Trippy. Between the Big Daddies, splicers, and backstabbers murdering you the rain is behaving like the water is air. At least you'll have something besides gravity to tell you what direction is up.

Bleh, someone thought it would be "funny" to flood a construction area that only had torches for lighting. He placed about 6 water blocks above it which extinguished all the lights. The next day I found about 6 creepers had thus made the remaining dry parts their home. They exploded, broke the glass ceiling above them and flooded about half of the city. :swear:

On second thought I don't want to work on the sharemap at this given moment. Sorry about being late about it.

Ok then, guess it's my turn. I really, really don't have time to work on it but there is one or two things I want to add, so I'll get that done quickly and upload the map early. Don't know when exactly, but most likely sometime Sunday.

Edit: On second thought, I'll use the fact that I have until Tuesday to my advantage and just space out working on the map. Hopefully I'll be able to do some more stuff in it this way. I may still wind up uploading it early though, but I can't say for sure.

I'm pretty curious about this single player map you guys have been playing on in turns. Could someone post a few screenshots of it?

Sure, I'll go take a few pictures.

Zombe's Flymod is very useful for this kind of thing.

I didn't take a picture of everything on the map, I just tried to fit as much as I could into as few pictures as possible so you could get a general idea of what the map's like.
On a side note, I love how this map is getting harder and harder to separate into it's individual builders. The main town, for example, has had a number of different additions and changes from various people and it's getting to the point where the final look of most things is the result of multiple people's contributions.

Edit: Added the correct link for the nether base picture

That's so awesome. If we ever have to switch SMP maps, I'm going to download the current one and do that to it. :P

It feels like people are less willing to edit with these shorter turn lengths, due to other commitments and considerations. And that's fine, but it catches people downstream by surprise. We may want to look at some fixes to the scheduling... Like:

a ) Compromise on the time frame - if 1 week was too long and 2 days is too short, perhaps 4 days is the answer.
b ) Set schedules - lay out in the info thread precisely when people start their turns. So I might be able to say I get it May 7th at 9AM GMT and have to give it up by May 10th at the same time, and Nuck has to give it up at the same time May 13th, etc etc.

Most assuredly

Two days to edit it does definitely stress me out a bit. We might try for three days instead, and then try four if that doesn't work. Because right now four seems a bit too long, especially considering the size of the list.

I would love to have a set schedule, though a problem would arise when people forfeit their turn. We would have an empty spot in the schedule where nobody is editing, but moving everybody in the schedule up would cause the same chaos it's causing now. I think that we should either let the person who last had the map edit it for another 3 days to fill the gap, or just leave the gap as it is and have nobody editing it. But we can't just move everybody up.

I am running both finite liquids and buildercraft. Both very good mods and both add different types of pipes. I can now pipe everything I want to any part of my base, just started work on the piping infrastructure though, lots of planning it seems.

I recommend both, though don't touch diamond pipes from buildercraft atm as they are broken.

How about we do this with the shared map.

Before every turn, the people who want the next turn post, and we give the map to whoever has been waiting the longest.

So it'd be like this:

1. Antibody's turn begins.
2. Mr.E, Ratwar, and dudeordudet want the next turn.
3. Since Mr.E has been waiting the longest, he wins.
4. Antibody's turn ends
5. Mr. E's turn begins.

Also, for anyone who wants to get a feel for the shared map, I suggest you download it and play it to just look around.

Wouldn't everyone be waiting the longest at one point or another?

Yes? That's kind of the reason for the plan. If everyone didn't have a point where they were waiting the longest, not everyone would get the map.

But it's a circulating list, as it would be with your plan. It'd be just the same, with people waiting for their next spot in line.

Yes, but the difference is that it is far easier to skip. That's the main problem we're having. If you don't have time to edit during your slot, it throws everything off.

I get what Ratwar's saying. It's much akin to what we're doing now, except on a continual opt-in basis rather than the opt-out basis we currently have with our set list.

