So atm I have a Q9400 @2.66ghz, 4gb of RAM and a 9800GT but I'm upgrading that within the next week. Now, what I'm wondering is if I should get a 460 or a 560TI? the 560 is slightly more expensive, but if it's significantly better I will go for that.

where does my amd hd6770 stand in this mishmash of graphix cardery?

The rest of my system will be as follows
amd 6x 110t
8 gb ram 1600
650w seasonic psu.

It's the same card as when it was named "HD 5770" before, at least for performance. There's one new feature added it didn't have before, but I forget what it was. The HD 5770 sat on the top of its class among the Toms Hardware "Best Bang for the Buck" lists every month for a year, meaning you got more frames per dollar for it than any other card in the same price range. It was still there on July 15th:

The number tells you it was originally intended to be at the upper end of the Medium, or "Mainline Gaming" class of cards, just below the HD 5830, which originally sat at the bottom of AMD's High End graphics card range.

Since it's unchanged from last year, it really isn't quite that solidly placed in the High-Medium ranks, but is still a bargain on a performance per dollar basis.

I just ordered everything for a rig, apart from the GPU, I'm thinking of the:

EVGA GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) DS SSC 1GB 256-bit GDDR5

Is that a good'un?

Well hey, if I can max out a modded Crysis with my I5 2400 and a GTX 460, you should have no problems with it either.

Anything better in that price range? Newegg has it for $200.00 after rebate, and I'd like to keep it there, but certainly no more then 250.

Still the 5570 is really not a powerful GPU. About equal in power to the GT 430 or 9600GSO based on the GPU ranking list over at Overclock.net

@Kilpinen A pretty good upgrade would be either the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127490 or the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500194, still good cards that should run the game at high settings (maybe a touch of Ultra) for under $140.

I am actually capable to spend money max. for 200 euros (pretty much same in dollars, i think...) Do I need to care about my motherboard when considering an videocard?

Yes, although not particularly attractively / speedily. That graphics card hasn't handled aging nearly as well as its faster brother, the HD 4670.

Don't expect anything official any sooner than 5-6 weeks ahead of actual, final release date, at the soonest, and three weeks ahead if the date gets bumped.

I agree with waiting. Prices are constantly dropping on computer hardware. A system can be a lot cheaper 4 months later or you can get better hardware for the same price.

As for laptops if you do not know what your system can handle its best to assume that you will not be maxing the game at a respectable resolution. The 560M GTX will certainly not sustain 30+ FPS on Skyrim with max settings at 1920x1080. That card gets 30 FPS average on Just Cause 2 on medium settings at 1920x1080.

I would wait even longer. I'm probably getting it on PS3 and once I have the money for a new hopefully Ivy Bridge and the GOTYE will be out. I would love to get that and a GTX 590 3gb.

Seriously i thought from these benchmarks it easily max Skyrim http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-560M.48313.0.html but i guess not? People on here with much weaker cards seem to be getting answers of high/maxed settings and the 560 is a high end laptop card? Also there's no way it gets medium settings on just cause 2 :confused:

If you wanna buy a next-gen computer (like me), I suggest you wait. Here are the reasons:

1) Nvidia has delayed their Kepler-based (GTX 6xx) new graphics cards from Fall-2011 to 1Q 2012.
2) AMD has continuously delayed the release of the new Bulldozer CPU's, and the latest news about them points that they'll release a dumbed-down version of them this October, and a updated version of them also by 1Q 2012. I don't suggest buying the dumbed down ones by any chance.
2a) Also, there are no reliable news of when the HD 7xxx cards will be released. Some say that by the end of 2011, but personally I doubt it.
3) Intel has delayed the release of their Sandy Bridge-E CPU's, also to 1Q 2012.

So, I got fed up and simply updated my 9600GT to an overclocked GTX 560 Ti for 200 bucks. If it's capable of running Crysis 2 DX11 Ultra settings at 35-40 fps, even more Skyrim.

Like all Geforce "n60" cards, it's between Medium and High End, not exactly either one, although usually above the line at the very bottom of High End. The Real High End for nVIDIA is n70, n80, but laptop cards simply aren't a dependable category to have any certainties about, because the manufacturers tend to frequently ignore the reference samples and the tech writeups that go with them. That's why there's no official support, because of the bad faith among the manufacturers.
