Unofficial Hard-Core Mode Wish List and Poll

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:09 am

I liked hard core mode but I found some of the micro-management required silly - feeding for instance.

I have food and water in my backpack - my character should use it automatically at sane intervals so he doesn't get thirsty and hungry unless I have neglected to outfit him properly.. It would be my job to keep those things filled. I shouldn't have to babysit.

It felt like every three seconds I was having to stop and put cereal on a spoon... "Here comes the airplane.. Open up the hangar!!"

Please... No.

hardcoe mode was essential, because one it was turned off, the game just felt...off. I was too used to it, and I like food and drink having a function, as long as it's fair. There's a fine line between a system like that being absolutely useless (having to eat in GTA: San Andreas or your health would take a penalty. A thing that popped up ONCE a week in-game), and having it to the point you've got the eating habits of a hobbit and eat twelve times a day or god help you. Having to eat and drink once or twice a day is fine and fair. Sleep also is a nice touch, because why else have beds be there?

But that's pretty much all I want, or at least all that I'm content with. It's a system that can easily become overly complex and I appreciate simplicity. If it's too complex and too rules heavy as a mode, then exploration and everything else takes a back seat because my needs are in the red constantly.

New Vegas did it right, in my opinion.

What I'd want:

- Call it anything other than hardcoe.

- Integrate needs in a way that doesn't feel like they were put in just for the sake of having them. Instead of introducing realistic systems, just focus on a system that encourages us to behave realistically. Eating/drinking/sleeping should feel natural, not just something we're reminded to do when our HUD lights up.

Hell, if they do that they wouldn't *need* to pack it in a separate mode for all I care. Could also integrate it much better with the rest of the game; New Vegas didn't have any perks or anything to address the hardcoe mechanics. Things like ammo having weight or stims not stacking wouldn't be as controversial as needs mechanics, so those don't need a separate mode; most people won't care either way so long as it's balanced right.

Really hoping for these at min with base (or added with 1st DLC)

CHEMS from NV

FWE/IMCN/Project Nevada -- adds the 3 basic NV hardcoe needs PLUS more complex needs and environmental interactions these mods added PLUS Toilet Paper mod (and ability to bathe/get dirty)

Ambient Temperature effects synched with Weather effects -- so your PC can react to temp changes in their environment. Being cold should induce hypothermia (the way Chesko's Frostfall in Skyrim works). Or being overheated should affect thirst, ability to wear power armor/heavier armors, amount of layered clothing your PC wears, affects their vision, cause them to faint/pass out from heatstroke etc. Basically their combat abilities and crafting skills should be affected for example

Skyrim's Frostfall & Wet n Cold mod exposure penalties -- now that we know it can rain, have radioactive rain so your character can get themselves and clothing soaked. Being cold and wet should have combat and crafting penalities. Should encourage your PC to eat/drinks nourishing foods to keep their stamina, health and endurance up

Skyrim's Battle Field & Injuries mod. Pipboy already has a base fundamental design of this. But it would be nice if Beth still gives us the option to heal PC wounds over time. But difference here is that if this is like Skyirm's BFI mod, then your PC can and will ultimately die of their more serious injuries if not treated. You should be able to craft a variety of bandages, medicines etc using the CHEMS mod and other stuff you salvage in the wasteland.

Portable: Backpacks, stove/grill, water purifer, bedroll. Backpacks should add ability to carry weight. Hoping this would work immersively like Chesko's update of BlackWolf backpacks. And come in a variety of textures.

Better variety of pre war clothing (like the Spice of Life mod in NV) to add variety to the traditional vanilla prewar business/casual attire NPCs wore in NV and F03. But these need to be sold by specifc vendors in certain areas. Which force you to explore map.

More mannequins at your vanilla safehouse. At least 2 dozen mannequins. Now that we can build our own settlements with Beth's RTS version, then theoretically, this may be possible to construct additional storage rooms/armories separate from your home in the new setttlement towns

Fluffy stuff: working motorbike, car to compliment the working vertibirds and power pack we're getting. Would be great to salvage metal scraps and parts for a vehicle like a bike/car and put that together from scratch at the workbench

Cannabis mod (which beth would never add but would be nice if they added some sort of hallucinogenic plant harvestable your PC could ingest and sell to NPCs)

Alchol -ability to craft/brew this as ingestible, use for crafting weapons (like being able to add poisonous ingredients then adding that to a dart gun) etc. Then be able to sell it to NPCs or attack/assasinate them with it.

Helps to read poster above you b4 posting. Pretty much this. With a compact hud the likes of Gopher's oHuD, aHuD, and iHuD which combined all the huds like Imp's PPA, eHud, PN, Project Recon etc etc. But I got the distinct impression not much has changed in terms of what will be displayed on the screen after seeing those pipboy shots at E3. It's going to really svck if we're still stuck with having to dig through all those screens just to check your PC vitals, etc.

The only way I would approve of a hardcoe mode in FO4 is it doesn't have any achievement or trophy for playing that mode.
