Minecarts annoy me, I don't want to be traipsing around with tons of coal just to go at a good clip. My friend's server allows you to accelerate a minecart by punching it which is far more convenient. When I asked him what mod the server used so I could plug it in to my single player games he said it was either Autocart or Minecart Mania, but wasn't sure.

Are there any opinions here as to which is the best?

Minecart Mania is the main plugin, Autocart is an add-on for Minecart Mania just removes any effort to use a minecart. You'd have to setup both for it to work on an SMP server using bukkit. There are mods to do the same in SSP, I just don't have any experience with SSP.

Where did you hear that?

I think he's talking about the smooth lighting.

I just recently learned about using Sneak so you don't fall off blocks when trying to build them high up, which is particularly embarrassing because I made both of these structures without knowing this:

I fell off at least 5 times between those two building projects.

If it makes you feel better I only just realized that when making things like torches I just needed to continuously right click on the product spot rather than shoving everything down in to my inventory one at a time.

Evan, I have made us a very beautiful flow of income that you might want to check out. Go into my room and head down the ladder to see.

You can alternate left and right clicking quickly to make it go faster. You could easily make a stack of whatever in about 3 seconds or less.

Yeah. I used to sit there with 64 coal and 64 sticks in the crafting window dragging stacks of torches down to my inventory as quickly as I could. Discovering this wasn't necessary is probably the largest d'oh! moment I had in the game . . . even worse than that time I first started exploring and wandered over to the funny green critter (which obviously couldn't be a monster because it was day out). Oh look, the funny critter is coming right over to me!

It's going to be finished. notch has already stated that. They are hoping to be done by fall of this year at which point they will make add-ons/DLC's, whatever you wanna call them.

Ok so I logged in and was instantly killed then respawned in the air and died again and it keeps happening.

How's it going on the share map, Keeper? Hopefully you found a way around this spawn-loop glitch, if that's the map it was on. A game reload, or a mod, I dunno. Let us know if you need some help with it.

So I have spent the last 3 hours or so securing the vault. For those that didn't know, it had become over-ridden with slimes... which can't be killed yet (all the way) and some of them hurt you (these can be damaged into smaller slimes). What I did was... after setting fire to the vault to no avail:

1. Blocked off the stairs leading to the final floor.
2. Mine holes in the floor and replaced the blocks with water spawners (slimes can't jump in water and become stuck)
3. Mined along the edges of the room where i knew the chests were
4. Block off the chests from the rest of the room using sand
5. Chests secured.

That bug happened on our server.

And the shared map is going ok I havent had much time to play it so all I accomplished was a mountainside shack with a bed and a bit of coal. Ill have it uploaded today or tommorow for whoever has it next.

Well that's okay I'm going to try to get a good amount done in the next week... maybe start up a cobble mine, start locating and marking some caves, and so on. Oh and make sure to put everything in your inventory into the storage chests before you log off for the last time.

Yeah, also are you guys going to be playing on peaceful or with mobs?

Also does anyone know of any mods out there that prevent creepers from spawning or die with the rest of the mobs? I'm getting really tiered of being blown up at noon.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have always played with mobs. It's taken awhile, but thanks to some street smarts (plus iron armor and a couple cooked pork chops at the ready) I can almost always escape sticky situations intact these days. So creepers don't really bother me anymore. It's still the skeletons that I dislike most.

Still, if others so desire, I can switch it to peaceful difficulty for the share map in order to ensure I preserve the integrity of what everyone else builds.

It'd probably be best to play on peaceful, I think. If only to preserve other people's work, like you said.

Dang I can't find Zan's Map add on. I look on the main thread for it , but I when I get the raw files I can't make the thing install. In the past it had an install option that was not with Rar file. :(
I am disappointed and confused.

So in my SP game, I've decided it is time to mix things up and move underground. I've just begun construction on what I hope is eventually a Moria-esque Kingdom. This inspiration struck me after I dug a 8X8 hole down to bed rock (one of my favourite ways to stock up on Cobblestone). A few blocks above bedrock, I began digging into the wall of my hole and after reading a bit of LOTR dwarven lore, I got the inspiration to move my playtime down underground.

After building a long hallway, I began crafting the room for my lava forge (lava is currently being looked for), where I could craft and smelt. Whilst digging there, I found the largest Iron deposit I have ever seen. I got (and no word of a lie) 26 blocks of iron from this one single deposit. There was also some of that blue dye, some redstone and a vein of five diamonds. I am so glad I began digging here :) This will be a prosperous kingdom indeed.
