Rules for Conduct and Discussion Within this Topic:

* All discussions regarding server administration and decisions must take place at: http://www.jamieep.co.uk/forums/index.php
* Any discussion regarding the running of the server is forbidden within this thread, and will be considered in breach of the CD rules.
* Any discussion regarding your activities within the BGSF community server, any other Minecraft server or a Single-Player world is allowed within this thread.
* Any other Minecraft related discussion that is in accordance with the BGSF CD rules is allowed within this thread.

Important Notice for all those Interested in the Server and its Status:

Admins - These people act as a House of Lords to the decision making process; they are able to veto decisions that they would consider detrimental or negative to the health of the server, however most decisions made by the Council will be passed. They will also maintain the server and have the final say in issues regarding moderating.
Wampbit
Bonemonster
Undone
Mrtankjump

Mods - TBD powers.

Council - Decision making representatives of the player-base. These members are put forward by the players to represent them, but the final decision on appointment falls on the Admins and existing council members. Except in extreme conditions, the decision of this group will determine any changes to the server.
Council Members:
Simpsonfly
LEGOGOD
Gamemastr
Skoomaholic
Povuhulo

To see council debates refer to Jamies forums and the suggestion board in the Admin Tower.

All discussions of the above must take place at http://www.jamieep.co.uk/forums/index.php - any discussion pertaining to the issues raised here, and other server issues are not suitable for the BGSF, and shall be reported, as stated in the rules for this thread. Know that we intend to change the server for the better, how this change will manifest is still undecided, but a degree of decisive action must be taken, unlike the laissez-faire approach to administration we have gradually approached.

What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a creative sandbox game centered around exploration and survival; exploring and gathering resources allows you to protect yourself against a variety of beasties that hunt you down during the night. The creative sandbox elements of the game fuel your want to survive and gather, which in turn allow you to build many wonderful creations. Basic fluid physics also provide interesting means of creating basic machines. The multiplayer is very similar to the single-player, just with more people. Right now neither enemies nor damage function, however an update fixing this will be arriving shortly.

The Nether is pretty useless at this time. Are there any mods that make it better?

Other than killing ghasts and collecting glow dust...there isn't much to do.

I was wondering if there was any mods you guys would recommend that would better the Nether.

I don't know any good mods. But I agree it needs a few more materials collect.

Well I usually qualify Netherrack as Dirt
Soulsand as well sand
and glowstone as iron/gold

What it needs is a stone and diamond counterpart.

Maybe two more hostile mobs and a few passive ones aswell. With unique drops of course.

Q: What is this share map thing?
A: A Minecraft share map is a singleplayer map that one person plays at a time. They have a set amount of time to play it, and when they're done, they upload the map for the next player in the queue. Rinse and repeat. That way, you have a single world with a shared creative vision without the multiplayer.

Q: So why don't you just do a multiplayer map instead?
A: Every player is different. Some prefer to play solo, some can't really handle the multiplayer and some like to have a singleplayer map to complement their online servers. This is just another creative outlet.

Q: How long will I get the map for?
A: Players opted for 1 week with this first rotation, but we've agreed that is too long. Each player will have it for 48 hours once we start round 2.

Q: Are there any special rules?A: Not really, other than don't be a dink. If you do, we'll just revert to a previous save and bar you from the rotation. The only big rule we ask is to please play on 'Peaceful' because we wish to preserve the built structures. Other than that, simple etiquette takes over. If you use things, try to replace some or all of it. Leave resources for the next player. Don't destroy their creations, even if they don't meet your standards.

Q: How can I download/upload the map?
When you download the map, it will have instructions along with it. Just follow them to unzip the save to your %appdata%/.minecraft folder, change the name of the folder, then start the game up. For uploading, use your favorite zipping program to package the save folder and instructions up, then upload them to a file hosting service of your choice. There's lots out there, like http://www.4shared.com/ or http://www.megaupload.com and more.

Q: Can I be a part of this?
A: Of course. Just post in this thread that you want to join, and you'll be added to the end of the queue. If you've got specific time criteria you need met, we'll try to work with you.

I just finished a bridge that connects the city landmass to a southern one. That was a lot more work than I thought it would be, it took a handful of hours and septimes to complete. At least now that people who live on that side don't have to hop across the water anymore.

With that project finished, I'm gonna call it a night.

If you have Windows Vista/7, you can pull the folder from a system restore point.
Don't remember for Vista, but for Windows 7, just right-click the folder and go to 'Properties', then 'Previous Versions'.

Also, remember to back up your maps every now and then.

You could try right clicking on the file that you overwrote the map with. Otherwise I don't know what to tell you.

Sounds more to me like Notch just caught a bug. There's nothing to indicate Valve said or did anything to him.

Oh wow. I wonder how many nasty emails the Valve staff are going to get from something completely unrelated that happened to Notch.
