Okay, so how about this:
- Turns last 3 days, and will always end at midnight GMT (7PM EST). That includes all the time to acknowledge your turn, download, edit, and upload.
- Players opt in to edit and are assigned a turn at the end of the queue. Once someone is done editing, they are also added to the end of the queue.
- If someone cannot take their assigned turn, they shall relinquish it (the earlier the better). Anyone after them in the queue may jump in and claim that "free" spot, vacating their previous spot. (Which someone else can later claim, too.) If a spot goes unclaimed, the previous editor gets the benefit of a double turn.
Example: (The tentative schedule, using the current list of opt-ins)
Spoiler Apr 30-May 2: Antibody
May 3-5: Mr.E
May 6-8: dudeordudet
May 9-11: Nuck
May 12-14: Webster
May 15-17: The Gate Keeper
May 18-20: Ratwar
May 21-23: The Greatness
(Gamemastr, mrcrazy_monkey and the fishy wanderer have all skipped their turns, thereby opting out)
So, if I decide I want to skip my turn now, it'd look like this:
Spoiler Apr 30-May 2: Antibody
May 3-5:
May 6-8: dudeordudet
May 9-11: Nuck
May 12-14: Webster
May 15-17: The Gate Keeper
May 18-20: Ratwar
May 21-23: The Greatness
At which point Ratwar could claim my spot:
Spoiler Apr 30-May 2: Antibody
May 3-5: Ratwar
May 6-8: dudeordudet
May 9-11: Nuck
May 12-14: Webster
May 15-17: The Gate Keeper
May 18-20:
May 21-23: The Greatness
...And mrcrazy_monkey could claim Ratwar's, and when I come back to opt in again, I'd get added on at the end:
Spoiler Apr 30-May 2: Antibody
May 3-5: Ratwar
May 6-8: dudeordudet
May 9-11: Nuck
May 12-14: Webster
May 15-17: The Gate Keeper
May 18-20: mrcrazy_monkey
May 21-23: The Greatness
May 24-26: Mr.E
The benefit here, of course, is that there are no sudden surprises - you know when you're going and can plan for it. And if you want to go earlier, you'll have that option.
Edit: I know all this talk about turn semantics is a tad off-putting for some, but the goal is to eliminate confusion and conflict later on...
