Whilst digging there, I found the largest Iron deposit I have ever seen. I got (and no word of a lie) 26 blocks of iron from this one single deposit.

Very nice! Though more than likely it was the result of 2 to 4 deposits that just happened to be fused together, since I've never seen a single deposit with more than 12 iron, but I have seen deposits in very close juxtaposition before, where the coal led me immediately to iron and diamond.

Probably, but since it was all together I count it as one :P It was very nice indeed.

So in my SP game, I've decided it is time to mix things up and move underground. I've just begun construction on what I hope is eventually a Moria-esque Kingdom. This inspiration struck me after I dug a 8X8 hole down to bed rock (one of my favourite ways to stock up on Cobblestone). A few blocks above bedrock, I began digging into the wall of my hole and after reading a bit of LOTR dwarven lore, I got the inspiration to move my playtime down underground.

You just gave me a great idea of what to do with the mega cave I posted about earlier in this thread.

Oh and are there glitches where every time you leave an area that you've already lit up the same mob spawns?

im a bit confused.............does only one person get to use a save file at a time for building. ive seen youtube videos with multiple people buidling stuff online and even chatting. wouldnt it be easier to do it that way for consistency and also so people dont have to wait for someone else to finish.

That would be multiplayer. It's very common and there's servers everywhere. BGSF has its own server, and many of the people here take part in other servers with their friends. And it's good, though it's got some bugs.

What we're talking about with the shared map is singleplayer only. I don't tend to do multiplayer, so this is sort of a 'lite' way for me to share creations with others. Like a puzzle that everyone puts together on their own time. Yes, you have to wait, but eventually it will look every bit as good as a multiplayer map (or better, because there's a more unified process) and without some of the bugs or other annoyances that can go with multiplayer, either.

I made a good amount of progress on the map last night, and things were going well until I, when setting up a lava light, realized that you can turn entire streams of lava, no matter how vertically long, into cobble by pouring water on it. Now this was news to me as I thought we could only do this to source blocks, and, well, an hour went by and...now there's sort of a giant cobble skyscraqer in the middle of the town I was making.

If I can make it looking less hideous I'll try to convert it into a cobble mine.

make a dirt step pyramid.

place lava source on top

allow lava to cover the pyramid

scoop up lava source

replace with water

cobble farm

I'm officially going as a mercenary for hire, I don't mind doing anything as long as it doesn't break the law and pays enough. My minecraft name is Nextmastermind as I am using Nexts account.

I stumbled upon Minecraft, recently. I'm only playing that free, outdated version, but I'm finding it extremely addicting and am obsessed with creating the largest Pyramid I possibly can. By the posts in this thread, the beta version seems to be much better. I desperately want to buy it, but I don't have a credit card and my mom's paranoid about using hers on websites she's not familiar with. Are any of those cards bought at stores that come with activation codes available for Minecraft?

Nope. There's 2 routes you can go: First is to get a friend to buy it for you, since gift codes are possible. Second is a prepaid Visa/MasterCard debit card, which your mom can purchase securely and has a fixed amount on it so that fraud on unfamiliar websites is no longer a real issue.

For sure, they had to mass spawn all of the glowstone and museum rocks so I'll assume they do some mass spawning. That still doesn't change how amazing the place is.

Oh my god, guys. You have to check out the seed Ratchet. I was just typing random names, and came across this one and.. oh my god. There is like.. a pool of lava right on the surface, and the way the mountains are shaped.. its just amazing. You have to check this out.

Minecraft.net is down :\ Notch hasn't blogged about it on Tumblr but he has a Facebook account he puts things on too (which I can't see because I don't use Facebook).

Hopefully it will come back up soon!

Also, anybody else running a server using Linux? This last server update introduced a ton of new bugs that requires a server reboot almost every hour for it to be playable for me.

[...] thanks for the info Seven :)

You're welcome :)

The Council Elections are starting soon. If you wish to be a candidate, head on over to Jamies and announce your candidacy and you will be added to the ballot.

Say, is the server down at the moment? The IP is correct, but it says 'failure to connect'

If it were actually down it would say "connection refused: connect"

a "failure to connect" means that you failed to connect to the server. this error and any others along the same lines such as, "took to long to log in":

Means you are having trouble connection to the server or the server is having trouble holding on to your connection.
