Drakan: Order of the Flame. I've read positive reviews about it, but it seems to be a lesser-known game. I did a little research, there seems to be a few issues getting it to run on XP, but it seems like it is possible. Anyone play this game? Is it good? I have the PS2 Drakan game and I've played a little bit of it, and it seemed neat. How much money would you say it's worth? $10? $20? My only option seems to be Ebay, but I don't mind.
What would bother me is if the main characters and story are very one-dimensional.
I remember playing that game when it first came out. IIRC, the story was run-of-the-mill. There are two types of gameplay: on-foot combat/exploration (think Tomb Raider with melee combat and an inventory system) and dragonback, which was sort of an arcade flight shooter situation. I remember it being fun, but nothing spectacular.
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. I have heard good things about this from some members of these forums. Why did it get mediocre initial reviews? Was it because of bugs that were fixed in later patches? At what price is the game worth buying? $5?
I snagged a copy for $3 on Ebay a while ago and played through once. Fun, and worth it for the low price tag, but again, nothing amazing there.
Has anyone picked up Crysis 2 yet? If so, how is it?
I got a super-cheap EA download key from one of those CD key clearing houses. I've only played about 3-4 hours so far. It's a good FPS and they did an amazing job optimizing the engine for consoles. I've never seen a 360 game that looks as good as Crysis 2 does (a friend brought his 360 version by the other night).
In a lot of ways I think the first Crysis looked better. Like I said, they did an amazing job optimizing the game engine for Crysis 2, but in some ways it's not as detailed visually as the first one was. I have to admit that I'm a tad disappointed in the game. I loved the original Far Cry for the PC and I liked Crysis quite a bit until toward the end of the game. The large, open design of the outdoor areas in those games made it fun to figure out how to scout an enemy position and plan an attack strategy. For whatever reason (at risk of sounding like an elitist the reason is most likely console RAM & video memory limitations) they decided to make the levels in Crysis 2 much smaller and more contained, which to me largely turns the game into just another corridor shooter. Don't get me wrong...there are still some strategic opportunities there, but IMO they're not as plentiful which leads to fewer opportunities to get creative with your tactics. I've played more than enough shooting-gallery-on-rails titles for one lifetime. Seriously, when are people going to get tired of those?
If you have a PC and haven't played the original Far Cry I'd recommend that over Crysis 2 despite its ridiculous story and terrible voice acting.
