Unofficial "Is [insert game here] any good?"

I would get SI.It is a smaller less detailed version of Oblivion but still extremely fun.It is a lot darker and eerie as well.

Yeah but if I got bored of oblivion I doubt I would like it for long before it gets boring.

Also morrowind, I would try it, but the only version I can find in the UK is £25 far to steep for something so old, is it worth it ?

Ok any of the splinter cell games, I hear some are good others are not, any that stand out ?

Chaos Theory is the best in the series, no question.

Morrowind is easily one of the best games I've ever played, but I find it hard to recommend any game that old if it has such a high price tag. You should be able to find it much cheaper than that. You should be looking for the Game of the Year edition too.

It's much cheaper on American websites, if you look you could probably find a site that has cheap international shipping and the total would probably be less than ?25.

You could also probably buy it digitally, but I really wouldn't recommend it because it doesn't come with the Construction Set.

XBL dosent have it for some reason, considering it was a popular game.

Also I liked oblivion but got bored, is SI any good, or is it pretty much the same as oblivion and not keep me entertained.

SI is good stuff. However, much like the rest of Oblivion, it's really only good for one or two play throughs. However, exploration is much, much more rewarding, as there are some really nice hand-placed items. The quests are more varied, the landscape and ruins more interesing... Yes, the quests are definitely quite good. There's a lot of variability to the quests, and some are actually quite fun - like when you get to choose what traps to use on a bunch of adventurers going into a dungeon.

I enjoyed its Main Quest much more than OB's, and the NPCs are far more memorable. http://www.gogamer.com/Elder-Scrolls-IV--Oblivion-Shivering-Isles-Expansion-Pack-for-PC-Front-Page_stcVVproductId10879412VVcatId444710VVviewprod.htm if you're looking to get it on the PC (recommended, as you'll get to add on awesome mods for SI). It's far from perfect, but I liked it better than Cyrodiil.

If you don't get the GOTY version on the xbox you won't be able to get the extra content. I'd personally wait until you find a decently priced GOTY version somewhere before buying it, because you'll be missing lots of good content otherwise.

Are you in the UK? Amazon USA has the Xbox version for $20 used, but then it would be NTSC format and not run on your Xbox. I got mine used (but in perfect condition) from a GameStop for like $12, so I would check around all your local game stores before buying online.

Could anyone tell me if any of the following games are buggy/crappy? I don't know much about most of them. As far as my personal tastes are concerned, I'm not wild about turn-based combat, click-and-watch combat, and party management.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magick
Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption (I have Bloodlines)
Sacred
Divine Divinity
Shifters (PS2)
Severance: Blade of Darkness (sometimes seen without the title "Severance")
Drakan: Order of the Flame
Stonekeep
Shadowcaster

Divine Divinity was the buggiest game I have ever played and got way too easy, about halfway through my warrior was so tough nothing in the game could hurt him.
Sacred isn't a bad game but it is just your basic hack-n-slash. No major bugs if you patch it.

Patches don't fix Divine Divinity? No community patches? What about the sequel, Beyond Divinity?

Hmm, is there a good story in Sacred? Is the gameplay a bad repetitive, or a good repetitive? What kind of experience/XP system does it use?

Thank you for the useful information! :read:

Dark Messiah of Might & Magick
  • Really fun combat, but linear with a mediocre story. If you can get your hands on it cheap I say go for it.

Drakan: Order of the Flame
  • Decent game, with cool dismemberment effects. Pretty short though, and the ending is a cliffhanger that supposedly leads into the PS2 sequel (which I have not played)

I wish I had a PC able to play them, but I guess I will settle, I may not buy it, it could be more interesting, but probobally like oblivion is waay to copy paste for my liking, as for the environment, I was always more of a snow person (wizards tower in the distance with peaceful music playing was awesome) so the trippy mania and depressing dementia probobally wont apeal to me.

I wish they had a decent stock, the GAME near me is pretty bad, I doubt I will find it there.

I never played Beyond Divinity so I couldn't tell you anything about it.

Sacred uses the basic xxxx xp points to level and on level up you get 1 attribute and 1,2,3 or 4 skill points depending on your level. There are runes you can read or put in sockets for combat arts. If you get it I would suggest Sacred Gold as it has the Underworld expansion. Underworld is rather boring but it is a great place to level, find set items and runes.

No way to get GoTY content except with a GoTY disc. That said, Morrowind on Xbox has a nice feature of being able to use old saves when you switch over from a normal disc to a GoTY disc.

Sacred is a Diablo clone, more or less. One of the better ones, but that still pretty much sums up what type of gameplay and repetition to expect. Use your skills and equipment to fight monster hordes, in order to level your skills and find better loot, move on to tougher area, repeat indefinitely. If you like that gameplay in Diablo you'll probably like it in Sacred, and vice versa. For the most part it's standard experience-for-levels, but it should be noted that improving skills is done with runes, which are random enemy drops, instead of a typical point-per-level system. The story...I've heard worse, but it's pretty negligible. A few plot points per billion monsters.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. The game descriptions certainly made Sacred sound more exciting. :P How's Torchlight? I hear it's got mods, too?

As for Drakan on the PS2 - I tried it, but didn't like it. The VA for Rynn sounded like Lara Croft, I wasn't really fond of her character model, and I wasn't impressed with the graphics. The story also started off way too slowly for me to be interested in it. When the plot was explained, it seemed like the generic fetch-quest - find the [X] in the [Y number of] lands in order to battle [insert evil entity here].

I've always wanted a game where I can fight with a dragon, but so far I haven't found any I've liked. I didn't even get to the dragon part in Drakan, I got bored within ten minutes. Maybe it would've helped to actually know something/care about what was going on (such as from playing the previous game). =/

The expansion packs are completely worth the extra price, they add a bunch of content and story.

For what it's worth, you fight a bunch of dragons in Sacred--four in the MQ alone, and there's a few more in side quests. They're a good challenge, too. Like I said, I like Sacred, but I tend to like campy Diablo clones and don't take the game seriously in the slightest.

As for other games with dragons...well, there's dragons in Dragon Age, aren't there? :P I know there's a decent amount in Baldur's Gate 2, though most are easy to miss if you don't do side quests, and they're really tertiary to the game's plot. (Unlike Sacred, where the plot specifically directs you to go kill yourself some dragons.) Well, except for a couple in the expansion.

I suppose you've already looked at the Reign of Fire mod for Morrowind?

Oh I just remembered. Gothic 2 has dragons, in fact the main plot of the game involves them. Of course the game is so hard that I never actually got up to them, but I figured I'd just throw that out there.

Oops. When I typed "fighting with" I meant "fighting as"/"fighting via", not "fighting against." :P

So far, the only games I'm aware that have this:
Drakan: The Ancient's Gates (PS2) - well, I already expressed my thoughts about this
Savage Skies (PS2) - wonderful concept, hideous execution. I shed a tear for what might have been. *sniff*
Dragon Rage (PS2) - I never tried renting it. Fighting against tanks and army men doesn't really appeal to me.
Drakengard (PS2) - played 5 minutes of it before I gave up. Sometimes in medias res can be effective; in this game, it is not.
Lair (PS3) - well, I don't have a PS3 now, do I? I know, it got crap reviews, but a patch was eventually released that addressed the main complaint.
Neverwinter Nights SoU/HotU: Shifter class can turn into a dragon at high levels. Not as almighty and foe-crushing as I would have liked.
EDIT:
and some PC game called "I of the Dragon" - anyone know if it is any good?

You can ride the dragon in the PC Drakan game. I don't know how similar it is to the PS2 one, but that is the only dragon controlling game I am aware of.
