Hi I already have Fallout 4 and when I started the game set all settings to Ultra (not sure if that is always standard or if it anolyzes the hardware and sets it to a certain level).

My hardware is this:

R9 280X 3GB

i5 4750 3,2GHz

8 Gigabyte RAM

Fallout installed on a SSD

I was not sure if the game runs good on Ultra so I set all settings down to high / medium and the drawing distances to ~50%. In closed rooms the game runs at stable 60 FPS, outsides it is in many areas on 60 FPS too but sometimes I get huge drops to 20 FPS (for example at the police station with the paladin where the ghouls are attacking). I already tried to use the Shadow Boost mod thing but it did not help that much.

What setting should I turn down to "remove" these FPS drops? I tired many things out but it still happens to me. Or do I need a new prcessor? The graphics card should be ok for these settings since in post one it is under cards that should be able to run on ultra settings.

Try dropping shadows and godrays down a notch. They are the biggest FPS killers for this game.

Your CPU is fine. If you can overclock it a bit, it might help a bit.

If you can grab some more RAM that might help as well.

I am not sure about about overclocking, don't know how to do that and never saw how it works... don't want to destroy my CPU ^^

My RAM is not full when playing the game and shadows + godrays are on medium / low already but it still happens.

I have an asus GL551J and I just downloaded fallout4 off of steam and I tried running the game and it just either froze or flashed on and off... I've went to nvidias website and downloaded the latest drivers and everything's up to date... I thought for sure my laptop would be able to handle this game at low settings if anything...

GL551J specs
CPU: 2.5GHz Intel Core i7-4710HQ Processor (quad-core, 6M cache, up to 3.5GHz with Turbo Boost)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M (2GB GDDR5 RAM); Intel HD Graphics 4600
RAM: 16GB DDR3L (2x 8GB at 1600MHz)
Screen: 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) display, matte finish
Storage: 1TB HDD (7,200 rpm)
Optical drive: 8x DL DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive
Ports: 3 x USB 3.0, 1 x HDMI, 1x mini DisplayPort. SDXC card reader, Gigabit Ethernet
Connectivity: 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0
Camera: 1.2MP, 720p webcam
Weight: 6 pounds
Size: 15.0 x 10 x 1.3 inches (W x D x H)

Can someone please help me?

Normally you should be able to run it at 1080p with medium/high settings and get playable frame-rates.

No one know a way to fix this? I set shadow quality and shadow distance to minimum and it still drops the FPS when looking into certain directions like towns and so on.

Also try to disable Vsync through the game, and force it through your GPU.

C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\ directory, and edit the Fallout4Prefs.ini file with a text editor such as Notepad. Open the file, and search for the following line:
iPresentInterval=1
turn it too zero. So, iPresentInterval=0
---------
Also try with Vsync completely disabled. (On fallout 4 and your GPU.)
Other things to try: lower your resolution and your settings to medium, and try with Vsync enabled.

i7-3612QM (2.1 GHz)

AMD Radeon 7730m (2gb)

8gb RAM

Hoping to run at all, fine with lowest possible settings or installing mods for improved fps/lower graphics.

According to notebookcheck: At a resolution of 1280x720 and above, NOT (i don't kow what happens at 1024x768)

Black Ops 3 could be playable at 1024x768 (Low)

Metal gear Solid 5 until 1366x768 (medium)

Will My System Support FallOut 4????

I apologize for this being a repeat posting (from another 'thread') but, being new to this arena I was in the wrong area to ask my quesretions.

I am a fan of FallOut 1 2 and 3. I expect to purchase 4 but I am worried my system will not support the game. My questions are as follows:

1. a) do I need a dvd disc/disk drive to run the game (I have an old USB 2.0 (writes at 2x) external)

B) or do I just need an external drive to confirm ownership (non-piracy)? or

c) do I need the external drive at all after installation?

2. do I need a mouse? (I use a touch screen/touch pad combo)?

3. do I need to use Steam? (Never used it before.)

4. I use Symantec/Norton security suite for firewall/security/identity protection, is

a) FallOut 4 compatible?

B) if Steam is required (and I must be online) is Steam compatible? (if I do not need to be online I can always disable security)

5. Finally, I thought Fallout 4 was a complete standalone game yet I hear/read about Pip Boy and Shelter apps and problems, IS FallOut 4

a standalone game or do I need those apps, too?

Note: my laptop/notebook runs FallOut 3 reasonably well and has a GeForce 950 card and an older i7 cpu meeting or exceeding the specs listed by Bethesda tech support as minimum for FallOut 4.

In advance, thanks for your forbearance and help. Happy Holidays and New Year! Happy Hunting! RGCB488

The game it will come with a cd and a keycode, the disc will only have the steam install ans some game data, but not the entire game. For that you have to download it on steam using the code included.
You can completely ignore the disc if you don't want to use it. Simply activate the game using the code in the box, and tell Steam to install it. It won't ask you for the disc.
You will need an external mouse, as the trackpad pretty much svcks for navigating your way around the wasteland.
Run the game once, so it decrypts the exe and verifies it, then you can play as long as you login in offline mode to steam.
You need Steam's front-end to download ant activate the game. !!!
You can play Fallout 4 right out of the box - as it os, so nothing more is required.
------
Not to forget to mention, you need a steam account if you don't have one already. Unfortunately there is no workaround about that, however the procedure is straightforward.
----------
I would suggest 1366x768 (medium settings) with an GTX 950m

Obviously because your specs. Even if it's a DirectX 10 GPU, VRAM is insufficient for that game.

Also to notice this particular game (as it seems) doesn't support DirectX 10 GPUs.

You could make a new topic and post your dxdiag, also what have you tried so far would be helpful.

That's most of: Can, or will my PC run Fallout 4, and mostly related to PC hardware requirements.

1280x720 (low.) For acquiring better frame-rates try on a lower resolution.
