did anyone try the reborn campaign for FEAR 2?

Just finished it a few days ago. It's short (3-ish hours, max, if you don't fail and die a lot), and IMHO the $10USD price point is a little steep for its length. If you're looking for scares, there really aren't any to speak of--it's more of a strange vision quest type thing than anything else. Which actually works pretty well. That said--it's the rare DLC that actually makes a worthy contribution to the ongoing story, rather than offering some horse bling. ;) It's well-written and doesn't outstay its welcome. I think FEAR 3's going to assume that you've played Reborn and knows what happens in it, too, or so I can already gather from the pre-release info.

I'd recommend it myself, if you're interested in FEAR's story and/or really like Paxton Fettel. But it's up to you to decide whether it's worth its price or not. (I got it as a birthday gift--otherwise I think I might have tried to wait until it went on sale. Or until FEAR 3 came out and I gave up on that idea.)

Paxton is probably my favorite character...he beats colonel Autumn any day of the week..

sounds good...

Sins of a Solar Empire

Ive no particular interest or love for space strategy but I do love a good RTS, how will I fare if it isnt really my choice of setting. Is the gameplay/presentation/fun factor enough to compensate?

I've been thinking of buying Dawn of War II for a while and it's currently on sale on Steam, so I'm quite inclined to buy it now. However:

I have an odd relationship with RTS's. I WANT to play them, love them and be great at them, but I never seem to "catch on" or finish them. Homeworld 2, Supreme Commander, Starcraft 2, Age of Mythology, have them all and never finished the campaign. And definately never played them online.

However, I've heard DoW2 is more of an RPG/RTS hybrid which gets me hopeful (tactical RPGs have always been a fancy) so I feel more hopeful at this. What's your recommendation?

I've started to get into TES lately but I have a question.

Is Diablo any good? I've heard of it sometimes when RPG's are mentioned and they have a Diablo 1 and 2 pack in my local Target.

I didn't notice any other responses to this, so here goes.

If you plan to play with other people online, or hook it up LAN with you family and friends (which is what I've always done) then I think you'd have a blast with the game. Just by yourself, you'd probably end up crying because you feel so alone.

The control system is easy to navigate, there's a diverse world of weapons/abilities/armor/etc. And at least four very diverse maps that are huge and fun to explore. I really can't think of a drawback about this game if you'll be playing with other people, which is really how it's meant to be played.

Also, I remember the cinematics for this game were really amazing, and the story is really really cool.

Try the free shareware demo first to see if you like it. Also, the newest Diablo Warchests only have Diablo II + expansion. Older Warchests (no longer being produced, I think) will have D1 and D2 + expansion.

Titan Quest is an alternative if you like the ancient mythology setting.

How's Alpha Protocol?

Not that bad, actually.

I played it on the 360, and I think it's a great 3 day rental (or 2 rentals if you're busy).

Pros:

1.Truly open ended story, dialogs and courses of actions. Pretty much everyone and every organisation in the game can be with you or against you, depending on your actions, and if they are backstabbing bastards (and since it's an espionage story, everyone is a backstabbing bastard to a certain degree). You have 5 main "location chapters" (kinda like KOTOR) with the middle 3 that can be done in any order. But with the difference that you will meet some of the same characters and organisations in more then of them, giving you a truly infinite amount of story possibilities.

2. Backstabbing: Like I said earlier, since it's an espionage game, you can (and will) have to back-stab people to reach your goals and will realize that sometimes some radical terrorists, some rogue psychos and some bloodthirsty mercenaries aren't that bad (depending on the point of view) and that many of the "upstanding", trustworthy and good people leave only death and chaos in their wake. Characters might cross the line between friends and enemies many times.

3. Fun and challenging: The game is full of hilarious jokes (like when you fight a crazy drugged mobster playing 80's rock music) and challenging decisions and situations that'll have you think rather then just move and crush everything in front of you like most modern games.

