I'd be fine with making a new world. If we do make one, we need to seriously control the way settlements are made around spawn. On the current map, the main spawn is a total mess, with tons of different structures that go on for miles. Nobody should be able to build anything directly by the spawn like is the case now, and instead we should make an area of breather room around the spawn before making any structures.

What we really need to do is wall off the city like what they did with Aldgate (though the wall shouldn't be made of adminium) and that should be the area we can build in. If we really need to expand, we will, since the walls won't be made of adminium. Building in the city automatically allows your building to be protected against griefing. If you build outside of the city, you should have to pay a fee of whatever we decide currency should be to keep your building safe. These rules should be placed somewhere so they are easy to see by all members of the server, so minimal complaining ensues when someone builds outside the city and gets griefed.

If temple as a roof, and the spawn is inside it. Players will spawn at the roof. IIRC

Then make something like stonehenge.

I really don't like the idea of a new map, the current one just has way to much history. And the fact that I just started building a big project and have 90ish diamonds. I vote that we give this map a chance with damage, and then decide.

I don't think anyone really wants to lose their work, but it seems like nearly everyone is in support of the new map. And it makes sense. Everybody has tons of material that mods gifted to them, and have built things with that material that would have taken much much longer if made legitimately. I really think a new map with stricter rules is just the best option.

Wamp, if I recall correctly you are the one who decides if we change the map, and I hope you see how almost everyone wants to and the reasons why we want to.

I don't know about the whole gifting thing. Gifting some things should be allowed, but only things that are impossible to get otherwise such as lightstone.

If we do start a new map I would want to restart vault 003. As we haven't made much progress on it so far it wouldn't be to hard to rebuild.

If we do start a new world I definitely want to make another tunnel like you and I have built SimpsonFly, but this time made in such a way that we could flood it and use boats for speedy travel. Especially considering Notch fixed the issue with boats not loading distant chunks.

As you probably already figured out I'm more interested in exploring than actually settling down and building something, so if you don't want to take part in a new tunnel I'd understand.

And how would you make this speedy boat system?

I'd make a decent sized tunnel first, then I'd try to surface and find sources of water to put in buckets and fill part of the tunnel with.

I'm imagining a tunnel 6 blocks wide, with two blocks in the center where the water would go, then two platforms on the left and right of the water that would be each be two blocks wide to allow for people to come and go without bumping into each other.

I could jump into Minecraft and make a quick example if you'd like.

That's a good question... we could use minecarts instead but my god they svck... maybe we could have two water ways, one going one way and the other going the other way?

This would be a rather large project, so I suggest just build a tunnel really far and starting from there. Two tunnels side-by-side connected by passages would work, but that would double the work time. I think that we'd need more then just the two of us to get this done. Along with a crapload of water blocks.

Well we could probably manage to recruit a few people. For example, Suffca is homeless, so we could lure him in with promises of a warm tunnel to sleep in. But we don't have to worry about it for now considering we don't even know if and when we'll start a new world.

We should try some kind of caste system for our new world.

Since damage is added there is jobs for soldiers as well.

We need people who take care of food production, farmers, hunters and such. Miners are of course needed. Soldiers will be hired
to help miners and other people.

I'm not sure if people want just do one job.

I'd say we wait a day or 3-4 after damage is in to switch to the new map. That way people can get used to it a little bit on this map, and maybe discover some initial problems before going to the fresh map. Falling damage will definitely take some getting used to. :P

Will the server be set to normal difficulty?

On the new map my plan was to created a small walled settlement near the water as a safe haven during the night and a good place to get food, with a large farm which people can grow wheat on. And they can fish. And if we're lucky there's a pig spawn. Wheat sounds like the best food to me. Bread doesn't heal as much as meat, but wheat stacks so it takes less space.

Wow, I hate Notch right now. I just died because a piece of gravel fell on me, and I respawned so far away from the cave I died in that I've essentially lost absolutely all progress I made in singleplayer. What the hell? That's the most unforgiving set-up for a game I've ever seen. Die once and you're [censored]. If I start over again I have to make sure to never leave the general area of the spawn point, which sort of defeats the whole purpose of this game. I guess I'll have to set up my base right at the spawn and just explore with the bare minimum in terms of supplies. :shakehead:

Right, I'm nearing a greater knowledge of why the server keeps on crashing, I'll update you if I find anything conclusive. Regarding inventory rollbacks: Inventory is saved when you log-out, not when the server saves: re-log every 20 minutes or so to save your inventory!

Does this mean that you may be able to figure out how to save the server?

If by "history" you mean "clutter", then yes, it does.

Create a compass (always points to spawn) then build a road or minecart track from your base to spawn. That way when you die, you have a nice quick way back.

He did say he'd rather make it too hard than too easy though.
