The Adminium Drill had not been invented yet. I merely placed ladders to climb to the top of the building and entered through a convenient hatch at the top :P

Why wasn't the storage unit fully encased in Adminium?

GDL keep only acts as a capitol building (like in old Aldgate) and houses and other stuff is build around it.

What I meant is that it would be better to build our own capitol building.

Hmm. So I'll be forced into the confines of some griefers, and will have a totalitarian spy system enacted to watch my every move, and about as much space to build some dinky town shack or maybe small tower. Hahahahah. I only came online to build and then share my creations (none of which has happened due to restarts, except for the Argonath). Single player is looking pretty tantalizing right about now. What do I get for joining the online community at this point? There will always be griefers. So I'm not getting any protection.

GDL castle is not ready yet, so feel free to help building it if we decide to use it.

We (especially Jens) have added a bunch of new content to Minecraft that we want to get out asap, so there will be a content patch update next week with a whole pile of fun new toys, including a water mob and quite possibly paint if we can figure out how exactly it should work.

Slaughterfish, coming soon!

Well if we do build the White Gold Tower (or something similiar), we could use it as a Capitol... or not.
Anyway, I have nothing against GDL. It looks pretty nice place and we wouldn't need to build all those walls and stuff.

You aren't forced to do anything. As for griefing, the Aldgate system worked very well. We only had 2 major griefings the entire time it was in place. The new city will be optional. It is an economic hub and optional living space built by the players, you can still have your zone (this is what roads are for :whisper: ) . Since it is built by the players, there is less likely a chance that it is going to be griefed. Would you grief your own construct?

Also, it is far from a totalitarian spy system, but if you truly feel that way and believe that it is, then I suppose your area can go unwatched. 'Big Brother' has set your zone free. I wash my hands of it. Please stop being such a pessimist and post ideas instead of complaints.

-We aren't taking your zone.
-It is our JOB to watch the players, hence the term "Moderator".

The only reason the first town worked was it was so new and pristine no one was sure what to do with it, and eventually people got bored. There may have only been 2 major griefing incidents because the minecraft server was relatively new then. I'm sorry for being a pessimist, but as it turns out it's been pretty handy in predicting the server populations behavior so far. Also the posts I have read seem to think people are being forced into this at gun point. I wouldn't have complained so much if I knew it was optional.

I would be willing to change maps if ALL of vault spartas loot transfered over to the new one and i had time to find a new home on the new map.

We aren't changing maps now. We are building the city on the current map. To clarify some confusion (see above posts :P ) :

- The area will be the 3x3 grid starting at d11 and ending at f13.
- The city will be built by players, for the players and run by the players.
- Your zones are not being taken away.
- The city is a safe zone.
- The city is an optional place to live.
- More people in one area = less RAM used to load chunks = less lag.
- Roads will be constructed to each zone, with owner approval.
- Administrative constructs in the city, the walls and the roads will be built using spawned materials to make it go faster.
- The Imperial Shop sells everything now.
- Shopkeeping will be allowed in the Market District.
- Moderators will be teleporting on players randomly, like I have been doing since last month or so, as random checkups to ensure they are not griefing/stealing (where illegal).
- /home may or may not be removed, it is undecided. Reason: People just /home when in danger. This defeats the purpose of Survival multi-player
- /spawn may or may not be removed, it is undecided. Reason: ^
- The Modlist is scheduled to change shortly pending a Mod meeting.

If you have a suggestion, or I have forgotten something. Post it. (I'll be adding the post to the OP as well.)

sounds good to me

I might stop by and help with the city too since all my obsidian disapeared and I don't feel like going and spending hours to mine more to do my little project >_<

Oh then I'm fine with that. I thought we were being forced at gunpoint to give up everything. Carry on I'll just go on digging my mine. Please no roads to my place, but in the future I might widen some of the lakes to make them connect to bigger areas. If and when that time comes I'll make a little dock north of me just outside of my borders for people to use.

I am all for the idea of building the new city on the current map. I am also all for building it all from scratch, no using the GDL castle.

Now for the next order of business we need to decide the layout of the walls.I was thinking about http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/ww316/SimpsonFly/CityFloorplan.jpg (Forgive the crudeness).

And if course that's only my basic idea. Proportions can (And should) be adjusted as needed.

1. I like the time saving, but it does defeat the survival aspect.
2. What?
3. As soon as the mods are in agreement about some things and when we have the time to do it. Sometime this week.
4. Yes.

I was thinking that the other districts should surround the Administrative district. Also, the residential area will need to be HUGE so that players can have decent sized buildings.

I just had an idea.. what if there was nothing at all in the middle of the city? We could have our own central park.

Too many muggings in Central Park

I don't think that we REALLY have to worry about that. :toughninja:

How would you surround the admin district anyway? We only have four zones. However we could always have an east and west residential. More building space is always good.

Well we need all the land we can get, I think a central park is a luxury we can't afford.

What I had in mind is similar to your plan. http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/84/citylayout1.png

Actually, I had just drawn up http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/ww316/SimpsonFly/CityFloorplan2.jpg. Still very crude of course.

I'm not too sure how much space industrial would require.

East and west residential taking up W, SW, E and SE sections of the 3x3. Admin in the centre, with a nice little forest and lake. Industrial AND Commercial in the south, leaving room for future considerations or a big group project in the northern 3 sections.

Sorry, couldn't help it. I'm a planner at heart.

The residential area should definitely take up all three tiles to the north. That way, if we need to expand it, we have plenty of room to.
