Unofficial Minecraft Discussion XXVIII

Like anyone, it's always bad to lose what you built when the world changes. But personally, I always love restarting over in Minecraft. (I've often restarted my single player worlds for that matter). So on this, I don't mind.

But it would have been nice to hear about this change before we started building the community project. It was a blast to build the castle. Might be my favourite Minecraft multiplayer experience so far, but to know that we got the green light even though it was heavily discussed that the world would be scrapped was a bad move.

This said, I'll welcome the new world. Now that all single-player features officially work in multi, starting fresh means no one can exploit the bugs that were present when this world was started.
No item spawn for everyone, excellent. No /home and /spawn, I don't mind. This will, indeed, give more value to minable materials.

I haven't yet posted my thoughts on the previous multiplayer elements we tried implementing since I first started in Aldgate..

If there's something we must never do again it's promoting a feature that focuses on war. Minecraft's PvP svcks. Period. Territory wars, Faction Wars, Temple Wars.. they don't work in that game. And I think we all know this by now. :)
Like I mentioned above, I had a blast helping build the castle. This is what we must focus on on the next world. Building stuff together.

I'm short on time I'm afraid. This is it for now. I'll add more later.

Also, minecraft related I am making a floating castle in early works.

Those are fun. Oddly, the island part is probably the hardest. Building a single-tiered island is easy, but if you want to expand it to include water features (after you've built your structures) they can be pains in the ass.

Yea just getting all the cobblestone and placing it by 128x128 is a pain and plus every time I fall from a high distance and die java crashes and corrupts my world save. Thankfully I have not fallen yet but it happened to my first world.

Much like the last server files for aldgate, this will be backed up and available to download. If you don't know where the files for the prior map are, you haven't been paying much attention to the OP at various points, and to several posts I've made. If the files have gone down, I am surprised, and was unaware of this development. The version that was uploaded was uncorrupted, and worked so long as you put in a bit of effort getting it to work. When you have over 1 gig of minecraft save you do get some problems.

old map as in the one that is being wiped before you start over with a new map

This thread will be staying closed for a while, until things have settled down.
