Another thing to consider is that getting diamonds isn't that hard currently. You just have to go deep enough, and if you get in trouble, or you're done mining, you can just teleport out. Without the teleport command stuff like diamonds will be harder to get and shops will be more attractive.

That is true. Inconvenience would help foster an economy.

This came up in the chat last night. I think if we get the number of trustworthy mods onboard that we want, we should be able to disable both the /home command (only given to players due to the distant territories in the last update anyway) and /spawn (only given to players in case they got glitched in a block or something). The mods are perfectly capable of teleporting someone out of a sticky situation.

In my opinion /home shouldn't be disabled until we have sufficient (and safe) transportation to and from spawn and this new city. If we put this city on the current map our top priority should not be building the city, but building a road network to it. Without that, nobody will want to risk going to it.

And there are three prime locations for this city on the map. The first is the large mass of land to the south of the Imperium Empire. Gamemastr moved out and nobody lives there anymore, making it the place with the least hassle to move into. If that isn't sufficient, there is also the large amount of land where MrTankJump is located. If he hasn't done too much with his area and agreed to relocate, it would be another good place for the city. And the land where Steampunk, LEGOGOD and SimpsonFly's second territory are would be good if they all agreed to move.

We can easily move the spawn point to be at the city gates as it was with Aldgate.

There will be no "compulsory purchase" of territory and we wont look to place the city where someone has already built the Colossus of Rhodes or the Hanging Gardens, but we would be grateful if people agreed to vacate underdeveloped territory if it was for the greater convenience.

I'd like to use the existing map rather than starting completely afresh if possible. A new map was required for the last update only because the old one was a complete mess and corrupted to the point of not running in Cartographer.

I agree with others that a big community project is the best thing for this situation. People who are naturally reclusive can provide materials and those that prefer a sense of cooperation can work on the project. I also love the idea of reconstructing the Imperial City in Minecraft, starting with White Gold Tower.

Hey, I love TES too, but I'd rather we did something original. Something that's ours.

Why not just build a huge town on our current map, then build a series of tunnles, light them with torches, and seal of any caves, and you have a safa passage from place to place. Build a ntewwork of them and link them to the main town, everyone can go to thier territro and thw town. I may not have built much but I dont want to lose my current location.

The project doesn't have to be White Gold Tower, I just thought it was a good start and would lead to buildings around it.

Game made a good point earlier in the thread and I can see that a few players agree with him. I think it is a good idea to build the new city on the current map, that way players don't lose their hard work. I propose that the city be built on the 3x3 grid starting at d11 and ending at f13. It is by far the largest unoccupied region (unless there have been claims there recently) and has a little bit of everything.

I would also agree with starter kits, if they become necessary.

Great idea. D11 to F13 is good for me, as it's not too far away from my claim (C11). It's got lots of space and has lots of trees in the area, so it seems almost perfect.

Saurok just suggested to me that we re-purpose GDL as the Administration Capitol. GDL already has a fairly large area and walls set. Any unclaimed property in that area could also be used to extend the city boundaries. It is also a lot closer to many other zones so the first few roads will be easier to connect the zones.

Sounds like a plan to me.

I think I like the new map idea more, but we shouldn't do like we did with this map, it has indeed become a single player but with a chat box. I haven't been playing a lot lately mainly for that reason, t'is boring.

My idea for the new map is simple. We must divide into faction first, at least for now, then we could start claiming private property after a while. For the factions I'm guessing anyone with ideas for a faction would put them forward here on the form. For example:

Faction Name: Algate (Something serious if possible, I certainly don't want something like $|P/.\CE LULZ $TAT!0|\|)
Theme: Medieval (Or we could all share a theme.)
Government Type: Monarchy
Stuff like that. It would also include some politics in the game, or revolutions, but those should be discussed. Or even civil wars.

Later each faction could develop like its own traditions, festivities, events, etc... and wars of course.

After we agree to, say, 4 initial factions, we each choose the faction we want to belong to. Then everyone must work together with their respective faction to create their respective cities.
I would elaborate more on this but I'm in the middle of a lecture and the lecturer keeps staring at me. V.V

For the sake of "but I worked so hard on my territory on this map!" I suggest a booster pack containing a lot of refined stone, cobbles, etc.... and diamond tools. It will encourage people more.
I'm also guessing one of the reasons why people are against the community idea is because, well lets face it, not everyone is creative or artistic, and yea I have seen some nasty creations. To prevent this, I think any new ideas should be brought forward (the blueprints I mean) to the community, or at least the faction leader for approval. A voting system would be pretty damn useful here.

I liked your initially suggested area much more. Unless I'm not looking at the map properly, your initial suggestion would give us a much larger area to set the city. 3x3 as opposed to, well the largest I can see you being able to make the GDL area is 3x2 before you run into the many territories surrounding it. Consider for a second that Starnia has been abandoned for essentially the entire time we've had this map up. Allstar circled a territory on the map but only signed in during the first few days before never coming on again. For all intents and purposes, it's abandoned. So if we need more space, we can simply expand it northwards, and would run into absolutely no problems until we reached this isnt my name's area. It would be much more difficult to expand the GDL area.

So yeah, my vote is no for repurposing GDL, yes for your initial suggestion.

I like the idea a lot, but I don't want that we start new world.

As for GDL acting as capitol for our city, I have nothing against it. If we are going to divide to several smaller states. I'm ready to offer GDL keep as capitol again.
Long as Fanner shows green light that is :P

I am in support of the d11 to f13 idea. I'm not such a fan of the factions idea, if people want to band together I believe it will occur naturally anyway. Having the GDL keep as the Capitol kind of defeats the point of having everybody build the town as it is already built.

I thought of something the Admins could do in order to maintain interest in a town.

Build a Bank. Simply put, charge players a lump sum of gold followed by smaller payments in order to maintain a safety deposit box consisting of a single chest in an adminium box. This would provide a major incentive to use the town, since it'd take no-clip hacks to rob the safety-deposit chests. Also, ban no-clip hacks if you haven't already. Seriously, there the ultimate weapon of the greifer.

I am personally open to the idea of a new map, and implementing the starter kit seems like a great idea to get peole started on building, maybe having spawn as the big city mentioned, and having people branch off from it?

GDL keep only acts as a capitol building (like in old Aldgate) and houses and other stuff is build around it.

We had something like that in Aldgate.

The Adminium Drill had not been invented yet. I merely placed ladders to climb to the top of the building and entered through a convenient hatch at the top :P
