I like this idea. Plus, I'm partial to a HUGE OCEAN and a few islands. World edit would be perfect for this.

I've been looking around a lot for a seed that creates a map with mostly ocean and some small islands, but as far as I can tell nobody has discovered one like that yet. I think you guys would definitely have to use some sort of editing program to get a map like that.

Huge oceans with many islands would be great :D :D

We also need to let the city grow naturally, we messed up when we planned way to far ahead with this one.

I'm rather partial to the "Huge Ocean" idea myself. However, for it to be effective, the ocean itself would need to be very large and very deep, maybe to around 20-25 from bedrock, and be at least 6 horizons wide.

Also, can anyone say "volcanic island"?

If that volcano has bad habit to explode and scatter lava all over the island :D

Just as long as the Islands are fairly sized, im all for the idea. It will be like The Windwaker!!!

"A great corruption fell over the Main City that had been built over Torhemn, slowly beginning. Some say it was the dark magics of Lord Hiomaste at work, he plotting his return to the world. Suddenly, the sky crackled with thunder. Centuries of rain fell upon the world, flooding it with the wrath of Wampbit."

An ocean world, eh? Sounds cool, but I'm 100% sure most of the people in the server are against it. Just think about it, we've been building all kinds of stuff in the server and we would lose all of it...
But if we really would change the map, it should change in style. An apocalyptic way.

Why would you have to go back towards the main city?

All our houses? I know not everyone's main house is in the city but it would make a long walk to get our stuff unless you guys have more houses than I think.
Even though I will miss my towers. I favor a new map , a combination of maybe a volcano , jungles and some sort of port.
The only thing that will be difficult is getting materials again. Also , did mods corrupt the previous save? I think that is what tank said.
To add on , if changing the spawn point might be a temporary solution in the first place.

Heres a quote for you, mainly directed at shop users and us admins:

I recently crossed this line while playing Minecraft. I love sandbox games, I love exploration, I love building - it was a perfect fit. It was a uniquely rewarding challenge digging into "my world" for resources and riches, fending off evil critters, and using the spoils to build whatever I wanted.

And then I discovered the many player-made add-ons. Suddenly, I could create a 3D map of my world, including its caves and resources. Now, finding those treasures was a lot easier. But then there were the inventory editors, and I found I could just create what I wanted from thin air.

Then I found a mod that would let me fly. Now it was easier to get to those snowy peaks, or out of those spooky caverns... only now there was no reason to dig those caverns, and no particular hurry to reach those peaks. The next mountain was full of unnecessary work, rather than brimming with potential. The mining was what had spurred the exploration and sense of wonder, and I'd set my pickaxe aside. Now that I'd sampled this god-like power, could I really go back to digging with those ancient tools, earning by effort what I could simply conjure with ease?

As it turns out, yes, I could. A couple weeks off, and I put the cheats away and went back to digging with friends. Thankfully, we're never quite beyond redemption.

I agree, I've been saying this since the start of the server.
Overall I think we should start up a new map, have as many people as possible involved from the start and we should build to a certain theme like others have said. We should discuss this theme at Jamie's and eventually hold a vote. This time no city plans and no flat grid for a city. BTW I am fully in favour of an ocean map or a desert map. Something extreme really.

The problem with an ocean city is that it is quite limiting on what we can do with it.

I'd like a city next to a huge ocean and desert.

I agree with skooma above me , unfornueatly I can't quote or have proper grammer on the phone. I think now we should invest into the seeds forums. If you don't know what I mean we should look into the official minecraft forums for answer and more descriptive their seeds sub section

Anyone ever wanted to spawn inside a spider dungeon?

here is the seed: 3666440496532277820

Some sites we should check out for seeds:
http://www.reddit.com/r/minecraftseeds/
http://www.minecraftseeds.info/
http://minecraft-seeds.net/
http://www.minecraftnews.net/showthread.php?679-Your-minecraft-seeds.

Seriously, try that seed I posted.

Also, try "Bonemonster". There is a HUGE OCEAN surrounding a rather large island which has a few smaller islands around it but there is a continent past the snow biome. The snow biome rests in the middle of the spawn island and is MASSIVE.

Good to see people are checking some seeds.ill check them later. At least our nether problem might be resolved but the tunnel to aulis took a long time and it seems a lot of our work is all gone.

I'm not sure that you understand what's going on exactly. The area inside the city is corrupted, we don't know what's causing it yet, though it is possible it could be mods, but if you go too far into the city, you will lag to the point of not being able to play, and then be disconnected from the server. The reason we're wanting to change the spawn point is because the area around spawn is so laggy it's almost impossible to get away from it. This will be the reason we change maps if we find that there's no way to fix it.

Not to mention that it has been reported to be spreading to the other districts. Of course it isn't going to spread if the chunk isn't loaded, but if it is spreading then going into the city could make it spread into other chunks. We are still not sure if this section of the map is the only corrupted section or if it is just coincidence that it appeared in that area. If there is more than one chunk that is corrupted then we may never know when we'll run into one.

It very well could be version 1.5 itself doing this, it wouldn't be the first time that major bugs have come with an update. If it is 1.5 then the entire map may corrupt over time. We'll just have to keep an eye on Notch's blog and twitter. Last time we switched maps it was because of some "personal choices" that were made but unknown to us was the fact that the newest update at the time required a map switch. A map switch may be required in order to be fully compatible with 1.5 but that is unlikely or Notch would have said something.

Then again, he isn't the best developer.

Personally, I don't see a new map being a problem, all we'd need to do is start over. It'll be like we're on the new frontiers of Minecraft :disguise:

We probably be organised for if we get the new map.

Food, mining, defense (We aren't using MCedit to make the wall.) housing and the central building.

Can we use WorldEdit to make the wall shine? Currently they city has luminous walls thanks to some brilliant engineering by Tank.

We could also use WorldEdit to define our map more to our preferences.

Huge ocean? Check

Big island surrounded by little islands? Check

Deep oceans? Check.

Make an NPC of Skooma detailing his life as a drug addict peddling moon sugar? Check.

Might be a good idea to wait until 1.6 (+ the first bugfixes after it) until starting a new map just in case the problem is related to 1.5.

Notch has stated that the 1.6 update is "Not soon". Which could mean "next year". (a little over exaggerating I know)

Ha :P
But I am not sure how the corruption is spreading. But finding a ideal spawn point that goes along with everyone's interest is impossible. It is all up to our lovely admins. Then again we should really think about this decision. We don't want to into it without thinking whatsoever. One of the most pinnacle places in our map is being swallowed , we have limited options. Maybe relocating to vegaville might be a temporary solution.

Our new spawn point could be Aulis, it's pretty populated and safe.
