Unofficial Minecraft Discussion XXXI

Rules for Conduct and Discussion Within this Topic:

* All discussions regarding server administration and decisions must take place at: http://www.jamieep.co.uk/forums/index.php
* Any discussion regarding the running of the server is forbidden within this thread, and will be considered in breach of the CD rules.
* Any discussion regarding your activities within the BGSF community server, any other Minecraft server or a Single-Player world is allowed within this thread.
* Any other Minecraft related discussion that is in accordance with the BGSF CD rules is allowed within this thread.

Important Notice for all those Interested in the Server and its Status:

We are not going to ignore the community, instead we are going to create a system via which you can actually communicate with us. This will be a hierarchical council system.

Admins - These people act as a House of Lords to the decision making process; they are able to veto decisions that they would consider detrimental or negative to the health of the server, however most decisions made by the Council will be passed. They will also act as controllers of any vault system implemented, maintain the server, and have the final say in issues regarding moderating.
Wampbit
Bonemonster
Undone

Mods - TBD powers.

Council - Decision making representatives of the player-base. These members are put forward by the players to represent them, but the final decision on appointment falls on the Admins and existing council members. Except in extreme conditions, the decision of this group will determine any changes to the server.
Council Members:
Caffienatedjedi
Carlzilla
Saurok
SimpsonFly
TESFanner

To see council debates refer to Jamies forums and the suggestion board in the Admin Tower.

All discussions of the above must take place at http://www.jamieep.co.uk/forums/index.php - any discussion pertaining to the issues raised here, and other server issues are not suitable for the BGSF, and shall be reported, as stated in the rules for this thread. Know that we intend to change the server for the better, how this change will manifest is still undecided, but a degree of decisive action must be taken, unlike the laissez-faire approach to administration we have gradually approached.

What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a creative sandbox game centered around exploration and survival; exploring and gathering resources allows you to protect yourself against a variety of beasties that hunt you down during the night. The creative sandbox elements of the game fuel your want to survive and gather, which in turn allow you to build many wonderful creations. Basic fluid physics also provide interesting means of creating basic machines. The multiplayer is very similar to the single-player, just with more people. Right now neither enemies nor damage function, however an update fixing this will be arriving shortly.

Server Information
The server is open! 88.198.17.4:25500

It's that time again!

Our due date for the server is February 5th. If you would like to donate, instructions are up at Jamies forums.

A personal note from your Lord and Master, Bonemonster:

When I first joined the BGSF Server back in the home server days my main goal was to have fun. It still is but now I have new goals. When it became obvious that we would need a dedicated server to support our growing community I took initiative and found us one. It has been my main goal since to try and make this the best damned Minecraft server.

Previously as an admin I didn't have a clue as to how to run a server or how to pretty it up with cool mods and plugins and we only had one person that could do that. Now I know how to do a LOT! Things should run a lot smoother with more than one admin knowing how to do these things. This is step one towards being THE BEST DAMNED MINECRAFT SERVER!

Step two was getting some much needed admin mods such as Big Brother which works wonder let me tell you! Along with bukkit we don't experience as much lag either, if any at all.

Now if we can just keep the server running. :P

Give Jest his monies! :D

Oh and, have fun!

So every once in a while I hear these weird sounds. Kind of, I guess you'd call it an evil sound. Any idea what that is?

If you're above ground at day and you hear them, it means that there is an underground cave close by.
Would http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PA2uLm8ups be the sounds you're hearing? You can also hear them if you're not in a well lit area.

Yeah, pretty much. I figured that's what they were for but sometimes I hear them when I probably shouldn't. Like when I'm running around my house.

I've taken to piecing together my own personal texture pack from all the ones I've downloaded. It's like, I like the GUI from this one, but this other one has really nice terrain and this other one has really nice items.

Are you using the road I built? If you are using zansmap it is at 302, -480 I believe.

I just started up a world using a newer version of Minecolony. I eventually want to construct a thriving town of Npcs and updating it whenever minecolony updates.

So, I downloaded Minecraft a couple of days ago, and absolutely love it. I've made myself a big house, lot's of window and a huge mineshaft underneath it. I've even found a couple of diamonds.

The problem is, I haven't been able to connect to the multiplayer or figure out how to get any mods working yet. For some reason I can't connect to any servers, and let's just say my experience with Bethesda modding doesn't help me at all here. I'm pretty much clueless. Any advice?

Edit: In regard to my multiplayer issues, what happens is that after I put I the IP address, I get this message: "Failed to connect to the server. Connection refused: connect."

You need the IP:Port not copy pasted and you may need to be on a whitelist.

Jest may reset the server himself to add a server update they did with TCAdmin. Also, he may configure Permissions and IConomy to work like it should, mainly with commands I am having trouble with allowing admins to do.

server up for now.

Leave the city through the South Gate (which is pretty new) and follow the path out of the city. Take the first left that leads to two bridges and the ladder to the tunnel will be on your right.

So, anyone able to tell me why my Minecraft is suddenly crashing to a black screen? It's happened twice now in fairly little time on a fresh world and when I restart the game it spawns me into what I think was my prior location, but with all the recent mining completely erased - meaning I'm in the middle of a solid chunk of stone (It's kinda bad for my health). I've got the latest Minecraft and Java updates, too. I just can't figure it out... And if it continues like this the game will be essentially unplayable :(

I don't know if there is a fix for it, but I would recommend saving every five minutes or so.

I recently bought this game and have been surprised with how much fun I have been having with it. I'm not sure how much (if at all) I will play on this server since I play somewhere else, but whitelist me anyway please:

As mentioned in the previous thread, Wampbit has the old map but his computer is fried just now. Once it's repaired the map will be uploaded.

Well I've tried a half a dozen times today to connect to the server but it seems my new computer doesn't agree with Minecraft multiplayer. A few seconds after connecting I get kicked out every time.

I'll try to figure it out tommorow, just wanted to say please excuse me for all the times I connected and disconnected. :)

I'm aware I sound like a massive noob right now, but what is a whitelist? Is it a list of people allowed onto the server? If so, could I be added? My username is the same as this: FateOrFatality. Thanks.

Oh I have that annoying problem too. The solution is to reduce the render distance from far to normal. If it still continues to black screen you, reduce it even more.
