What is seeds?

Also I;ve been trying to create my own server with my friends at my school. I have created the server and everything and I;ve tested it but I got a few questions.

1. How do I make myself the admin. The admin folder disappeared and I can't find it anywhere.
2. Do I have to have the Minecraft server thingy running for the server to work?

Seeds are basically random sequences of numbers and letters that Minecraft uses to generate the worlds. In theory, if you and somebody else put in the same seed, you should get the same world. However, many times, people's differing hardware causes the world to still be different.

~~Wish~~ Love the new Seeds, try putting 404 in. Near your spawn, there is a small pond and a bunch of gravel. Dig around that gravel for a nice surprise

Found that out on the minecraft forums, and seems to be consistent across many people's PC's.

EDIT: Fixed a misplaced word (how did I mix up Wish and Love?!?!). Maybe I was more delirious than I thought last night

Tried out the new version. Being able to skip night is a nice addition.

In other non-Minecraft news, progress continues on Fabritoid. I can now construct and deconstruct walls, floors and stairs. Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can add the rest of the stair directions then try to add some save functionality. That should be enough for an initial release.

Just tried that... Way more hard than I thought it would be... And I forgot spiders can walk on the damn ceilings now... It is pitch black and enemies can be anywhere. I only lasted like 10 minutes with my wooden sword and 2 raw pork chops.

Normal. Near as I can tell, the only thing it really affects is the spawn rate. Mobs don't seem any less aggressive or easier to kill on Easy mode, and I can barely tell a difference between Normal and Hard (perhaps that means I should bend my 'Normal is best' rule, but I find Normal strikes a good balance, especially when spelunking with skellies.

Difficulties change how much damage monsters do.

That 404 Challenge is a pain

I gathered a lot of wood, made a stone sword and gathered a number of porkchops before I descended and I only lasted 5 minutes on my first try. Second time I did better, I hastily built a couple of walls and placed a bunch of torches when I landed. Time to clear the caverns block by block.

Edit: Yes, I know I cheated with the torches but I am playing my own variant

First time was following the rules.

MegaMan - Spawns you near a massive snow biome.

Notch - Spawns you near one of the biggest deserts I have seen. It also features an above ground lava pool near one of its edges.

Texas - Spawns you in an island paradise.

Back to the Future - Lots of islands here too.

Let the hunt begin for epic maps!

Entering my home stare of North Carolina ended me up in one of the largest (If not the largest) snow biome that I have seen yet.

No tress in sight. I guess it's a tundra.

When I tried Skyrim I got a generic forest with a little sand. :unsure:

Really? I got a snowy landscape. Maybe the snow is random then.

I live in the southeastern U.S. It doesn't snow much here. I enter my state's name and it's the biggest snow biome I've ever seen. I enter Skyrim and I get a generic area. :sadvaultboy:

Yes. Biomes are randomly determined, separate from the seed.