Cons:

1. CHALLENGING: This game is hard, even has a soldier, you'll face ridiculously tough bosses. Example: You will fight against M. Bison from Street fighter (ok, not exactly, but he looks and fights like him), who can unleash a terrible unblockable 5 punches combos that'll take away most of your health (pretty rough since this is a shooter) while black ops soldiers come from every single direction to kill you. Prepare to die many times. If you want to live, (and have fun) play has a soldier, and specialize in assault rifles.

2. Bad AI: It's not that bad, but expect to fight dumb expendable mooks with little survival instinct and pattern based bosses. It's old school! So dont expect Splinter Cell or Modern warfare AI.

3. No multiplayer, and quite unrealistic RPG aspects: This isn't a fluid shooter like Mass Effect 2 or Gears of War. So if this is a problem, I dont recommend you play it.

In summary, it's like a mix between the first Mass Effect clunky third person shooting and dialog tree, and the Obsidian style great open ended elements and funny dialog. While in a cool Bourne Identity / James Bond spy thriller. It's worth a playtrough.

Its awesome. You can find it cheap and "Portal" alone is worth buying it.

I hated it. I rented this game and honestly felt like I'd wasted money. People say you either love it or hate it though, maybe its worth a rental for you. All I gotta say is I'm glad I didn't buy it.

Yeah, as Kiln said, it's absolutely amazing. You get plenty of great games cheap. Portal alone was easily worth the full price of the box, and then you get Half-Life 2, Episode 1 and 2 (I'm assuming it's the same as the PC Orange box here), and Team Fortress 2. Half-Life is a heck of a game, but Portal is easily the best part of the Orange box. It was so unique and it's great at what it does.

I'm having mixed feelings. The levels are designed Resident Evil 4 style with fairly lineair paths, and you can't jump. There are specific 'jump down here' 'go up this ladder' interaction points, but no freedom. And stealth is pretty messed up. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheComputerIsACheatingBastard and often instantly knows where you are even if that's not supposed to be possible. And you're often forced to fight anyway. I heard balance gets turned upside down once you reach high sneak levels so you can go invisible and sneak past anyone without problems, but that isn't good either.

So I wouldn't play with a stealth orientated character and expect you can sneak through most areas.

Weapons are very inaccurate if your skill level in them is low. It was fine when Deus Ex did it, but the AP devs went too far with it IMO.

On the other side the dialogue system and the consequences for stuff works is pretty cool, and I haven't noticed any serious bugs yet. Overall I'm enjoying the game. If you're getting it, get it cheap though.

I'm thinking of getting any of thr Mass Effect titles as they piqued my interest, however being about the only gamer I know, I can't ask for any advice from my friends. I'm not too fussy about my games, I just like them to run smoothly and maybe look nice if it's some type of shooter. I've enjoyed games from Spyro, to Kula World, to Age of Empires, to Grand Theft Auto so I don't have any particular genre preference. Is the game worth buying for someone who doesn't really have money to burn but really wants a new game to get addicted to?
Also my laptop is not exactly a high end gaming machine, but it handles New Vegas perfectly well; Windows 7, Intel i5, Nvidia geforce gt 320m, 4 gig of ram.

If your computer can handle New Vegas, it can handle the Mass Effect games. Now, I don't know if you'll get addicted to them, but the MEs are certainly worth the 30 bucks it takes to get both of them.

Excellent. The first one is the better of the two, although the second is still well worth playing. It's got a great setting with memorable characters and a good story.

Civilization V?

Also excellent. The new combat is great and it's just as addictive as ever.

Final Fantasy XIII?

Very linear, to the point of being pipe run. Other than that, high quality graphics, entertaining fast paced combat system, excellent music, characters range from interesting to , the story works though is nothing special. Propably not worth the full price for most people, but overall an enjoyable game.

Edit: oh, and no towns, at all. Shopping is done via save points. There are some non-hostile NPCs, but all character interaction is done in cutscenes.