I'm willing to try that or the set schedule - the latter could have open times that people sign up for. So if someone wants to sign up for one turn every two weeks, all the power to them. If they want one turn every month only, that's fine too.

Either method will allow for the people that want to be more active to have the share map more often, which is good. Ratwar's proposal would probably have the fastest turnarounds.

So basically, when it would come time to claim the next turn, everyone on the list who is available to edit puts their name in. Once everyone has thrown their hat into the ring, whoever is available and has also been waiting for the longest time gets the next turn. And because not everybody will be available all the time, the people who haven't been waiting as long will still have a chance as long as nobody who has waited longer is available. And once the people who have been waiting the longest are available, then they can say so and because they've been waiting so long, they'll get the next turn.

I like the idea, but we'd need to still combine it with a set schedule, at least for when the next turn will start. So for example:

1. Mr. E gets the map
2. His turn is set to run from Tuesday to Friday, so the next turn out be from Friday to Monday.
3. mrcrazy_monkey would normally be next, but he can't play during that time so he doesn't sign up for the next round.
4A. dudeordudet?, Nuck and the fishy wanderer are all available and because dudeordudet? has been waiting the longest, they get the next turn.
4B. Alternatively, absolutely no-one on the list other than the fishy wanderer said they were available, so even though he just had the map a few turns ago, he gets the next turn anyway because he was the only one who signed up.

I think that'd work pretty well. In the event of someone ending their turn early, we could extend the beginning of the next turn to be even earlier, and keep the original end of the next turn, so that the schedule stays intact.

Okay, so how about this:

- Turns last 3 days, and will always end at midnight GMT (7PM EST). That includes all the time to acknowledge your turn, download, edit, and upload.
- Players opt in to edit and are assigned a turn at the end of the queue. Once someone is done editing, they are also added to the end of the queue.
- If someone cannot take their assigned turn, they shall relinquish it (the earlier the better). Anyone after them in the queue may jump in and claim that "free" spot, vacating their previous spot. (Which someone else can later claim, too.) If a spot goes unclaimed, the previous editor gets the benefit of a double turn.

Example: (The tentative schedule, using the current list of opt-ins)

Spoiler
Apr 30-May 2: Antibody
May 3-5: Mr.E
May 6-8: dudeordudet
May 9-11: Nuck
May 12-14: Webster
May 15-17: The Gate Keeper
May 18-20: Ratwar
May 21-23: The Greatness

(Gamemastr, mrcrazy_monkey and the fishy wanderer have all skipped their turns, thereby opting out)

So, if I decide I want to skip my turn now, it'd look like this:

Spoiler
Apr 30-May 2: Antibody
May 3-5:
May 6-8: dudeordudet
May 9-11: Nuck
May 12-14: Webster
May 15-17: The Gate Keeper
May 18-20: Ratwar
May 21-23: The Greatness

At which point Ratwar could claim my spot:

Spoiler
Apr 30-May 2: Antibody
May 3-5: Ratwar
May 6-8: dudeordudet
May 9-11: Nuck
May 12-14: Webster
May 15-17: The Gate Keeper
May 18-20:
May 21-23: The Greatness

...And mrcrazy_monkey could claim Ratwar's, and when I come back to opt in again, I'd get added on at the end:

Spoiler
Apr 30-May 2: Antibody
May 3-5: Ratwar
May 6-8: dudeordudet
May 9-11: Nuck
May 12-14: Webster
May 15-17: The Gate Keeper
May 18-20: mrcrazy_monkey
May 21-23: The Greatness
May 24-26: Mr.E

The benefit here, of course, is that there are no sudden surprises - you know when you're going and can plan for it. And if you want to go earlier, you'll have that option.

Edit: I know all this talk about turn semantics is a tad off-putting for some, but the goal is to eliminate confusion and conflict later on...

Sounds good. So I'm assuming that if someone finishes their turn early, the map just goes unedited until the next turn begins?

Or the next person can start early and get an extended turn. I'd be fine with either scenario.
