got a question about the old map.

Does anyone recall where that city we were building was? I am trying to find it on my single player game.

South West from the spawn IIRC.

I think that we should raise selling prices and raise buying prices. It's just weird to sell an entire stack of something for 1G.

Wool/Sandstone/Iron/Diamonds have had prices adjusted for now. All price changes will be irrelevant within 2 weeks as a dynamic pricing system will be in place that adjusts prices based on supply/demand.

Interesting!

And come on, man, do you really expect them to develop an entire game from scratch and then give it away for free?

Not to mention a bunch of Source mods that are full games in their own right. But I wasn't talking to someone who was reasonable when I said that.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have the time and resources to develop a game without compensation. Besides, Toady does take donations http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=76354.0

True. I don't think Minecraft's selling model would even work for Dwarf Fortress. The game doesn't have multiplayer and it has an insane learning curve. If people had to pay $10 for it it would never have become as popular as it is. Instead it depends on people who play it for some time first, and then realize how brilliant it is, so they are willing to donate to the project.

There is a Minecraft update scheduled for today. If Jeb managed to fix the memory leak problem he mentioned on his twitter.

Well then shouldn't it be the other way around?

Y'know, since Minecraft only gets a few small updates a month.

I don't know whether to update or not. On one hand I really want to see what's new, but on the other I won't be able to play on the server until it's updated.

I like the new look and interface with the update, but everytime I click on Singeplayer or try to load a World, Minecraft freezes.

Anyone else getting this? I guess I'll try again.
EDIT: just froze again.

Try forcing the game to update all files. You can do that from the Options menu in the new launcher.

Now it works, thanks!

What happens when you plant a seed in a new world?

You know, you could just backup your .minecraft appdata folder and try the beds. ^_^

It makes a specific world. Like, if you put 12345 in you'll get the same world as if someone else puts in 12345. I think.

edit: I put 12345 in the seed and spawned http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7154191/Pictures/2011-02-22_18.25.27.png Someone put 12345 in as well and you should get the same thing.

edit2: you might not spawn in the same place as that's not stores in the seed but it'll be the same world

Hmm.. that is an idea.

By the way, does anybody know if the beds work in SMP? I really doubt it but I need to ask.

Now that is unexpected. Do they also set your spawn in SMP though? That went unmentioned.

Server will not be updated until the anti grief mod we use is working with it. There is no ETA for Bukkit or Big Brother to be completed, so it would be best just to not update your client for now. We COULD just backup the server and go no rules for a bit, then revert when everything is smooth. Won't be able to change anything until 10 hours from now though.
