. Guess what is, though? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/38_Studios :o I should drive over and ask them to not make a stupid MMO and to focus instead on a strong single player game.

I don't suppose Blockbuster has any good deals on video games?

Not for PC if that's what you're looking for.

What about PS2 and PS1? That's the only other system I've got. :P Or, did they throw all their PS1 games into the dumpster like Gamestop/EB Games did years ago?

I haven't been into my local Blockbusters lately but they might have PS2 games still.
Lol they probably did throw out their PS1 games a while ago though.

I really doubt any major chain carries PSX games anymore :P

Dammit! I want to try that old PS1 Xena game... :P

*sigh* Gamestop has horrible PC game selection, Walmart isn't much better (and their prices svck), Best Buy's prices svck... Obviously I need to attend more yard sales and flea markets.

Spoiler
There damn well better be a good single player campaign. (considering Torchlight has no multiplayer. :P)

But seriously: It feels very empty from what I have played of it. It's a game that really begs for multiplayer, since there is no compelling story except to grind for gear and go deeper into the dungeon. I like how the levels are randomly generated, but I don't like how they never regenerate. In Dark Cloud 2 for PS2 I spent hours grinding up my weapons in the random dungeons, but in this game once you complete a floor you have to walk through the same enemy-less level each time you revisit it.

Maybe they regenerate later on, I dunno, but I found the game too boring to even play for more than a couple of hours.

Thought the same thing.

Hi, I have seen Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in a few places, anyone know if its good?

Is the combat like OB, Dragon Age or Bioshock (if it isn't like it, could I get a description...? no biggie)

How's the class/race selection?

Story any good?

Magic decently built?

Thanks guys

There's a demo on Steam, you should check it out if you haven't.

It's kind of like Oblivion, but much better. You can chop off heads and kick people into obstacles and things like that.

You don't choose a race or class. You get to unlock abilities though.

Story any good?

Not really.

Magic decently built?

I can't really remember the magic much, which makes me think it wasn't that great.

Yup. When I last played it, I remember that the magic and ranged skill trees were pretty lacklustre. If you play it, I'd probably recommend going with pure melee because that was what gave me the most fun.

Just an additional note in case you aren't aware: It is not an RPG. It is a simple linear action game, so don't go into it expecting a big open world or brilliant characters or any of that stuff. It's all about chopping off heads and kicking people into spikes.
