God this game is so addicting.

Tell me about it. I've been playing 6 hours almost non-stop.
My castle starts look like one. There is 5-7 levels of tunnels beneath the mountain plus 4 huge towers around it. Each tower is connected to tunnel network.
Also there is large bridge connecting two of the towers.

Rebuilt my house to make each floor taller, and connected it to the bridge entrance. Now I just need to put the roof on, but it's taking forever to smelt all this glass. I'm smelting the glass during the day while I hack away at the dirt around me to separate myself from the mainland, then putting the glass parts on the roof by night.

Stupendously addictive.

So someone finally started one of these threads! I was far too lazy to do such a thing myself, and have thus been waiting :P - I have played MC for quite a duration now, having experienced the early excitement in minecraft alpha, building lava waterfalls in hell worlds. To the newer infdev, and now to SMP. I haven't read through this thread yet (and most likely will not read the previous posts), but if someone has not already said it how about a BGSF MC server? I wouldn't mind making this server, for me the problem lies with some iffy firewall settings on my router that I'm having trouble getting around. If everyone wouldn't mind going to a BGSF Minecraft specific Hamachi to connect to the server things could work quite well - although as my server has always been private I have no clue how it would handle any form of stress. It would also be offline whenever I'm not attending to my computers - if anything it could be a bit of fun for a while :P. Tell me if you're interested.

Are you able to mine resources and fight the zombies in the free version? Also, how long is the day/night cycle?

Free version is a very basic survival version, you don't do much in the way of mining, you get things as drops - basically you don't get much of the game at all for free, it's very far from the pay version.

Alright, I might plop down $13.50 for this. I haven't played for like 8 months so I wasn't sure how much it changed.

I will play some MP survival, as long as you don't mind the silly account name because I share it with my friend. :P

It's quite late right now and I've had a rather busy day so I'll update the server and look at the new options tomorrow morning, following which I'll create a hamachi and start it up. I'll give you guys the details as soon as something is ready - if it crashes/lags I'm sorry :P

I'm much like Wampbit - I'm all for hosting a server when I'm around, but if you're wanting it running all the time then you're damn well paying my electricity bill.

EDIT: Holy crap! I was digger down in my mine and open up a large cave. Mined a crap load of coal then explored further, placing torches every few blocks to show my path. As I get deeper I start to hear zombie noises so proceed slowly into the tunnel ahead of me... And a zombie attacks me from behind and damn near kills me. I have never had such a fright in my life!

EDIT 2: Heard another, so I put a cluster of torches round the resources and ran for it. All the way back up into my mine entrance, but I could still hear it so I blocked off the path with piles of dirt. Now it's dark outside, there's a zombie the other side of my dirt wall, and I have two very shaky hearts of health. I'm going to need to start gearing up with weapons and armour!

Put cobblestone walls and floors in my house, then made a underground backdoor that leads outside below the hill. I found a mine system(that takes s few minutes to get to) and I got a workbench down there. it's awesome.

It's amazing how a game that's in the alpha stage can be better and more addicting then alot of the games out today....*cough* MW2 *cough*

Tell me if anyone of you guys make a server.

Oh and what's that one block called that's similar to cobblestone? and what can it be used for?

I just spent all afternoon on the game when I told myself I wouldn't. :P

I was going to stop...but then I loaded a snow world. Snow! Of course I had to look around, and I eventually figured out ice. Well obviously I now have to make a magnificent tower of ice to assert my prowess over this cold northland. After building a basecamp of wood I picked a spot in the hillside to mine for metals, so I could make a bucket to carry water. I mined...and mined...and mined...eventually I reached adminium bedrock without nary an iron ore in sight. That was when I found the redstone. Piles and piles of redstone, illuminating the darkness when I struck it with my pick. I used what little iron I had to make a pick and mine it.

After I got back up to the surface, filled to the brim with stone, I took my new bucket and got some water. I thought it'd be easy. Just build a mould, pour a bucket of water into it, and let the result freeze.

I didn't realize it'd only freeze one block of water at a time. So I've been going back and forth with a bucket of water trying to build my ice tower.

Why don't you use the bucket to make a waterfall next to your location? Unless that's been patched out.

I can, but the only thing that freezes is the original block of water, not the other blocks that flow from it. As soon as it freezes they disappear just like the spout has been turned off. Or in this case frozen over.

It'd be easier if I had more than one bucket too I guess, but that means I'd have to go back into the dark mines and try to find more iron ore.

Ah, then what you should do is this: make a floating stone (or whatever) water trough above your ice tower mould and then detonate the bottom if you have some TNT, and then it should all drop into the mould without disappearing.

Make an infinite water spawner. Dig a 2x2 hole and place two water spring blocks diagonally, the other corners will then become recognised as source blocks which you can pick up. If I haven't explained it particularly well here is a video, skip to about 1:03 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb9OMYJs5jM

If you want iron, look for natural caverns and search the walls. I've found iron even near sea level, and natural cave systems can be huge.

Can somebody clarify how much this is in either American or Australian dollars? I can't seem to find it on the official site.

Wow, I just discovered that there is lava in this game the hard way. I managed to flood my main mine with the hot stuff after getting burnt to death. If we get a server up, we definitely need to make a lava moat.

How do I take a screentshot in Minecraft? They are usually handled with PrtScrn but... I can't find the pics....

EDIT: @Donkey

It was $12.97USD for me using a credit card on paypal.

I'm the furthest I've been so far. Way, way down in the map. Found some gold and some cool red stuff... Hitting a bunch of blocks I can't break, though - they're just scattered all over and I have to dig around them.

I haven't dug much in this game. Once I dug into mt first cave and got a nice load of iron I have stopped, and started working up top. I got me glass green house done, that grows crops 24/7. I also put up a fence around the ground I flatten an planted some trees around tourches. Bad mistake, the trees are now massive! Growing all the time and the fence brings in a lot of animals. So I decided to level out more ground and start a farm. But I got side tracked, and made a waterfall coming from my crops, then by my house making an moat/river. I'm pissed that you cant replant reed. Also what do you do with eggs?

Eggs have no purpose yet. They are in the game as a placeholder right now, or so the wiki says. http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Main_Page
