Welcome to the realm of Therradale; a land once filled with peace and wonder now turned to ash and salt. We are some of the few allowed to escape this harrowing ordeal, while the King tries to hold the great Citadel against invading forces we were intrusted to start anew in the far away lands. Whether you were a richly trader or a lower street urchin in the old lands, he you are all the same. We shall found our great kingdom once again; and it shall all start with the city of Aldgate! With all law enforcement stretched thin, few agents of the law were able to accompany you during the grand journey to the new world and fewer survived the journey. The state can provide some services: it runs the towns and banks, but the wilderness is lawless and outlaws run rule during the night. With the army battling on multiple fronts, crime is often punished by personal retribution, while punishment for crimes against the empire are often left to the whim of vicious mercenaries. Which route do you choose? The outlaw ruler, the wealthy entrepreneur, or the money-chasing mercenary? With enough wealth and power, the King himself may take notice, or maybe, just maybe, you could rise above him in these new untold lands.

Rules and Ethics

Due to the lawless nature of the land, few actions are frowned upon, and even fewer prevented. The only crime that will have you expelled from the world, by bandits and townsmen alike is to cause persistent grief to an individual or members of a city without cause of any sort. Stealing is frowned upon, and if found taking from another man, you shall be jailed for a duration variable based on your crime. Repeated offenders will be branded as outlaws and removed from the city. Bounties may be placed on the destruction of an outlaw's base; be wary of the consequences of attacking the held laws. If you are considered a known bandit you shall be arrested upon entrance to a lawful city and jailed. Here you may chose to relinquish your possessions and destroy any wilderness buildings you own in favour of leading a city life. Otherwise, after your jail location, you shall be blindfolded and released as the dinner for a wolf.

The creation of an unlawful city is considered a direct affront to any lawful cities, as well as an act of war. Any affiliation with such a state will result in harsh consequences if you are discovered by true agents of the king.

To trade within an agent run city you must have lawful residence; this is counted as both a permanent residence, or an active room at the inn. The inn functions as a way for travelers to buy and sell within the city, as well as a means of unknown bandits to trade their goods with the rest of the world. However if a bandit is caught staying at an inn, he shall be imprisoned, and the inkeeper will face considerable penalties.

All owners of Commercial Plots shall receive a daily income from contributing to the town's economy - certain plots also allow for exclusive trade rights.

Without a Commercial plot all trading must be completed via signs. Signs placed within Aldgate's market square have a placement cost - all illegally placed signs shall be removed, and the owned fined. It is not legal, wherever in the world you may be, to trade via the main chat channel. You may only trade via signs. It is, of course, up to yourself to place signs wherever you may wish - however discovered trading with a bandit will mark you as one.

The only way one can establish a legal city is to buy the right from an agent of the law. All prices for plots of land are detailed at Aldgate's Town Hall. For information on bank storage please contact the legally aligned authority.

It is illegal to mine within the city walls unless you have purchased the mines, in which case you can, but may not infringe on the properties of residents.

If you are jailed you must not use /spawn to escape from the jail. This is primarily and RP server, so some things have to be self enforced. Using /spawn under these conditions, or to escape if being chased by the law, will result in a ban.

NO FIRES!
NO TNT!

All that is left is for you, dear adventurer, to forge this new land into something unforgettable.

A more mundane section:
What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a creative sandbox game centered around exploration and survival; exploring and gathering resources allows you to protect yourself against a variety of beasties that hunt you down during the night. The creative sandbox elements of the game fuel your want to survive and gather, which in turn allow you to build many wonderful creations. Basic fluid physics also provide interesting means of creating basic machines.

Server Details

As the BGSF is the center of all good in the gaming world, we have appropriately set up a server - this server is accessible via a Hamachi network (this is to avoid port forwarding problems, as well as to provide complete transparency as to who can connect to the server). Below you shall find details on how to connect to the server, as well as how to set up Hamachi.

Hamachi is a neat and free networking tool that creates a virtual local network, allowing gaming communities to connect to servers with minimal port related problems - it also allows the network admin to selectively admit people to the network, greatly reducing the chance of griefers destroying our server. No registration is required; all one has to do is download the hamachi client for free.https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi2/download.aspx. Download the unmanaged client and install. Once Hamachi is installed and started you will notice 3 tabs at the top of its GUI. Click the 'Network' tab and then 'Join an existing network'. When presented with the connection dialogue enter the username and password below. You will not be admitted immediately - all new users must be manually accepted.

A note for Mac users: You can run both Minecraft and Hamachi on OSX, however I am unable to provide a guide as to how to use Hamachi. To my knowledge it is currently in a beta state for OS' other than windows, without full GUI functionality.

Hamachi Details:
Network Name: BGSF Minecraft | BGSF Minecraft #2 | BGSF Minecraft #3
Password: Creeper!

Server Details:
IP: 5.140.149.202
Port: 25565

Server OPs: (these persons can ban, teleport (if you are bugged in some strange way) and refund items lost to the furnace bug)
Wampbit
SuperPete (Monkey Hybrid)
Undone

To connect to the server start up Minecraft, click on multiplayer, and enter the IP and port in the input box in the format: "IP : Port". You will fail to connect once or twice before entering the server for the first time - this is an unsolved server bug and will hopefully be fixed soon. Only contact me for support if you have tried disabling your security system/firewall as well as made multiple attempts at joining. If you have I shall try and troubleshoot the problem as soon as I can. You will only be able to connect to the server if you are part of the Hamachi network!

I'm creating a Spleef arena in Torhemn. :)

Using lots of halfblocks and glass. Any ideas on how to create the bottom is welcome.

http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Spleef it's a fun minecraft game.

The bottom could be filled with water, or a hole which leads to another opening to no contestant can cheat. Therefore there would be a main entrance which contestants use to get to the main arena, and one exit when they fall down.

Am I the only person that finds MCEdit horrifically difficult to use? All I want to do is delete a 20x20x10 set of blocks :(

MCEdit is a pain to use until you understand it, once you have a grasp of how it works it's lightning fast - don't think delete, think copy air.

[edit]: also add Undone to the server OP list in the OP.

It seems damn near impossible to just select the blocks I want to remove though. At this rate I'd be quicker doing it in-game :|

Switch between the follow-the-camera selection and the mouse selection (right-click). A bit of practice and selections are extremely fast, unless you want to remove single blocks here and there, which isn't nearly as fast.

I'm not entirely sure why they've gone for such an esoteric selection method, but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

I build "by hand". What I just used MCEdit for was to clear a large area underground to build a house in for my single player. I think I'm actually going for a pretty unique concept.

I'm going to try building a whole property and garden underground. I'm then going to use torches (lots and lots of torches) "outside" to simulate sunlight, which will be uncovered/blocked off by logic circuits. There will be a master switch for all the lights, as well as sub-circuits to control the "daylight" coming into each room. I may even have it on a timer to automatically toggle between day and night, though ideally I'd have a series of triggering shutters (steel doors, I'm thinking) which simulate the sun rise/set.

I'm calling it revision for my digital system design course next semester.

I'm doing it in single player. Like hell I'd risk someone trashing that in multi :P

The problem with building anything large-scale underground though is I keep breaking through into caves, which I then HAVE to explore!

We were originally building the walls for Aldgate in MCEdit, which looked quite a lot more awesome (cobblestone cladding, depth with only a few specific underground entry points, walkways, towers), but the whole things ended up corrupting the save :P. As a result we just went and built it in-game :P

Neither yet, be patient. We're still $5 short, but it's on the way - for now I'm seeing if I can neatly upload the files. I doubt you'll have any MP tonight.
