What currency should we use? I think it should be torches, or lanterns when they're implemented. Everybody needs torches, and while they're easy to make, you never have enough to just give out, making them good for currency imo. Gold comes to mind but that's far too rare and troublesome to find.

Torches are way too common for currency.
I say we use gold, if we use currency that is. I would prefer the idea of trading materials to materials rather than using currency.

I say we wait until Notch adds multiplayer Nether support and not use admin shops for Nether materials

I have torches coming out of every orifice in my 1x1x2 blocky body. They'd be a ha'penny at most.

Barter doesn't really work too well selling unobtainable items. I think in this instance, trade for iron blocks/gold/diamond would be fine.

Yes, and since damage is added there is some use for gold. You can craft golden apples which heals 100%

But where the hell do you even get apples? To my knowledge I've never seen an apple tree in-game.

Trees sometimes drop apples and they can be found in dungeon chests. They are extremely rare and aren't worth the hassle. Creating a golden apple is a waste of gold IMO as you could just carry around some cooked bacon and it does the same job in 2 pieces and is easily obtained.

Gold is too hard to find to use as currency. Iron might be better, though that's relatively easy to find. Bartering seems like the best option I suppose but then there's the issue of having to get to the other person who could be several minutes or even hours away from where you are. The main spawn could be used as a trading hub but people would never go back there unless hmod was working and allowed them to /sethome, and judging by what you guys have been saying hmod wont be working for a while after this next update.

Gold isn't that rare. Sure, you wont find much in the first half hour, but one you dig down to a good level (I usually operate between 5 and 10 blocks above bedrock, though it can be found higher too), it doesn't take too long to collect. And it's otherwise useless.

I think that Minecraft needs achievements. Such as these:

Description: Placed you're first block.

http://achievements.schrankmonster.de/Achievement.aspx?text=I%20Am%20Not%20Superman...

Description: Fell to you're death. Idiot.

http://achievements.schrankmonster.de/Achievement.aspx?text=Let%20There%20Be%20Light!

Description: Created your fisrt torch.

http://achievements.schrankmonster.de/Achievement.aspx?text=Was%20That%20A%20Creeper?!

Description: Killed your first monster.

http://achievements.schrankmonster.de/Achievement.aspx?text=Holy%20S*@$!%20It%20WAS%20A%20Creeper!

Description: Got killed by a Creeper.

It isn't that it's rare, I have several dozen blocks sitting in a chest myself. It's that I don't really like the idea of having to go find cave after cave to explore in order to find more gold when I could be doing more constructive things.

That's why we set sensible rates. I think, for instance 1 gold ingot for 1 lightstone block would be fair.

I don't know, I think that an ingot for two blocks could work better. The real question is what would be done with all this gold?

It would be sent off to the same place the lightstone and such came from. The Empire.

Not that empire. Actually, I'd be in favour of another admin area such as the old Aldgate vault, but larger so we can build it up with the materials get from selling things.

But then what if all of you wanted a different place? It doesn't sound like an adminium vault would have much space.

We make it a big adminium vault! Anything I work on I'll work on with at least one more person, so I can just TP over to them once I'm done in the vault.

Maybe you should make it a "trusted Mamber" vault instead. :hubbahubba:

But is adminium enough anymore? Since BlockTech invented the adminium drill and all.
