Uh... use a bare bones D20 system? Give ourselves stats? http://www.d20srd.org/ For simplicities sake let's leave out skills and only be level 1 so we can calculate our attack and damage. Then if we die well then there you have it. If we wear armour it will be treated as full plate no matter what type is worn for simplicity. Also we won't roll for stats but use a point buy. Naturally some stats will be less useful than other initially but I'm sure if people like the idea we can add more depth. http://www.hackslash.net/?p=73 Use a 25 point buy. Meaning you can have any number of stats so long as you don't go over 25 points in use. Also lowest number is 8 and highest 18. If we want to use the full system it would be much easier to arbitrate a siege as well since we couldn't just magically mine through the walls, but would have to use the climb skill or anything we can think of to get in. While adding more depth and keeping all stats relevant it would add some complexity.

Assuming anyone at all is interested. Also no leveling up we are all level 1 if we agree to do this. Hahaha.

We can wait... that's why its a siege.

For what? Damage is delayed until Beta, which wont be until "some time". And it's not like we can poison their water or block off resource supplies :P

Gamgee, make it work and I'm in :P

We would need someone to be a Game Master so they can settle rules disputes. It would however be quite entertaining, and I know the system enough and have played the game long enough that it wouldn't be too hard for me to help newbies out. So I am one candidate, but I would need at least one other and preferably not in an eastern time zone. So we can settle disputes at other time zones. The system is modular so if we do not want magic classes just remove them. Ect. It is entirely up to everyone here, but I can help people create characters. There is also free online websheets we can use to have a big list of players.

Edit
Here is the free sheet hosting if people are interested. http://www.myth-weavers.com/forumhome.php

Edit2
There are online dice rollers that store the rolls. We could use the honour system (lol) or I can make a thread on a forum with a dice roller and we can roll there. It's all up to you guys. We have the resources and capability.

I've gotta rule myself out right away. I don't have time to be moderating this kind of thing right now, with exams and reports over the next month. My main concern is of people saying "but you didn't hit me!" or some such excuse. There's not even a damage animation for getting hit, so sometimes it could be hard to judge. But, if you can get past that and make it work, I'm all for it.

I never said you would have to be a game master. -_- Just asking for volunteers in other time zones. If you want to feel restricted to an eastern time zone that's fine, but it would be only a brief window to get fighting done while I'm on. That is all I am saying. Hahaha.

Also they wouldn't attack in game and then that would count as a hit. I know that's more fun but the system isn't in place. No they use their stats duke it out through some dice rolls, and when a winner is determined then they can act it out in game and advance the plot. It's the only way I can see it working. It also means I don't have to be visibly watching 20 fights a minute if everyone just shows me their rolls or tells me them.

Hey, no griefing. We're fighting over control of Neo Montreal, not to see who can destroy it fastest.

EDIT: I was just ruling myself out :P If we can do it all by dice rolls in an easy to judge manner then it should work pretty well.

It only works if everyone agrees to the system. So no more diamond picking your way into a fortress. You have to make a climb check ect. You can only swim so long before "drowning". I don't know how we will handle charisma and persuasion checks though. I think it would be pretty [censored] if a dice roll was all that allowed someone into a castle. It really depends on what you guys want. Having a high Int means more skills to train in ect. Higher strength means a greater chance of ending a fight quickly. It's all up to you. Also its modular system don't like wizards? None gone, don't like other races? Pull the plug ect.

Great plan Gamgee.

I'm in. I'm not sure if I will be playing Minecraft today. And if I do, I'm not planning to stay long.

edit - We should delay all this until people have made their mind.

Also I know right now I will not be able to see every single friggen role. I have to have some self moderation built into the system for it to work or I will go insane arbitrating so much battles. Only the really tricky rulings should be brought to me. The simple stuff should be between the players. I have two votes of support for this idea. The more I know people like this idea the faster we can get making characters and all the boring paper work out of the way. If people don't like this idea please speak up so I can know and try plan something else. I'm not sure if I will allow people to opt out of the system or not. I need to know though if anyone thinks this is a bad idea or they just aren't feeling it.

If you don't feel like posting let me know via a private message. I'll give it a day for now until I discuss this in further detail to see if people are interested. Though I think the actual vote to see if people like this idea will last at least a few.

Well, if we download the AIM chat client we can use http://magintta.com/
It is what we use to use on AOL for online dice roleplay in chatrooms.

With a chatroom we could all be in it at once and there wouldn't be any dispute over rolls.

BTW, Magintta is god awful old. I think Magintta 8 came out in 1999. or somewhere around there.

Guess that means your in then bone? Also I think it would be easier to just use a browser based roller. Theres a fairly popular one I am trying to remember the name of. I know it updates in real time as well. We could use either or.

Magintta is a relic after all. Man, the nostalgia. I earned enough experience for 6d100 and enough gold for a +5d100 weapon enhancer.... so I was hitting with a total of 11d100. yes, I was a bad ass.

Meh. Invisible castle http://invisiblecastle.com/ is more accessible to us. Granted I have never used it before but I will go over it and see how it works.

haha. i just found myspace pages for The Castle of Fate (the realm I was in) and pages for some of its senior members. I can't believe they are still playing after all this time.

edit: this is BS!

You start at 4d20, but once you pass the new recruit test you are bumped up to 4d100/400hp/1 turn. Some of you may gawk at this because you are used to the Rhy'Din system.

I had to get 100,000 xp to get to 4d100. The above quoted section is LAME.

I found the damage chart for Rhydin:

Damage Chart
When you roll dice, you get a set of random numbers.
i.e. You roll 4d100 and get: 45 76 91 10
The 45= 7, 76=13, 91=17, and 10=0.
Total damage done is: 37
This is the list of rolls and the amount of damage each one does.

1 to 14=0
15 to 19 =1
20 to 24 = 2
25 to 29 = 3
30 to 34 = 4
35 to 39 = 5
40 to 44 = 6
45 to 49 = 7
50 to 54 = 8
55 to 59 = 9
60 to 64 = 10
65 to 69 = 11
70 to 74 = 12
75 to 79 = 13
80 to 84 = 14
85 to 89 = 15
90 = 16
91 = 17
92 = 18
93 = 19
94 = 20
95 = 21
96 = 22
97 = 23
98 = 24
99 = 25
100 = 26

I wish the Castle of Fate website was still up. It was HUGE. We had over 1500 members in that clan. Good times. Should we use a chart like this one or something else?

You make a character using the classes listed on the d20 SRD. Each one has its own hit point total. Then when you attack you roll a twenty sided dice to determine if you hit. If you do hit then you roll to see how much damage you do. Rinse and repeat until one of you is dead. So say your a warrior and your strength is 14 you get +2 and your class is warrior you get another +1 to hit. So when rolling to hit your enemy you have +3 to hit total. And then you compare it to their defense and take it from there. It's like making an RPG character, but the system is simple enough to keep in your head.

It is better to make a character first and then explain the rules of combat as you go along. All of the classes have their ups and downs, but right now I am not sure if we will allow magic. That's why I want to know if people are interested. So I can talk setting and see what people do and don't want to specifically be playable. If you die lets say you go to spawn by typing the /spawn command.

I personally would cut out magic. It doesn't exist in-game (beyond funny levitating blocks), so I see no reason to complicate our characters with it.
