Unofficial Mafia II Thread

Just had my CE turn up today and I've just installed my new PSU to be able to handle that card. Must be the most expensive game I've ever purchased. :P

Mafia II was the topic of Adam Sessler's latest soapbox. http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/707092/Sesslers-Soapbox-Mafia-IIs-not-so-Open-World.html

Just finished this game and I have to say I am disappointed. I could live with a "sandbox with no toys" but in my opinion 10 hours of a linear campaign being all that a $50 single-player only game contains is unacceptable and if I thought it was near that I wouldn't have bothered buying it. I am also annoyed that after you finish the campaign it doesn't put you back in the game world, and since I can't save the game manually I can't really do much of anything else.

At least since i pre-ordered it I have the original Mafia, so I will play that at some point.

On another note: At the end of the demo there is the cliffhanger where you are on the bridge and get stopped by the police, does this not happen in the full game? I never experience it, maybe I didn't drive over the bridge at the correct moment or something?

On Jimmy's Vendetta:

Hopefully it is free, otherwise I won't be getting it.

I loved the game. And I think full price for 10 hours of gameplay is quite standard. Seems people gets upset because it's packaged as a sandbox game and so you expect a whole lot more. But to me Mafia II and Mafia I where linear games set in a open world, which does not make a sandbox. Most linear FPSs and adventure games can be beaten within 10 hours and are way less open than the Mafia games, so I see no point in complaining.
Loved the story and every mission. The setting was beautiful, I especially liked the early parts during winter. It made the city look really nice. To me it delivered what I expected and just as in Mafia I I found myself liking the character I'm playing than I've ever done in any other game.

Definitely game of the year (so far) for me. I even bought the delux edition witch only included 2 new pieces of clothing and 2 cars.

Beat the game two days ago. I gotta say, the story alone was worth the money.

Ending was really sad.
Spoiler
Joe's my favorite character in the game.

Endgame spoilers. Do not read unless you have completed the game.
Spoiler
I loved what they did with Leo. You actually thought he'd be a reasonable, maybe even good guy after the prison and helping him flee. But then they show you his cold side at the end. Really felt like Vito was just a pawn.

Spoiler
Showed how everyone was just out for themselves besides Vito and Joe.

I would say it was the best ending in a game for a long while but RDR beats it.

It wasn't worth it when for $50 I could have bought games that could have given me far more playtime than Mafia 2. It's a good game, but I regret paying that much money for it. I would be much more pleased with the game if it either autosaved more frequently or if it let the user quicksave. I hated getting to the end of a mission to have someone randomly kill you and having to repeat through the entire thing.

Just finished it. 28 hours. Loved every second and I'll definitely be replaying it many times in the future.
The only disappointment for me was the lack of a strong ending like in the first game. It wasn't bad in content, but I felt it wasn't executed with the force it needed.

Just got the game today during lunch at school, played it for a bit, got to chapter 7 I think and holy crap. This is good, this is really good. I'm looking forward to playing more. :)

Oh by the way, I just went to that cathouse with Joe and that other guy, once that mission was done I found my first playboy issue, then another in my apartment. Did I miss any I can't get in earlier parts? I normally don't bother with collectibles, but this one is too fun to pass up :P

Might just follow a guide at some point, not sure if I'm gonna bother wandering blindly to find them. Kudos to 2K for finally putting a collectible achievement in a game that people actually enjoy doing though :P

I just got the day this morning and played it for a couple of hours. I'm up to the part where:
Spoiler
you get out of prison.

I'm enjoying it so far, and I must say that the PC version is absolutely gorgeous.

[EDIT]:
Spoiler
Speaking of the prison part of the game, am I the only one that noticed it was basically Shawshank Redemption: The Game? The only thing missing was Morgan Freeman doing awesome narration.
