Yeah the free version is extremely limited. If you want to do anything worthwhile in this game you need to buy it. All you can do in the free version is make very basic buildings. The fun of looking for things to mine and exploring caves isn't in the free version.
Oh come on now, don't lie to him about what he can build. Someone built the friggin earth in Creative mode you know.
What's in creative mode:
1.Creative mode can generate relatively simplistic landscapes. There's a notable lack of smoothness to the landscape compared to the latest beta.
2. Caves in creative mode are large multi-levelled structures with plenty of open space. the Lower levels of a cave are usually flooded as a result of the fluid physics.
3. Fluids will attempt to fill any air block below them or to the sides of them. A single block of water or lava could fill a stadium if at the right height. The game does not spawn fluids above sea-level. Lava does not exist at ground level. Fluids cannot be brought to higher elevations without hacks to allow the spawning of water or lava blocks or map editors.
4. You are given blocks, and do not need to procure them.
5. Most blocks do not have special effects. The sponge block prevents water from existing near it.
6. Lighting comes at two-levels. In light shadow and in sunlight. If it's in sunlight, it's fully lit, if it's not in direct sunlight, it appears slightly darker, but still very well lit, even if your at the bottom of the world.
7. Hard bedrock box surrounds the map below sea level.
8. Outside of a very limited ability to use fluids, and no ability to create light sources (which you don't need in creative mode), you are not limited in complex your buildings can be. Note, unlike what Antibody said, YOU CAN MAKE VERY COMPLEX BUILDINGS!
The latest beta features:
1. Health bar and enemies.
2. Need to gather blocks.
3. Crafting.
4. The nether.
5. More realistic fluid physics. Fluids are now "limited" if you will and no longer try to spread infinitely.
6. Can generate additional areas as you explore. No appreciable hard sides to the map.
7. Bedrock bottom is no longer flat, but rough. Can have holes in it that lead to a void. Falling in void causes death.
8. New ways to incorporate fluids and custom lighting into structures.
9. Lighting varies from sunlit to total darkness.
10. Caves are narrow, cramped and dark. Can range from small open spaces in the earth to large multi-level tunnels. Very few open spaces compared to creative mode. Occasionally, you may encounter large vertical shafts that lead to the surface.
