Not for 40.

Steam.

$10.

Get it.

Edit,oh..yeah,I wouldn't pay $30 more for a physical copy,the game is good..but it isn't worth dropping $40 on.

If you insist on the physical copy,I'd just skip the game..not worth it,the game is fun-but it's way overrated in most cases.

yeah, I hear KOTOR is good, but I don't know if I'd like it 'cause I'm not really a Star Wars fan.

I don't see why not, I paid $50 it when it was released and it's definitely an excellent game. Ignoring the technical depreciation over time and the fact that you can get it cheap on Steam, it's still very much worth $40 IMO.

That said, I'd personally make an exception this time, as I had trouble running the retail copy on Windows 7 x64, but the Steam version has never crashed on me once.

I think KOTOR is one of the best games I've ever played, and I wouldn't drop $40 on it. I'd get it on Steam, or if I was absolutely stuck on getting a physical copy I'd just download it "elsewhere".

You really should pick it up though.

Edit.

Now that I think about it, that just might be me being cheap. :P

I'm not really a Star Wars fan either, actually I learned more about Star Wars just from the KOTOR games than I ever did watching the movies, and I loved KOTOR.

It's just a really good story, with interesting characters and some pretty good combat, I'd say try it.

Yeah, like Dar'jaar said, the demo was absolutely awful. I doubt the full game would be much better.

Now some person came to the store where I play Magic: The Gathering and dropped off some video games and let the store give them away. I picked up the following three Games:

Icewind Dale II
Rise of Nations
Guild Wars

I'm wondering if these games are any good

I have no experience with icewind dale II and Guild Wars, but i own Rise of Nations myself and played it numerous times. I also got the expansion Thrones & Patriots.
Rise of Nations is a real time strategy game with a little bit turnbased in it. I don't know if you're familiar with Age of Empires. If you do, then you won't disappointed. RoN is like Age of Empires combined with the boardgame Risk.
You can choose from several nations and then start on a Risk like field which represents the world. You start in the nomadic ages and end at the information age of the present. Your goal is to conquer the whole world. You can forge alliances, which can help you to destroy an enemy.
Like AoE it's about building your town and building your army to defeat the other nation. Sometimes you get missions to just defeat the other army. You can built several towns and let them trade with each other to generate wealth. With Thrones & Patriots expansion 5 more nations are added, you also get now the general unit and there are now some more campaigns, next to the regular conquer the world. There is a campaign about napoleon, one about the cold war, one about alexander the great and one about the discovery of the america's.
If you like real time strategy yourself and you don't mind some micromanagement, then get it. I love the game myself and sometimes i just play it again.

Could anyone tell me if any of the following games are buggy/crappy? I don't know much about most of them. As far as my personal tastes are concerned, I'm not wild about turn-based combat, click-and-watch combat, and party management.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magick
Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption (I have Bloodlines)
Sacred
Divine Divinity
Shifters (PS2)
Severance: Blade of Darkness (sometimes seen without the title "Severance")
Drakan: Order of the Flame
Stonekeep
Shadowcaster

I've played through most of Sacred. No major bugs that I could find, but very hack-n-slash oriented--it's more "action" than RPG. It's also very campy, but I didn't take it too seriously and had fun with it. If you're looking for a "serious" RPG like Oblivion or Morrowind, Sacred probably would not be the best choice. ;)

I own Divine Divinity but haven't gotten around to playing it yet--I have heard it's very good, though the ending (IIRC) sort of descends into a dungeon slog. Somebody who's played through it might be able to tell you more. The rest I haven't heard of or haven't played, sorry.

Anyone played Just Cause (the first one, mind)? The second one looks mind blowingly awesome, but isn't compatible with XP, so I though I'd have a look at the first one.

I'm not buying Windows 7 just so I could run just cause 2. Windows XP runs all of my favorite games with no problem, while & needs emulators and all sorts of junk. I think that I'll stick with XP for a few more years.

More questions (I know a bit about the genre, a tiny bit about gameplay mechanics, and I've read some Amazon customer reviews). However, I may not know about any catastrophic bugs, OS compatibility issues, or general svckiness (compared with games made nowadays). All are for the PC, unless specified.

Wizards & Warriors
Anachronox
Fairytale Fights
Portal Runner (PS2)
Money Python's Looney Bin
Wizardry 8
Darkened Skye (I swear I saw this for the PS2, too, but no other place confirms its PS2 platform existence)
Enclave
Hellboy: Asylum Seeker (PS1)
Beyond Divinity
I of the Dragon
Scrapland, aka American McGee Presents Scrapland
Psychotoxic
Sacred Rings
Keepsake
Dream Chronicles
Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches
Amerzone
Blazing Dragons (PS1)
Danger Girl (PS1)
Juggernaut (PS1)
Planet Laika (PS1)
Shadow Madness (PS1)
Dreamkiller

I want something with a good story - even an fps with some fantasy is good, as long as the characters and story are strong. If it's just pointless/aimless/paper-thin-plot gunplay or brain-numbing hack-n-slash (ala Dungeon Siege), please let me know.

Dreamkiller

It's awful. I tried it when it was a Steam Gift, and didn't bother getting past the first 2 levels. It's nothing more than running around shooting enemies in the "dreamworld," and the combat isn't even good. There's also pretty much no story, you're simply a psychologist who has the power to enter into your patients dreams and cure them by killing their fears. It sounds good on paper but it's horribly executed. Don't even bother with this game.

Ah, thank you. It's always a bit sad when a great concept is poorly executed. :(

I would get SI.It is a smaller less detailed version of Oblivion but still extremely fun.It is a lot darker and eerie as well.
