Do you think that a:

- AMD Phenom II x4 2,8 Ghz

- 4 GBs RAM

...will be enough to run Skyrim smoothly at 1680x1050@Max settings?

I tried to get an awnser in thread #2 but failed to do so. So here it is again.

i5 2410M 2.3GHz (I know it's a bit slow)
Radeon HD 6770M
4GB RAM
and I'll be playing at 1360x768

I'd like to thank anyone who responds in advance.

Other than the fact that we don't know what makes up "Max settings", I'd say yes.

THe CPU isn't slow, the Intel Turbomode on that CPU goes up to 2.9GHz, hyperthreaded, and it is Sandy Bridge architecture. The GPU isn't spectacular, but should handle 720p http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6770M.43955.0.html.

Yes, if you look in your Task Manager you should see TurboBoost.exe when you show all processes. It does all the work for you.

Just found a review of that card in Guru3D, and it seems pretty interesting for the 240€ that it costs (taxes and shipping included). Basically it beats everything else but the GTX 570 (it's mostly tied with it), the HD 6970, and up (GTX 580/590 | HD 6990). For it's price, it's pretty impressive, I think. It's direct competitor (based on price) is the HD 6950, and that GTX 560 Ti beats it in all the tests.

And now I've read some news that the Bulldozers get a delay again...seriously, I'm about picking that card, so AMD/Intel/Nvidia can delay their next generation as much as they want...(I'd be busy playing Skyrim meanwhile

).

That you can get two HD 6870 for as low as $310 after rebate, it is totally worth it. If your two PCIE are running x16 & x4 then you'll lose like ~5%

Being stuck to 1GB won't matter at 1080p or 1920x1200 for the 16:10 users.

that's what I was thinking. I'll be at 1920 x 1080 so even if both pci at x8 the increase from crossfire would still be ace.

However I changed a few of these to other components that seemed more suitable for me. What I need to know is will all of these components fit together into the case that I chose, and do you have any recommendations to upgrade this list.

Motherboard seems a bit dry, not too many USB ports and no eSATA ports, and one expansion slot fewer than I normally see on ATX boards. Also, one of your x16 slots is only clocked to x4, when I would preferably shoot for one x16 and one x8 slot, instead.

I would also suggest going up to a 700W power supply just to be safe, but you can make due with that one. Main reason is to help improve the lifespan of the PSU, because the less you stress it, the longer you can use it.

Other than that, you'll be all set.

I'm planning to build a rig soonish that I know will absolutely piss the game, but I would like to know whether you all reckon it could run absolute full settings on a resolution of 1920*1200 with a framerate almost sixty. :3

i7 2600k @ Stock speeds
GTX580 (likely from MSI)
8GB (2*4GB) G.Skill DDR3 RAM @ 1600MHz
And an MSI P67A-GD65 motherboard.

Amongst a few other components that shouldn't have a very drastic effect on game performance.

oooor the GTS 450?

For it's price, excellent. It runs Crysis 2 for me with full settings, high-resolution textures and all DX11 features in 1366x768 with just about playable framerates.

If you manage to buy a nicely fabric overclocked one, all the better. There are tons of manufacturers from to choose.

The GTS 450 is a mainline, medium level gaming card for medium setting, with some set to high, medium resolutions, and high frame rates. You can juggle those to have high image quality with medium frame rates, and medium resolution, or high resolution with medium frame rates and medium image quality.

The GTX 550 is the updated version of that card, and nVIDIA seems to think it is now much better, thus the promotion from "GTS" to "GTX". The fact is, I haven't heard anything about it, nor have I seen any reviews for it. I will guess it's still in the Mainline Medium class, however.

The GTX 460 is either at the top of the Mainline bracket, or the bottom of the High End class, depending on how you look at it. It should be able to run high image quality settings and high frame rates at medium resolutions, or high image quality and high resolution, at medium frame rates. All three should run Skyrim well enough, with the 460 running it best, and the GTS running it less good than the other two.

I know right. This is the base system I'll be building with, but I need to save a few more hundred quid first, so it might come in January, meaning I'll also need to have a think about using Bulldozer/GTX6xx/Radeon7xxx, and bare in mind the reductions of price in the parts already released.
