Hey there, gents.
I've been considering buying Minecraft for quite some time, and this is the week where I think I may do it. I do just have a few questions for you guys to help me make up my mind.
1. Does it get old fast? What is the most fun part of the game?
2. I play Dwarf Fortress, Oblivion + Morrowind (naturally), etc.. Will I be missing anything if I don't buy Minecraft?
3. If I join, can I get BGSForum server access? I promise I will never intentionally grief anything (if I were to, say, be digging a mine in a random location and accidentally breach a secret underground base, I would inform the owner at once, apologize profusely, and try and fix it as best I can.)
1. I wouldn't say it gets old fast, no. I've been playing for...I think over a month now...daily. Rarely do i play such a game for this length and not getting bored. Well, I do get bored sometimes if I have nothing to do, but the trick is to always occupy your mind with something. When I can't think of anything to do, I just start expanding the fortress. The most fun part of the game, for me, is building. It's even more fun in multiplayer because you build with others, and you can chat too (really, it can be very entertaining at times).
2. There's no correlation between playing Ob+MW and playing Minecraft, there can be no comparison IMO.
3. Mining one or a couple of blocks by mistake isn't griefing. They can be fixed in a matter of seconds. Destroying dozens of blocks, putting blocks all over the place and using water or lava to ruin things is griefing.
