I think it would be fun to have times where we all play and maybe have defenders and attackers with a castle or something?

Just a thought.

After Notch adds damage to the Multiplayer, that is.
Which I hope is soon :(

Gah - they catch you with hidden fees in the server setup... or atleast try. We're not going to be in NY, but lets hope this is good, if not I'll send them some emails :P.

You get what you pay for. I still hit bottlenecks serverside though.

Catch scary fish!
Or possibly just regular fish.

And we've been promised biomes before... Hopefully we'll get multiplayer damage this time round.

I'm confused Undone - are you talking about kilobits or kilobytes? And if the latter that's still only 1.46 megabytes/s - which is a bit above 10megabits/s: Virgin goes up to 50?

... and we're still pending.

Kilobytes. And Virgin claims to go up to 50mb/s, but I never even hit 150kb/s. For about 2 months in the winter we were lucky to hit 20kb/s, and couldn't play anything online because the connection dropped every 2 minutes.

Quick question, how do I connect to the server? I'm a noob u c

Join Hamachi group BGSF Minecraft #4 with the password "Creeper!", then join with the IP it gives for me. Though it'll be all change as soon as the new server is up...

It would be cool if you could catch the fish and put them in a bucket then put them in a pool in/outside your house.

The torches burning out sounds like it could be a really tedious addition. And dangerous too, considering flint and steel is needed to relight them :P
I suppose it depends on how easy it will be to craft lanterns. If you end up having to rely on torches regardless it will just be a nuisance.

[censored]... torched burn out now? Oh my god. I'm doomed! The vast cavernous hallways of dwarven ness will be swarmed with monsters. I r doomed!!!! From the sounds of it lanterns are harder to make, and I'm going to guess right now paper is required. I call shenanigans dwarves do not use [censored] paper lanterns okay? Even if theres a way to get an infinite torch that costs like 4 coal for a torch I would prefer to use that.

Edit
It seems like a nuisance already.

I guess that'll be the end of using torches as decoration... Shame. But it'll be interesting.

I'd say the most logical crafting recipe would require iron and glass, and something in the middle. A torch, or coal or something. If iron is used, though, it definitely needs to be made more common imho.
Either way, it need not be detrimental. It's just my 'this could potentially be a really bad idea' sense is tingling :P

Strange - I hit server-side bottlenecks but that's all, if I test the bandwidth I have I hit the 50 without any problems, normally a bit above. However their infrastructure is somewhat shambolic.

We're still pending >.<

I would suspect paper and torch to make a lantern. Or Iron and a torch. Oh and he is planning to change all existing torches into lanterns, and then the "new" torches will be added to the game. Thus our hard work is not all shot to hell right off the bat. Stock up people, we don't know how gay it is going to be to make lanterns. Oh and he is confirming changing the torch recipe so the current torch ID will get a new recipe and a new model/texture (the lantern). Then the new torches will get their own ID and behave like they are supposed to. This is to prevent people with under ground lairs from being totally screwed over. With this in mind I don't mind the change so much. Also I have a sudden urge to smelt a crap ton of glass. Hahaha!

Since the current torches will turn into lanterns then I suddenly don't mind at all.

Dunno, but I built an arena for all of us (and with the help of Undone and Saurok to put lava at the bottom of it).

That's nice and all, but the balancing comes up when you're starting a new game. And that isn't exactly an insignificant issue :P
And not just for new players. Considering the game is still being worked on it's as the Minecraft homepage says: don't get too attached to your saves just yet.

How much time are we going to spend re-lighting torches? How long are we even going to be using torches? Are torches going to be at all useful, or is it just going to waste an item space? These are all questions that need an answer. I suppose we'll see what those answers are once the update rolls in.
