Well going my the last half of the previous thread seems like a lot of ugly is starting to show itself in the game. I'm still on the fence, but it seems like combat is bad and the quests aren't getting much better.

So I fixed my issue with the crash in Val Royeaux. I had v-sync turned off. It didn't effect other cutscenes or gameplay, but the first-time scenes entering VR crashed every time. I played a lot today, almost entirely outside the Hinterlands, and I've been enjoying it a lot more. Some of the voice acting is excellent, the water and beach on the storm coast are amazing, and I'm enjoying the cutscenes, which often annoy me. Exploration pays off a little bit, though they don't do as well as BGS in terms of little hints of story. I don't have the same level of wanting to wander off into the hills to explore, but I do feel it a little.

@Mark41, you asked about my specs. It's about 5 years old, so nothing special by today's standards, but it's enough for ultra gaming. I'm actually in the process of building a new box. Anyway, here you go:

i5-750 @3.8 GHz (overclocked, but rock solid)

8 GB RAM

EVGA Superclocked GTX670, 4GB RAM (upgraded for Skyrim, shortly after it came out)

ASUS Xonar Essence STX (more for music than gaming)

For the people who've bought the game on PC: are the graphics actually that impressive on ultra? I've been watching a couple of LPs of the first 30mins or so to get an indication and so far I can't say the graphics actually look that impressive to me. The facial animation is a step up from DA2, but the actual environments themselves don't look to have improved from the previous game much at all.

I have a couple of questions if anyone cares to comment. Are you able to interact with your party members as you're traveling around, as in DA:Origins? Has anyone tried out the horse-back riding, and if so how are horses in the game?

I have watched 5 parts (couple of hours) of a walk through but so far looks like the tutorial dungeon? Looks like it starts out pretty slow.

edit: can't type this am

It does start slow. But things pick up later, once you get to the first starter area just past the Dungeon tutorial you'll believe that your in a main story area, but it's just one massive side quest in which you rack up points to unlock other areas.

The Horseback riding handles well enough with a controller, but you miss ingredients for crafting and missions. And you'll need all you can get.

Your companions will have dialogue with each other, and sometimes your character will chime in. However you cannot control when this happens.

Thanks for your response. So there's no advantage to having a horse then? That's kind of disappointing.

How to you know about your party/companions? So there's no approval/disapproval system this time around?

One other thing that has me baffled: why no healers or healing spells? I liked playing as the mage/healer in DA:O.

Your comments can affect how relations go. The way to see how it changes u watch their tarot cards.

Game is open world and beautiful and cutscenes/talking really add a ton to game but skyrim still does a ton of things better
Theres no sitting animations or sleeping etc. 95% of npcs are static. Theres no pickaxe or mixxing potion animation.

Forget skyrim and there was an xbox arcade zombie game (name escapes me) where interactions with world where so much more

Spells are either base staff spell or one from a tree list. Its nice but skyrim still outshines with fireball or ice storm etc. sure aiming and controling where sn atea affact spell is cool in tac cam but there was no huge leap forward from dao

Scary thing it still could be game of year.

So they recently released Dragon Age:Last Flight I am contemplating getting it because it has very good reviews. My question is if I have not read any of the other DA Novels yet should I go back to those first? What are some of the better DA novels in your opinion?

There is an advantage to having a horse, you get around faster. I just wish they had made it so your companions also have horses.
Yes there is an approval/disapproval system, it wouldn't be a Bioware game without it. IDK where you heard that wasn't in the game but depending on what you do you will see in the bottom left corner "(Name here) Slightly Approves/Disapproves, Greatly Approves/disapproves, etc". You can't see an approval number or bar because they wanted it to be more realistic, you are supposed to be able to tell their approval by how they act when you talk to them.
They said they got rid of healers to minimize task management, which baffles me because they put a tactical cam in to help with task management, then they took all of the strategic task management out making the tactical camera useless. And party based RPGs main thing is Task Management. So I guess I don't understand that. They also said they left Blood Magic out because they where only going to do it if they could do it right. They felt that blood magic was too complex to actually do it right and they did not have enough time to put it in the game. I am hopeful that a DLC will change that and maybe they will put healers back in too. I don't want an unlimited supply of healing potions, I want to actually have a challenging time in combat like in the previous games where I would have to heal.
If you have not gotten to skyhold yet do not read this spoiler tag.
Spoiler
The only time I had a challenge was when whats his face attacks Haven and you have to turn the catapult to face the mountain side. All of my companions kept dying, and the only reason it was a challenge is because the game would send in a swarm of enemies most of which where the big ones.
One thing I am disappointed about is that IMO there are no characters in this one that I actually want to romance. Cassandra is too hard and seems [censored]y, I haven't met Sera yet (Which I guess doesn't matter because she is strictly lisbian), I don't even think you can romance Vivienne. Josephine is apparently romancable, but she is not a companion. My characters preference reflects mine, I am straight and so is my character. In the first one I romanced Morrigan because she was so damn cool and interesting (and she was hott), in 2 I romanced Isabella. In this one my character is likely to die alone. I feel like in broadening the sixualities in Inquisition (IE openly gay characters, transgender, ETC) they also limited it greatly.

