I found another nether portal what do?

Portals aren't restricted, obsidian use is. You are free to cast a portal using lava source blocks. The issue I have with creating portals is one of possible damage to existing structures.

I was thinking of building a spleef arena or a maze in minecraft.

Anyone who doesn't know what spleef is should check this: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Spleef
Or shortly said: It's a game in minecraft that has this big arena in air (possibly above a lava lake) and everyone drop other player from arena by destorying block under them. Last who survives wins.
So what do you think?

We had few Spleef arenas in our old world, it was quite fun. But I would prefer doing real gladiator matches now when we have damage in SMP.

I got an idea! Let's make a Colosseum and have gladiator fights there. :D

Vivec, Arena district? :D

I've copied the foreign quarter interiors into the exterior, and while 90% appears to match, http://i.imgur.com/mBrax.jpg. Perhaps a better idea would be to do something easier:

http://i.imgur.com/sQ4rp.jpg

The left lower door leads to the http://i.imgur.com/AJiZC.jpg, with access to the Library, and the Canton offices. And an entrance to the High Fane.

The right lower door leads to the http://i.imgur.com/p2uqS.jpg, with access to Justice Offices, Ordinator barracks, the hall of wisdom, and the High Fane.

http://i.imgur.com/xQtf8.jpg

That's a lot less work than the foreign quarter, with all its layers. Afterwards it would be possible to do the floating http://i.imgur.com/f6MoQ.jpg (A prison heavily guarded by ordinators) as well, or the http://i.imgur.com/c1NS3.jpg, with a room for the god Vivec at the top. The rest of the canton could be filled with mazes. If people aren't sick of the idea by then. :P

Yeah thats mine. I'm planning a trek soon to build another one. But this one will be very far away from the city.

I'm quite miffed that the ability to place obsidian has been removed. Seriously, if it puts a hole in your wall tear the damn portal down and move on. It's no worse than creepers were. Next thing you know picks will be removed because "Oh, they could destroy stuff! Well we just can't have that!"

Anyway, I won't be playing for a while.

I mean seriously, it's a sandbox game, stuff like that happens. I've had my home destroyed numerous times from creepers. Did I cry about it? No. I picked myself up, dusted off and rebuild my house.

My Inn in the Nether has been blown up by Ghasts quite a bit as of late, it's still not 100% cobble. But you don't see me asking for Ghasts to be removed do you?

If you put your portals in the real world you won't have to risk it that much, but this is minecraft, a game about destruction and building from the ground up. Stuff IS going to happen to your buildings. The sooner we all learn to accept that the better.

I had this idea a while ago. Everyone ignored me. :P

I will definitely help with building if we go through with it.

Your opinion matters. Please keep drama at http://www.jamieep.co.uk/forums/viewforum.php?f=9. A quick decision had to be made by me for what was believed to be best for everyone.

I can't access the Minecraft website. :( I've tried with both Firefox and IE, and I just get a blank page.

Does anyone have a direct link (that's not on the official page) that I can download the trial version?

There is no trial version. There is the free version, but it comes with only creative mode.

The website worked just now! Yay!

So what's the difference between that and the Beta? I know creative mode is singleplayer only.

Actually creative mode is both Single and Multiplayer. Beta has Survival mode. In creative mode there are no mobs and you have unlimited number of blocks.

Creative mode is... Antiquated. It's no longer being developed. But it's free. If all you want to do is BUILD STUFF then that's perhaps the solution for you. It's available single- or multiplayer.

Beta mode is the actively developed side. It's got mobs (enemies) and many features and blocks the creative mode is lacking. It's a fuller, more robust game and is the choice most people want if they're actually looking to play a game and have some challenges. It costs money (once only) and gets updated once or twice monthly. It's also available for single- or multiplayer. Definitely my choice.

I've just messed around a bit in creative mode. I can see it getting old quite quick, so I might buy the full version.

By the way, your avatar looks like it's checking out Venq's. :P

And Venq's avatar is checking out yours, but your avatar doesn't feel the same. It's a gruesome love triangle that will end in tears, broken hearts and sadness for all. :(

So I had a thought what if we where to have a save file we passed around kinda like the people did on this fourms with dwarf fortress. Like someone would have the file for a week and then pass it on to another member then they'd have it for a week and it just goes on.

So we'd just start with a blank map and each person would add more and more as it was passed around? That could be pretty fun, I'd be up for it.

Edit: Of course we'd have to make sure to back it up each week as a safeguard against griefing.

As would I. I suppose there's not even a minimum amount of people needed... If the number of people is small, the few that are involved just get more cracks at it. I suppose The Gate Keeper would start us off, yes?

We can keep track like this:

Current user: The Gate Keeper

Until xxxxxx (March 6th?)

Up next:

-Mr.E
