I'm noticing in some screenshots I'm seeing on the web that some of the pics have soft shadows in them. Any idea how I could get that in my game? Edit: Also is there a really good texture pack that most people like to use? I tried a few but they all seem a little off.

I know http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=140755 pack is pretty popular, and I certainly love it. It maintains the low res character of the original game but adds loads of style and makes the world much nicer and very charming. I replaced a few of the textures myself though, such as the sign.

Thanks. It looks pretty good but it seems there are some issues with high(er) res textures so I'll pass. I've been using http://www.eldpack.com/ for the past couple of hours and I think I'm going to stick with it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v662/Lemunde/Minecraft/2011-01-28_170405.jpg Just a little beach house to store all my stuff in. Not nearly as impressive as some of the other stuff I've seen but it's functional.

Try http://painterlypack.net/.

It has a texture pack generator with a whole bunch of options so you can customize the pack to your liking.

I was using http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=29164 lately. However I later noticed that the default minecraft textures by Notch, combined with GLSL shaders = six. All you need are the shaders and the game is good to go.

Do the shaders not work with texture packs?

I don't know if it's the server, my machine or Minecraft itself but it's really unstable online. I probably won't log back onto the server until things start working better. I managed to get a little villa started north beyond the wall. Needs lots of work. I didn't even get to finish the ceiling.

Well, this is beta, and single player is focused on a lot more than SMP, so you have to expect some problems. What kind of issues are you having?

If it's the same problem I'm having it generally involves crashing with a black screen.

A lot.

Might help to know I'm on Windows 7.

Well I gave it another shot and it seems to be working okay now. Not great but it's playable. I just need to be sure to avoid using boats because they don't seem to work right online.

Well, I have completed the tunnels to both SAC outposts. All that needs to be done is build an entrance near the city and proper "hub stations" at either outpost.

If you want to use higher res texture packs you can patch the game with http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=46173 and it should solve all resolution realted problems.

After a recent reformat, I'm having trouble getting Minecraft going again (seting up a server with some church friends). I downloaded Minecraft.exe, but when I try to load it I get the Windows Error sound followed by nothing happening. I've go the latest drivers and Java, so I've no idea whats wrong here. Anyone else had this problem?

They do work, but the shaders alone are enough in my opinion.