The graphics are hugely improved from DA2. They remind me of a heavily modded Skyim with ENB, or maybe the Witcher 2 (probably better than W2, haven't played it in a while). There are a few textures that are a little less than HQ, but still much better than you'll see in DA2 and most more recent games. Also, the trees and flora are a step down from modded Skyrim, but still, it's one of the best looking games I've ever seen.

You realize that two romances for straight males is the same amount they've had in every DA game thus far? Sure, there's four for straight women but two of those are racegated so....

25 hours in, haven't touched the MQ in about ten hours. Having too much fun doing side quests, exploring, and closing rifts. I really like how the regions stay relevant (good luck trying to close some of the Hinterlands rifts early on), and change as you progress. There are currently

Spoiler
Red Lyrium Templars, Red Lyrium Templars
EVERYWHERE.

PS anyone know where the quarries are? Because my [censored] didn't take the right inquisitor perk for that and I can't find squat.

Yeah, those are rock solid specs to play DA:I at ultra.

I thing the i5-750 could go until 4.2GHz < http://www.legionhardware.com/articles_pages/intel_core_i5_750_overclocking_guide,1.html> (You will need a good after market cooler for that)

Of course even as it is, it's far above the requirements of DA:I. So you are well equipped. !!!

I didn't realize that, for some reason I always thought there was more. I looked on the wiki and you are indeed right.

On a side note I am trying to build the puzzle box requisition but I can't find any obsidian or Crystal grace.

There's tons of Crystal Grace in the Hinterlands. There's some in the area where you root out black wolves over by the Redcliffe Farms as well as the southern path from Valammar to the woods (can't remember the name of the region off the top of my head, but it's the one with all the damn bears).

As far as obsidian, IDK. :P

I got some in the Hinterlands, by that area where the high Dragon shows up. After she leaves, kill the dragonlings and you'll find tons of the stuff.

OKAY! so, it turns out that I've been playing this game the wrong way. Rushing through stuff and being a rouge..man oh man did I have it wrong. Been playing as my two-handed warrior and things just seem to be looking up. Been running around, taking it slow and just leveling up and exploring. Already got to level 8 and I found some Masterwork Vanguard armor!

Now I have a question...where the heck do I find Great bear claws? Or better yet, some great bears in general? I only find bears....

Just tried out the multiplayer for an hour or two. It's fun, but at one point we got glitched pretty hard. Respawned after dying but was in tac-cam mode instead of over the shoulder. Had to let the leader leave and rejoin so it could reset itself, so it looks like multiplier needs some attention as well. Still, it was fun.

There are only 3 of them, and they spawn in the Hinterlands between the villa (mercenary fort), the rift, and the open temple-like structure. Fairly close to the farms/horse merchant. They should all be on your map after reading the note.

If anyone's looking for some obsidian, you can find a lot of it in Crestwood. I only found three sources in the Hinterlands, and they're only in areas that are higher level then the usual level for the Hinterlands.

It really depends on what you want - The Stolen Throne and The Calling are prequels to DA:O, Asunder and Masked Empire are prequels to DA:I.

You'll get a gist of the plot of Asunder during dialogue with Cole and other NPCs, with some spoilers. The codex entry on the Orlesian Civil War spoils some details on Masked Empire. I haven't reached the civil war quest arc yet, but I assume the major characters of Masked Empire will show up during it.

I haven't started Last Flight yet, but I hear it's not as connected to the plot of Inquisition as Asunder and Masked Empire are.

Well I finally got my game to stop crashing (don't ask me how, no idea) and I've been playing all day! Iron Bull and Varric are funny together.

I found it amusing that you can still flirt with characters who are not romance options, like I'm playing a male elf and the romance option showed up for Cullen. For a second I feared I caught the gender bug but it seems to be normal (makes sense otherwise there wouldn't be any male dialogue for Cullen flirting). It did turn a little awkward when he had to turn my mage's advances down :P

But yes, I'm enjoying the game a lot.

So now I am getting crashes not to the desktop but to a white screen. It just freezes then the screen suddenly turns white. I don't get it.

Spoiler alert: Cullen is a romance option for female humans.

I'm well aware of that :P That's why it confused me for a second because I play a male.
