If the 1.5 software is there, why not just download it and be done with it? The servers down 3-4 players now until 1.5-6 server software updates are installed >_>

I agree. You could try to message Tank about it. Not sure he would change his mind though.

Eh, tank seldom comes on. You're right, I doubt Tank'd install the 1.5 software updates just for us. I just hate being alone on single player :c

It looks like a 64x64 pack. There's not too many of those so if you check http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=12352&sid=204b573e23b9894e9584ef53cedd34df#2 you should be able to find it.

256 x 256? Oh snap. I'm gonna try that bad boy out.

Yeah single player has been a little lonely.

Its just nice to not have to worry about griefing, and have an entire world that hasn't been explored, unlike the server.

Well if we didnt have to worry about the file size I'm pretty sure we could find some unexplored areas....

From what I've seen the quality of the texture packs decreases the higher resolution you go, if that makes any sense. The larger ones tend to be less stylistic and more copy/paste from web images with a bit of detail added. Anything above 64x64 isn't really worth your time, with maybe one or two exceptions.

I skimmed over some screenshots of one high-res texture pack a while back that was a WIP. It looks like he might have been putting some real effort into it. Can't remember where I saw it though.

I found a really good Mob HD pack. With a 1024x512 texture for the creeper, Zombie and Skeleton. Slimes have a 640x320.

stuff like painterly, quandry, piehole, stuff that is 16x is probably the best. there's some 32x packs like tronic (http://evilmousestudios.com/tronic/) which are good but anything 64x+ is usually pretty terrible. Though to be fair there are a lot of terrible 16x packs as well

Misa's is a good 64x64 pack (minus the meh wood planks)
John Smiths is a superb 32x32.
And tronic is awesome. Doubt i'd use it all the time though..

I'd have to say that 32x32 packs are the best. I've used many 16x16, but none of them ever really stunned me.

I'm currently using a 64x64 but will probably switch back to John Smith's.

I think i'm using the John Smith one right now. I can see what you mean about the quality. It seems like they really didn't think about how the textures would sit next to each other.

I wonder how difficult it would be for Notch to add in transitional blocks. Im thinking, when you break them they have a 50% chance of being one or the other material.

Not likely. Texture transitions are hard enough to do in two dimensions, much less three. It would probably require ten times the number of tiles the game currently uses.

To everyone wanting to know when the server is gonna update:

A LOT goes into updating the server and it can take hours sometime. Its a lot of work. Not to mention that a lot of times certain files need to be re-written, by hand, like the config-files for certain plugins. A config file is a lot more difficult than it sounds, one actually has to input code into the file, use a parser (from a third party source), rewrite it and then upload to the server and THEN see if its actually gonna work correctly.

Also, 1.6 is mainly a bugfix update and a lot can go wrong with bugfix updates. Remember the debacle from the 1.2 update? It changed lighting and forced a map change because the fixes didn't work on already explored land. ( I won't mention the chaos that created the BGSFS Council)

While I would really like to play 1.5 on the server I think its a good idea to wait since the updates are so close together and that one is a bugfix update.

I understand where you're coming from, but I think the thing that's bugging people is that there still isn't a release date for 1.6, meaning we don't know if we'll be waiting a week or a month.

Regardless, if you guys think we should wait, it's probably for the best. Hopefully won't be too long of a wait.

I just talked to Tank. He is sick in bed. He says that he will try and update the server to 1.5 tomorrow.

Aww damn... I was about to rant about why the server is not updated but now I understand. Get well Tank. Take your time.

I'm glad that I got back into single player. I used to hate it, but now it makes me feel really creative.

So it wont be the end of the world if the server isn't updated anytime soon.

It's a bad pic, Misa 64x64 is fine. :P

Might switch to that Rustic pack though, that looks nice...

That's the one that I'm currently using. The only thing I don't like about it is that it uses the default tool textures.
